I totally forgot about the dashboard. Sometimes on the fence about claiming something that is not mine. The process of transferring back to the owner is sometimes not so obvious. Thanks for the info

RE: Access to a Clients Google Places Account
It's funny you mention that. I have my clients setup mark@example.com. I use mark to be short for marketing so it's not so obvious!

Access to a Clients Google Places Account
I would like to manage my clients Google places account so I can add pictures, fill out the profile etc. If he already has a Google places account how do I get access?
I feel a little gun-shy about asking for his personal email and password to gain access.

RE: "gimme links" = easy to fill out profile/personal reputation links that offer a do-follow anchor text flexible link
I've been experimenting with farming out my content. I'm kinda cheap so I didn't want to pay for an "official" copy writer.
1. I tried giving some content ideas to a buddy of mine who is a paralegal. He took too long to get content to me and I had to yank it back from him cause it was causing a riff in our relationship.
2. I just started experimenting with using script writers, book writers etc. out of Craigslist. So far the first one I tried seemed like she was into it. I gave her 80 bucks to start last Tuesday. Wednesday evening came around and haven't heard from her so I called and she said she has been busy and she would have it by Thursday. Here it is Friday night and nothing. So far, not working out so good. Her price was $40 buck an hour so I figured if I charged my client $100.00 per article/webpage, I could make some for myself. Plan B will be to interview the next write on the phone extensively and ask the right questions and put deadlines on copy.

SEOmoz Keyword Ranking - Does it work for local search?
I was just wondering how SEOmoz calculates keyword rankings up and down every week.
Shouldn't there be a way to have SEOmoz calculate rankings on a Local and Non-Local Basis?
For example I have "Local Dentist" as a keyword in SEOmo for my dental client. SEOmoz shows that we are not in the Top 50.
| Local dentist
| Not in Top 50 |
| Not in Top 50 |
| Not in Top 5 |If I change my location in Google browser to the zip of where the office is located, we
show up in position 14(for the home page) & 15 (for an inside page)How can I show the keyword rankings to my client if the keyword ranking report doesn't reflect searches done in my clients local area?

RE: SEOmoz Toolbar - Am I the only one who figured this out?
If I disable the moz toolbar and restart Firefox, I don't have issues. If I keep the toolbar running with multiple tabs, session browsing gets progressively slower.
I think what happens is that the toolbar has to check page rank, domain authority.. etc so when you are doing general browsing, that slows down your session. Firefox does give memory low indications sometimes but can't tell if that's because of the toolbar working away or not. Haven't run those tests.

SEOmoz Toolbar - Am I the only one who figured this out?
I have been using the SEOmoz toolbar for a while. In the course of a day, and with so many projects going on I end up having about 15-20 tabs in Firefox open at once. Because of the toolbar, my browsing session slows to a crawl and I hate to disable the toolbar because then I have to shut down the 10 projects I am working on. I usually close down my browser when I can't take it anymore and it feels like I am browsing on my 1990's palm device.
What I decided to do is install the toolbar on Google Chrome. I don't use this browser very often so now whenever I need to check out a website, I just use Chrome instead of Firefox.
Maybe there is a way to turn off the toolbar that I don't know about. Any other toolbar tips?

RE: Dental Office With Two Locations And Same Practice Name
I'll have to figure out how to do this. I was planning on using Wordpress for this. Here is the demo site I have so far. dental1.datacomplete.com. I don't think this theme can be tweaked to allow for the landing pages as you described but I will give it a shot tomorrow. Unfortunately the dentists that I am working with are going through a rebuilding process and their funds are somewhat limited so I am trying to get something up for them with cost in mind and with something that they can edit the content themselves. Thanks again!

RE: Dental Office With Two Locations And Same Practice Name
Thanks for the information.
Yes she has two locations operating under the same name and are 6 miles apart with different zip codes and different phone numbers.
I may want to try that "Chat Live Now" type of software for her practice and she may want to give different offers to different offices.
if i used something like mytoothdoctor.com for the main site and then displayed a box to choose a location would that be kinda goofy?
Then I would have mytoothdoctor.com as the main site and then torrance.mytoothdoctor.com and wilmington.mytoothdoctor.com

Dental Office With Two Locations And Same Practice Name
Dentists buy other practices all the time. Sometimes they change the name of the practice and other times they keep the name.
I am working with a dentist on a new website because their old one is riddled with flash (and is ugly too) She has two practices but they have the same practice name. One of them caters to half English speaking and half Spanish speaking patients.
I'm thinking I should create a separate website for each practice mainly because we may want to design the graphics and text for the appropriate patient language probably with a English/Spanish translation button on the website?
For localization, wouldn't it be better to have a url for each physical site?
Suggestions?

RE: Claiming SEO Services But Really Pay-Per-click
One of the dentist that I pitched said he has a dedicated front office gal that does the seo for the office two hours a day. After I showed him my SEOmoz reports including his page titles and descriptions, he said "Where do I sign!"

Claiming SEO Services But Really Pay-Per-click
I just started marketing to dentists. I spoke at a local gathering to about 6 dentists and 3 of them said they were using SEO services. I looked at their sites and absolutely no SEO of anything was performed. They were quite taken back by this. Page titles all the same, no page descriptions etc.
These dentists were paying about $800 per month and some had micro sites set up for them. It appears that this SEO company was using Google adwords to "artificially" drive traffic to the dentist or dentist micro site... and calling themselves an SEO company.
This SEO company was also using tracking phone numbers on both the primary and micro sites. Which I've read can harm local NAP issues.
I'm a bit worried that if I tell these dentists to stop using this company and go with me that the traffic will decrease while I work on real SEO. Maybe I should use adwords too until the "organic" power of SEO kicks in and they cut back until traffic stabilizes?

RE: Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
Thanks for the guidance. Time for more learning! I'll get with their web developer and see if we can make this happen. I guess the next question would be the preference of blogging software. Bloglines, Typepad. Does it really matter as long as there is good content?

RE: Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
These are all great questions.
I was using SEOmoz to look for all the backlinks that our competitors have. I noticed that an attorney out of Texas who came up #1 in Google for Divorce Attorney had a backlink at typepad and articlebase.(just to name a few) At the moment, I was thinking that we need to create articles and blogs so we could get the same backlinks they do. That's about as far as my thinking went.
On your point #1, I called the headline creating backlinks because my goal at the moment is to create more backlinks than out competitors. It just so happens that the backlinks from our competitors with the highest domain authority were typepad and articlebase.
On your point #2, Since I have never set up a blog site before, I'm kind of lost on the best approach. Sounds slick to integrate it into the law firm website. I am just looking to see what our competitors are doing who are ranked on the first page of Google and emulating what they are doing. The goal would be to do everything you said.
I have seen articles that lawyers have written 2 or 3 years ago still showing up as one of their backlinks . I want to do the same for my client.

Creating Backlinks On Behalf of Client
I'm on my first SEO project with a law firm. I'm at the stage where I am doing competitive backlink research on other law firms that my client gave me.
I saw a blog site called typepad. It has a high domain authority so I was going to recommend to my client that they set up an account and blog away!
Since it's a law firm, I am not qualified to start blogging on behalf of my client and I know they are extremely busy so now I have to "ride" my client to get busy and start creating content.
I feel like I want to do more for them on the blog side to keep things going but not having a law background, probably not doable.
Question: Do most SEO's do the blogging for their clients, farm it out or keep pushing their clients to do it?
I also want them to sign up with articlebase but the same thing is going to happen. I have to push them to write articles. I guess this is my job?

RE: I have signed up for an seomoz trial .......
You should be able to log in from any computer.
1. I know this seem obvious but I have created accounts late at night and forgot the password by the next day. Have you tried to log back in to the laptop you used to create the account? Can you get in? If not, reset your password.
2. I have had issues logging into other sites with different browsers. I use both IE, Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari because I do web development and need to see how each site looks in a different browser. Make sure you clear your cache and cookies on the browser that you are currently using.
3. If possible, try to use a different browser on the computer that won't let you in. Firefox only takes a few minutes to download and install.
Hope this helps.

RE: Law Practice SEO with Multiple Lawyers
Thanks for the info Robert. Just finished a night of uploading videos for my client to their new YouTube channel I just setup. Spent a bunch of hours scouring a ton of websites making sure I optimized the videos... doing my due diligence.
I really appreciate your help. This is my first big client and what is good about it is that they need absolutely everything. Having to learn about setting up all the social media, web content and.. well you know... There is a ton of stuff to learn and I love it! I think that this is one profession that will never get old!

Law Practice SEO with Multiple Lawyers
I am working with a friend of mine who is a lawyer. He has one partner and a couple of other lawyers at the firm. The attorneys each have their own Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin ,Youtube and other social media accounts. I am trying to create one brand, which is the name of the law firm.
Question 1:
It would make sense to me to create all social media accounts under the law firm name. Would you agree on this? I'm worried that users wouldn't use the company facebook page if they are used to communicating to the attorney through their personal accounts.
Maybe I should put the social media links for the firm on the home page only and then put the individual social media links next to the attorney profile page?
Question 2:
The firm has been posting Youtube videos but under one of the attorney's names. I have 16 new videos they want posted and they asked me if they should be posted to a new company name channel (yet to be created) or post them under one of the attorneys accounts?
I think that most attorneys might look out for themselves ahead of the Firm. If they ever change jobs, they don't have a built up social profile if everything is listed under the firm name.
Maybe the way to go would be to help optimize both the attorneys personal profiles and then the firm?
Thoughts?

How to find all banklinks for a URL that forwards to a main URL
I have a client (yea! my second one doing seo) who has a law firm. He has a main site and then another site that just forwarded to his main website.
He wants to find all the directories (and other places on the web) where his second site is listed. At the time when he was adding his firm into the directories, he was using his secondary url but now he wants to go back and use his main website.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have a log of every place he added himself.
I tried just searching Google for "mysecondarywebsite.com" (in quotes)for example but the SERPS return listings that aren't right.
Suggestions?
