Google vs. Google+ Local Rankings - How do they relate
I am using ranking reports from BrightLocal. Brightlocal gives you ranking reports that check your ranking by keywords like this: Google Google+Local Yahoo Yahoo Local Bing Bing Local So apparently, there are multiple ways to rank in Google 1. Go to Google.com and type something in. 2. Go to this url https://plus.google.com/local and type something in 3. Go to maps.google.com For regular Google search. my client isn't in the top 50 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" For Google+Local, client is #7 for keyword search "dentist Oxnard CA" Do people even use Google+Local Search? My question was how is it possible to not be in the top 50 for Google search for "dentist Oxnard CA" but be #7 for Google+Local search?

Vender Hijacked our 7 Pack Listing
The Stonebridge Dental Plus Page that ZD created is here: https://plus.google.com/104280204877579676759/about?gl=US&hl=en-US Notice that it is not a verified listing The Plus Page I claimed on behalf of the client which is verified is here (which I can log in to): https://plus.google.com/b/115007218006913673410/115007218006913673410/about Looks like ZD purchased a domain which then forwards to the ZD doctor page and then created a new Google Plus profile with my clients address and phone. I might have to ask them for their contract with ZD and see if there is something in there I'm missing.

Yea, that's it! A bit pricey. Thanks for the "software review". Maybe I'll sit this one out.

Page Titles For Local - Help on URL Structure
Ok, thanks, I appreciate the suggestion. I have 17 dental websites I want to change and I would rather not do this exercise twice through all of them! I'll try this on 5-10 pages of the 35 pages I have and see what happens.

Google+ Is this listing Claimed or Not?
Hi Bob, I honestly think you will be best off posting the full scenario in the Google And Your Business Forum in case any bugs are involved. In the meantime, here are some resources that might help: http://localsearchforum.catalystemarketing.com/google-places-important-updates/168-how-detect-verified-status-google-local-pages.html http://marketing-blog.catalystemarketing.com/missing-google-places-google-local-images.html http://www.localsplash.com/local-seo-2/how-to-determine-whether-a-google-local-page-has-been-claimed-and-verified.html http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/business/FcPdPDzbMbk/xJWAFVeRJrkJ The Local Search Forum article is especially good, but I've included the others in case they have some info in them you haven't seen before.

Name Address Phone NAP For Dentists
Woo hoo! You guys are on the ball. The two articles referenced here by Fidelityim and Gyi are exactly what I would have pointed to. I would also highly recommend that you follow Linda Buquet on this issue of medical practices with multiple practitioners. Check this out: http://marketing-blog.catalystemarketing.com/google-places-duplicate-listing-dentists-doctors.html Nobody knows the ins and outs of Local SEO in the dental industry better than Linda, in my opinion. Hope this helps!

Dentist office website has foreign country backlinks. Scrap it or Move On
I agree with Joseph and Robert, in saying that the title of your company sounds a bit spammy to begin with. Maybe it's best if you use something along the lines of "ChicagoDentist.com" or even "ChicagoCosmeticDentistry.com" these allow you to use a keyword and sound more relavent to your audience. I would also suggest starting fresh and making an update to work on "local signals" such as Merchant Circle, Google Local, LocalEze. These signals will help the page crawl up in local search and also allow other customers to review the company, which we all know in this day and age is a good thing. As others have mentioned you do have the option of using a disavoy tool, but only Bing has such a tool right now and Bing only accounts for 38% of the search market, so you're going to be missing out on the other 70% and there's no way telling when Google will come out with such a tool.

Access to a Clients Google Places Account
I agree with Mr. Wignall's and Ms. Ellis' responses--tell them to change the password temporarily for you, then change it back afterwards. I always tell clients that it's partly for MY protection, i.e. if they have someone else at their company who knows their login (or their login is hacked), I want a 0% chance that they think I might be the problem. Also, you do NOT want to claim it under your own account: you would be artificially giving Google information that that account and other clients of yours might be co-owned, or co-managed (so, are any links between them really editorial?), and more importantly Google local search has more confidence in the listing being claimed by the real owner if the domain name of the email address claiming it = the domain name of the website (see this thread as well)

SEOmoz Keyword Ranking - Does it work for local search?
Hey Bob, bjomer13 pretty much nailed it but let me provide some more clarification. We do need a "Geo Identifier" or specific location in order to provide local results. This is because we are unable to determine where a user will be submitting there search from. For example, I'm in Seattle and if I search for the keyword "pizza" and someone in New York performs that very same search we will both get very different Google Places results. This is because Google is capable of determining the general location that the person is searching from based on their IP address. If we were both perform a search for "Seattle Pizza" though we would get pretty much the same Google Places results for pizza places in the Seattle area. These results will be quite similar to the results I would get if I just searched for "pizza" because Google knows that I am in Seattle. For rankings you will be provided with a number that the keyword ranks for if it is in the top 50 organic search results and you will have an icon if universal (Google Places) results appear in the SERP for that keyword. If your site is in the local results then you will have tick marks on top of the universal results icon indicating you are indeed in those results. To learn more about rankings check out our help documentation here: http://www.seomoz.org/help/rankings Hope that helps! Kenny

Dental Office With Two Locations And Same Practice Name
Hi Bob, I'm getting a 'server not found' page when I tried to access your demo site. I guess I don't know what theme you're using, but I would imagine you can create whatever kind of pages or you'd need to. If you're using something like the All-in-One SEO-Pack and permalinks, you could even make the 2 city landing pages as blog posts and just link to them from the main menu. But, I don't know what challenges you are facing with your theme, obviously. Hope you can figure it out. I know it's sometimes tough when clients are on a tight budget. You've just got to let them know what you can do for their investment. The nice thing about websites is that they can always grow as budget becomes available. Good luck!

Claiming SEO Services But Really Pay-Per-click
I agree with Kane. While the other service provider isn't be forthright, they could still be delivering results to these dentists. Question is, are they showing it with phone calls and etc? Generally it'd be nice if ALL internet marketing providers were transparent, but it's wishful thinking. But I'll also add that any smart dentists takes advantage of both SEO and PPC to drive traffic and new leads. While I focus PPC services I encourage my clients (some dentists) to also engage in SEO services because they are complementary. A recent study from Google Research shows that even with high organic rankings, paid ads will add incremental traffic.

How to find all banklinks for a URL that forwards to a main URL
Heyo, I'd start with OSE and export the data compare it to GWT "Your Site on the Web" tab (specifically the Internal Links as well as the Links to your Site). Then take a trip down to good old: http://www.backlinks.in/ This is a great way to analyze Second Tier Links if the first site contains links with the secondary URL. Also consider analyze the anchor text with this process. Will probably take a bit of elbow grease, but this is a good start. Good Luck and good on ya! Shameless Plug: follow me @derZukunft on the Tweeter. Cheers, Brian
