Hi
I am baffled our competitor is position 1 on google and another spam site is position 2 for this position 4. Both site hit every no no for Google.
For example our site no duplicate content and no duplicate pages. However our competitor 21% of all content is duplicated and 51% of the title tags are duplicated.
I am seeing this more and more and I am wondering has google screwed up as it seems to be that if you bend the rules you get to the top of google.
Hi
I am looking at GWT more and more and I starting not to believe the information within it. For example we had a link on XYZ.com say 6 months ago. This link as been removed no reference to our website, however it still showing on GWT inbound links. I have noticed quite a few sites which have no relevance to our site.
Is anyone else finding the information wrong in WMT
We often find it takes 2-6 weeks to bounce back after a redesign.
I think Google is right to do this but for many businesses the cost to convert sites and possibly redesigns will mean it will take years for people to catch up. I just hope that Google don't start penalising sites straight away.
If you've got a genuine blog mentioning your website is it wise to accept a trackback to the site. The site is wordpress?
Thanks Tom
Thats really helped my understanding! I have worked out what to do ;o)
Just got to find out to manage that through wordpress as these are pagination displaying the posts.
I have been looking a GWT HTML improvements on our new site and I am scratching my head on how to stop some elements of the website showing up as duplicates for Meta Descriptions and Titles.
For example the blog area:
<a id="zip_0-anchor" class="zippedsection_title"></a>
This blog is full of information and resources for you to implement; get more traffic, more leads an
/blog/
/blog/page/2/
/blog/page/3/
/blog/page/4/
/blog/page/6/
/blog/page/9/The page has rel canonicals on them (using Yoast Wordpress SEO) and I can't see away of stopping the duplicate content. Can anyone suggest how to combat this? or is there nothing to worry about?
Hi
We've just updated our website and have binned out alot of old thin content which has no value even if re written. We have a lot of 404 error on WMT and I am in the process of doing 301 redirects on them. Is there a limit to the number of 301 the site should have?

SSL adds trust to the user, Google has also hinted that they're more likely to rank you higher. GEOTrust is scanning for Malware its an experiment to see if this gives more trust to the user and also if it slows down the site, no evidence in trust, but site speed no effect. SSL has improved rankings on all keywords within weeks of installing.
bounce rate at the moment is high as our site design isn't user friendly and the content is a little dated. In fact the design is 2.5 years old. Oue new design will be ready in a few days and new content. I would say below 40% is ok. Ideally we would like around 20%
We found when we did a disavow that it took ages to get the links removed from many years ago, but what we found is that it gave a big red flag to Google and we got hit hard both SERPs and traffic.
Took ages to come back from it. I would only recommend doing a disavow if Google sends an un natural link message via Google Webmasters Tools.
I don't think you can get a tool that accurate, as the user will determine how good the content really is. I think the moz scores a good indication.
How would you measure it? You could have a criteria to measure against i.e
I think if I am not mistaken this is what the PA is based on. Be interesting what a Moz staff member can say on this?
I would always expect a drop in traffic for about 2-3 weeks while things settle on google and with existing users and then it should ramp up after that.
Hi
I have swaped from HTTP to HTTPS and put a redirect on for HTTP to redirect to HTTPS. I also put www.xyz.co.uk/index.html to redirect to www.xyz.co.uk
When I fetch as Google it shows up redirect!
Does this mean that I have too many 301 looping?
Do I need the redirect on index.html to root domain if I have a rel conanical in place for index.html
htaccess (Linix) -
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^xyz.co.uk
RewriteRule (.*) https://www.xyz.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^$ index.html [R=301,L]
Yes in my view, if you also put reviews and customer experiences on these pages that should water down the chances of been duplicate content. Also pet rel canonical on the pages. I am pretty sure also Google realises that for some industry types a spade is a spade and millions of website will sell it. Its the ones which make standout with something different will make you rank better.
With the 404 errors can't the system archive the pages with the products which sell I am assuming that 1 page = 1 car or Car Product? or the system create a 301 redirect automatically the product goes? Auto sitemaps generation would also tell Google which pages your site has.
I hope this helps
Focus groups... Find out what users want then design and build round this. Google only herps on about UX simply if your website is designed and thought out correctly users will share and stay and keep coming back to the website.
I thought Matt Cutts said that Google recognises that tabbed content could be hidden and its not a factor to be hit with any penalty as long as its not stuffed with rubbish. This is going off my memory and could be wrong ;o)
Yes what you said should do it
I would combine them back into 1 website as it would really hack me off having to log into both to update.
The website I would image would be www.xyz.com and the blog would be www.xyz.com/blog. You could park the other domain if you have to and redirect it to www.xyz.com/blog
