I think this it's based on a daily queue, but that's probably something a moderator might be able to answer.

RE: Code problem and the impact on links
Were you building inbound links to those pages?
If it was only down for a few days, it's likely that you won't lose any of the inbound links. If the links are still down you should probably create 301 redirects so that visitors don't hit a 404 page.
If there weren't any inbound links to those pages then you should be okay link-wise.

RE: Cost affective way to automate linkbuilding?
I agree with Anthony, the links you can get through automated processes will provide minimal value.
Automation and Link Building shouldn't be combined.

RE: 301 category page to Homepage to increase authority
I think doing that might eliminate the relevant content under the "occupational health" category.
Adding occupational health content to the homepage may not be that bad of an idea, and you might consider building out a series of subcategories or deeper pages based on the "occupational health" theme.

RE: How Is The Quality Of Backlinks Assessed In Open Site Explorere?
Open Site Explorer should display the Page Authority and Domain Authority scores for the inbound links listed. Those scores are out of 100, and the higher they are the better. A quality link could have either a comparatively high Page Authority, Domain Authority, or Both.

RE: Why is this page ranking highest?
Please clarify this statement - "One thing I do notice is that it does have 100,000s of linking root domains from one linking root domain." Does the page have 100,000s of inbound links from a single domain, or 100,000's of linking domains to their root domain?
Without any specific information about the search term you're looking at, it's hard to guess. I suggest you check the rankings again, this time use a separate browser, sign out of your google account, and add a "&pws=0" to the end of the search results page URL.

RE: Best Keyword Ranking Report Tool
The SEO Toolset from Bruce Clay is $29.95/mo and it includes an on-demand ranking checker - http://www.bruceclay.com/seo/tools.htm
I'm not sure about the PDF export, but it definitely does Excel.

RE: Page titles and descriptions
In that case, I would probably focus my efforts on a parent page. The keywords you are probably targeting won't have a lot of competition, and a high ranking top level landing page will also contribute to the rankings of lower level pages.
In addition, the concept of "Evergreen" comes to mind. When you cycle through model numbers or inventory, you would lose the value you've built into the lower level pages. If, instead, you focus on your top level "Evergreen" pages, you can update those pages without losing rankings.

RE: Page titles and descriptions
As long as they are actually different widgets, I think that would be fine. If you had 10 pages for widget 1 using different URL's, then I would start to rethink your strategy.

RE: Keyword Finder
Hello,
You could try using the Google keyword suggestion tool (https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/Explorer)
That would provide suggestions of keywords by;
- Analyzing a list of keywords, then suggesting relevant alternatives
- Scanning a website (yours or a competitors) and parsing relevant keywords

RE: Restaurant menu SEO: PDF or HTML?
Lol, I was thinking about this exact article when I read the title.

RE: Trailing slash on URLs
What version of wordpress are you running? I just tested on v3.1 and it redirected the URL's, no 404's

RE: Trailing slash on URLs
I haven't heard anything substantial about which method is best, do you have some content you used as a reference for this?
The change in structure will result in a redirect on the old versions (just tested it on one of my sites), I think google will see this as a 301 redirect.

RE: Navigation for search
And that should be okay if they see the content is the same between your normal version and the spider version, just a difference in presentation. It becomes a problem when you start serving drastically different content.

RE: Regarding 301 Redirect!
Doing this could help you in the short-run, but the old domains will lose all their links eventually, so I wouldn't count on it as a long-term strategy.

RE: Multiple sites linking back with pornographic anchor text
I've heard of black-hats linking to competitors using adult websites and terms to catch their competitors in the safe search filters. I'm not sure that's what is happening here, but I'd keep an eye on it.
Have you seen any drop in organic since you started noticing these links?

RE: Reciprocal Link URL Question
I think that's what probably happened. They kept the link up until it got verified, then they dropped it. Most of the link directories don't do any follow-up after the initial approval.

RE: Value in a Bottom Navigation Bar
It's good for user experience, but then you're diluting the link juice passed between pages.
If you've ever heard of link sculpting, the concept is that less links on a page pass more value per link, and eventually help you rank higher for your target phrases.
We have a fairly healthy footer, but it's housed within an iFrame so that search engine bots just skip over the content. That's brought our links per page down to around 35, while keeping the content accessible.

RE: Navigation for search
Depending on how much you're changing, I think it could be considered cloaking and end up getting you in trouble. You'll get looked at any time you're sniffing for bots and serving up different content. Are there other ways you could make the navigation index-able?

RE: SEO Considerations for a Platform Change
I'd say to start with an excel spreadsheet and then copy them all over in one big batch. You're probably going to need some coffee.
At the very least, you should keep the redirects there for 6 months. If you drop the 301's then you also lose the inbound links, so it's best to keep them there as long as possible.
