Matt cutss has stated that load speed has to be pretty bad before it is an issue and then it is only a small signal. Less than 15 of sites send that signal. So I doubt that was the problem, it could be that that ip has some bad rep, hosting some shoddy websites on same ip.
But my number one guess is that somthing was fixed in the transfere to the new servers. I know you have stated thats not the case, but it may be something you are not aware of.

RE: Including spatial location in URL structure. Does subfolder number and keyword order actually matter?
I seem to remeber Matt saying that it should not be too long, True its how many clicks from the home page, not how many folders deep. but the folder structure can not be endless.
As for order, I suggest it does matter, it does in every other on page piece of realeaste, having SEO Australia will rank you higher for SEO Australia then it would for Australia SEO.Dont take every thing Matt Cutts says as the best advice for you, What he says is the best for google not SEO's. Sometimes you need to read between the lines, the second video is a good example, where he does not really say No, he states the question, does it have a Significant impact, he never claims it does not have an impact, and then adds he line about spending your time creating great content. I would take rtghe answer to that as a Yes it has an impact.
i dont think I have every heard matt say, Yes that works you do that and you will get good rankings. , the best you will get is an answer like the second video. He will advise you not to do things but rarly advise of a good idea to beat the search engines. -
RE: My customer has about 50 domain names they own, what can I suggest they do with them to increase SEO?
Good answer.
The only time I would do anything with an extra domain name is for testing, and if you have a exact match domain, then maybe it may be worth using as a landing domain.

RE: Removal of "bad" incoming links
I would not try to remove the bottom level as any sites with lots of links should have
some bad ones. I would be more concerned with unnatural linking patterns, if
you have 90% of your links coming from blog comments, then I think you may have
a problem, but from the sounds of it I would not worry at all. Unless they are
porn sites or the like, even then you would have to have a high level to raise
a flag. I think you may end up doing yourself more damage than good. -
RE: A global brand with localised microsites - distinct TLDs or directories by territory?
Hi urban fox, i think we talked about a simular topic a while ago. I have got a bit more info lately from Matt Cutts.
If you have domains hosted in different countries, lets say .au and .uk with duplicate content, that is not a problem, but the sub directories with duplicate content is.
He did mentiion that you should have your dollar and pound sybols as well as date formats and teh like correct for each tld.

How changing my domain name brought back rankings.
First I would not recommend doing this to anyone else, but my circumstances were extreme.
Let me explain to those that did not read previous posts on the subject. I had a domain thatsit.net.au, I had never really promoted it as I used a keyword domain to rank in search engines but kept this domain mainly for email, but having said that it did rank ok considering, it ranked first for my business name at least.
A few moths back I decided to promote it and check the rankings, I was surprised to see that it ranked last for almost every thing,. Even my business name. Let me impress when I say last I mean in most cases absolute last and if not last very, very close to last.
I decided to get some links happening to move it of bottom, in my experiences a site that ranks that bad even a few links with show a big jump in rankings, it is easier to get from page 1000 to page 900 than it is to get from page 2 to page 1. The site had about 200 links and I pushed that up to about 1,000 but I was still at the bottom even for long tails searches where I was the only exact match on the internet.
asking for advice I got responses like you need better links and the such, this did not account for the sudden drop in rankings, as I knew the history I knew that thee was something deeper going on, I asked Google for reconsideration they said there was no manual action taken.
I should also mention I ranked very well in Bing all this time and still do.
By now I was getting paranoid that someone was stuffing me up somehow as a last resort I changed the domain name from thatsit.net.au to thatsit.com.au I did this about 10 days ago.
Today I searched for my company name and I came up #4 not bad from not being in the top 1,000 a few days ago.
Rankings are not where they used to be but I can handle that, I have 301’ed across all my links and have stated to change over the links I control, but as I still don’t know why the other domain would not move from the bottom as search results I am nervous that I may 301 over the problem.
I have never really done anything in the way of Black Hat SEO that would get me banned, maybe a bit of light grey over the years but nothing to worry about.
Anyhow I am non the wiser as to why things happened like they did. But I did want to report back to others that read the posts and thought that maybe I was imaging things.
I was never really depended on the domain ranking, what really bothers me is not knowing why the .net.au domain fell from rankiings and I still don’t know why. -
RE: Other Websites Crawling my Site using WordPress/3.1 bot?
Report them to google as a spam site
-
RE: Redirect or not to redirect
in a year of 2, will you then decide to make the change? only you know that, it is better to do it sooner than later if you think you may.
As for leaking link juice, the best guess is 15% going from the original algo google published, every hop lost 15% I dont think they would of changes this much as changing it can mean huge amounts if calulating, I believe they got it right then and it would still be right.
If hops did not lose pr, the caculations of PR would be endless.

RE: Has anyone yet seen any Search or User benefits from implementing any Schema tags (as in Schema.org) ? Thanks
Yes i believe I have, i can not prove it, but from my observations it has.
Useing the google rich snippits tool shows that they do read then as expected. and logic would tell you that they will work.
Having a image of a product and teh name , description on a page does not tell a search engine that you are descruibing a product, but useing the tool, you can see it reads microdata well, i am sure they would rather present a complete product object to a user then a mere reference to one.

RE: Other Websites Crawling my Site using WordPress/3.1 bot?
Well if they obay robots you cn try
disallow WordPress
Other than that use a canonical tag in all pages, so that when the scapper uses the pages they point back to you. Even if he notices, you have caused him to do a bit extra work.

RE: Any idea why my bounce rate could be so high?
Well I guess that is good news, since tools is a keyword that was never going to convert anyhow.
Your heeading and side looks fine, nice and clean professional looking, but as i said below the actual main content looks a bit hard sell. But having said that 40% for your top keywords conflicks with the spammy idea.
as for radical marketing, well i can see that getting some wierd sorts of clicks, It may be you have nothing to worry about
-
RE: Any idea why my bounce rate could be so high?
i have to agree, its not spammy in content, just seems to look like spammy sites from memory.
its in the main content area, cant put my finger on any one reason why, but maybe play with some fonts of stuf, tone it down a bit. It was my first impression also.

RE: Canonical URL
It is just telling you that you have canonical tag. It is good to know as a cononical tag that is wrong can do harm. so just knowing that a page has one, can alert a webmaster.
Assume you see a canonical tag in a page that you dont remeber puting one, you look and it is pointing at a different page, you then relize you had meant to put in in another page but had put it in the wrong page. if you were not alerted it could of stayed for years doing lots of damage.
Image you find that all pages have a cannonical, you find that you had put a canonical tag in the master page and now only one page is in the index, seeing this in the notices can alert you to this early
Thats why it is a notice noty a error or warning.

RE: Any idea why my bounce rate could be so high?
What keywords are getting the high bounce rate?
Looking at your home page, its the sort of site after reading, you are either intrested or your not, unlike selling products where people may have a look at a few different pictures or products before making up their minds. I guess that does not explain a 90+ rate though
Has it always been so high, or is this a new thing?

RE: Soliciting articles and allowing author links?
Yes, you want lose too much, i think the gain will out weigh the loss.
since we are talking about internal linking, here is a doco i think every one should read.

its a bit old, but the guts is still true.

RE: Subdomains & SEO
i certianly have, i am woking on a job right now, where we have done just what you are contemplating, and they are ranking 2 on bing and 5 on google for chosen keyword phrase, that is only partial match to subdomain. it definatly has an affect.

RE: Can you get in trouble/get results by sub-dividing one physical address into suites for local search?
i should also add, i was putting location in the title of the google places, worked well, but now they review them much more closly. i get supspened along with all my clients that i control. not just those that I did the trickk with. It took about 6 weeks to get back on.

RE: MOZ Crawler only crawling one page per campaign
can we see urls, there may be a techniocal reason

RE: Subdomains & SEO
I dont think so, domian and subdomain out rank path.
i would make that choice on the amount of content i had, if i only had one page i would not go for a subdomain.
