I'm not sure they dont matter, i would think that .pdf, .doc and. xps for example would be less usefull than a htm, asp, aspx.
but David is correct, you are better of not haveing a file name.

I develop using Microsoft Asp.MVC, there are no file names in MVC
i believe seomoz is also written in MVC, cant remeber what tipped me off to that maybe some one from SEOMoz can confirm

MVC also leaves very clean code, no postbacks or viewstate to clog up the code

If you no-follow the link Juice will be wasted, why nort pass the LJ to the page, then pass it on elsewhere, better then alowing it to evaperate.

Only use no follow when you thin the site may be damaging to link to.

I am still a bit concerned when it comes to geting links, will others think twice before linking to a site with such a name?

I think your correct, it is rare that it will actualy help

i like to use relative urls for portability, I think this advatage outweights any slight chance i get scaped, have my links left in, not no-followed and being a link worthwhile

I have a customer that wants to use the domain name cooksarse.com, what my concern is that the word arse may cause him problems with search engines, even get flaged as Adult content, or family filters.

The site is a fun social site and nothing about it you couyld not talk about in church except the name of the site and domain. "cooks arse"

I have heard that a low PR page on a high PR site will gain PR quicly when linked to, and since only the first link is going to point to your site and you have 2 links to play with, why not.

How many clicks from the home page are these links. even though the homepage of a site has high PR, it does not mean all pages in the site do also. If the site is more than a few clciks from the home page it is likly they are low PR and less likly to get indexed.
It is believed by many that a low PR page on a hight PR site will climb fast in Pr if you liink to it, but then you may as well as link to your own site,

How do the rank relative to each other, is the home pahe ranking well?

if you use one, you will rank for all, but you will rank best for the one you include.

I have found tha they dont always match also, it could be that your site did not rank on the day that rogerbot crawled it.
try linkscape and see where you are in the list

Yes it does, before no-indexing the page with meta tag, you should put a rel anoical to the right page, as I find the duplicate can hang arounbd in the index for some time. I would let it be crawled again so that the canonical tag can be found before you remove it

I agree, trying to target many locals may stuff you up.

not a direct answer to your question, but try using the Competitive Link Finder. if finds links that more then one of your competitors have, these are more likely opportunities for a link
