The 404's are from pages that used to be linked in your old site correct?, if so I suggest that google is still looking for them. Unless you changed your domain name this would be the reason

RE: Will redirecting 250 linking domains to a new website from an old website freak Google out?
While we are on this question, what about moving links from one site to another that is not a new site.
I have done just that recently, where I changed my sig on microsoft groups, causing hundreds of fourm post to now point to anouther site, plus many other pages i had the ability to change. But still have the old site up, i wonder how they see that? the same of not?

RE: Should the link building be done with forward slash after my .com?
I agree, bing annd Google would be quite a aware of this, it should not be a problem
-
RE: Status Code 404: But why?
From you own web page i would asume.
i would suuggest that even that they are not in index, google is till trying, and that WMT is a bit behind. i have simular for links that i took down moths ago.

RE: Domain.com and www.domain.com
I agree with Gianluca, but i would also add,
301 to www.domain.com or domain.com, but not to index.php
also do not 301 twice. 301 directly to the last final destination
-
RE: How is my competition causing bad crawl errors and links on my site
I would look in Bing WMT to see where the links are comming from for a start.
i must say also, If you dont know how they are doing it, then maybe you dont know if they are doing it., it may be somthing quite inocent.

RE: Status Code 404: But why?
If they were in a SE index, they will try them for some time before removing from index., i would not worry

Rankings Last, google says no flags
I have a site thatsit.net.au I have never really promoted, but it used to
rank ok, the other day I decided I should spend some time on it as its my own
site and potential customers expect to see my own site rank well. I did a bit
of checking and in Bing I come up in first 4 for Web Development Perth, that is in
the .au TLD for Australia,
but in Google I am like 700+.If I take this line out of my home page and put it in quotes “a local Perth web development company” I see I am the only person in the world to have
this long tail query in both Bing and Google. If I search for the same without
quotes in Bing I come up first. If I do so in Google, I come up absolutely last.
I thought I must be flagged, but Google have replied that there is no manual
action taken on my site.I have no answer for this, It is hard to believe if I am the only person in
the world to have a long tail term that I would come last for it.Any ideas? I hope Matt Cutts reads this, and can come up with an explanation
besides write good and useful content. -
RE: Should I use the main keyword in the title tag for the site on all category pages?
Yes and no.
when you link from a page about Jewelry to another page about Jewelry, you are tell the SE that the target page is the importatnt page. if you have Jewelry in the link text you are doing the same. so if you have other pages about Jewelry and you link them to your home page with the link text stating Jewelry you will rasie the home page. so having said that you should not link away from your home page using Jewelry in the link text to anouther page about Jewelry.
you should link from your home page to your sub categories with subcategory in the link text, and you should linke back to the home page also.
Just think like you ae searching for Jewelry, you see a door with Jewelry painted on it, you open the door and there is a room with some Jewelry in it, but there is another door with Jewelry painted on it, in that room it is full of Jewelry.
the search engine would see the second room more important and the first room as the path to the Jewelry

RE: Should I use the main keyword in the title tag for the site on all category pages?
It would help you get your main keyword higher, but only a bit, you are better going for a keyword per page.

Whats with these links
I have a competitor
that has shot up lately taking number one spot for various keywords when I look
at his links in Open Site Explorer I find many links that are links to downloadable
objects, not web pages.A few
examples, if you click on them, do not open who knows what they are. But what
the story, how are these links to his site, anyone know anything about this. Thanks

RE: Too many 301s?
I would see if they had links, and get rid of the rest, it may look to Bing that you are trying to be tricky. Its not natural

RE: Google places rejected
I fixed all problems and requested to be re-activated, and it told me it will take several weeks.
Thing is, because a few listing had problems all my clients have lost their listings for several weeks

RE: Google places rejected

RE: Google places rejected
Sorry went off into a bit of a rant, I guess i wanted to know if others have expirenced this, and if they solved the problem.
This has happended only recently, and it has happened to many of my listings.
some opf them did not fit guidlines, but others do, one in perticular i can not find anything wrong. As i stated, it does say that a change of busines name need re-verification, but it does not allow me to do so.

Google places rejected
google has rejected a few listing i have for certain businesses, i have read the guidlines and I am well inside them.
It does say that if business name is changed you need to re-verify, but does not allow you to do so.
I think google have lost their way, they should stop building operating systems and electric cars and get their web site sorted out.

RE: Forum doesnt rank
are the pages in the index?
what sort of code does your forum produse? -
RE: Percentage of duplicate content allowable
I dont believe you have aproblem if you havea bit of duplicate content, google does not penilize you for duplicate content, it just dosent award you points for it.
