  • We actually have 2 nearly identical ecommerce websites, with identical product descriptions, and prior to us doing a cross-domain canonical, we would frequently have both sites ranking in the top 20 for a keyword. The cross domain canonical really helped - massive rankings increase.

  • Howdy! It looks to me as though this may just be a hiccup within the MozBar plug-in; notice that the bar for DmT is partially filled, but there is no value displayed. So, I'd recommend clearing your cache and cookies, and potentially checking the value in MozBar for Chrome. Checking the value in Open Site Explorer's 'Compare Link Metric' section would also be a good way to see if the value does indeed exist :). If none of those seem to resolve the issue that you're seeing, then I would recommend writing in to us at help@moz.com with some more specific examples.

  • Thanks for your suggestions! Our blog content is more informational than anything. I think we are pretty solid as far as kw selections for each of our services. Digging deeper into the analytics is a good suggestions so we can understand where people are falling from the funnel. The truth is that we have some GA implementation issues lately so hopefully asap we will have access to this kind of data. Our site is entirely mobile friendly My coworker is a CRO specialist and is working on user testing but essentially focusing on testing the service scheduler. Are you suggesting that we need to also use A/B testing for service pages and blog as well? Also do you know any tools or any methods to find "buzz" topics around carpet cleaning industry besides kw research, link analysis...?

  • Agreed. We have always found the best way to get more reviews is to tactfully ask for them via social or other channels and have not seen a correlation between advertising on the platforms and reviews.

  • If you are the author, and want to start building a reputation as an authority on this topic, adding authorship markup can be a way to do that. You probably won't see much "SEO benefit" in terms of increased rankings, traffic or snippets in the current Google algorithm, but I think Matt has a good point in that it has the potential to be used as a signal again in the future.

  • I am chiming in a year late but there is just one thing I am not sure I understand. Why would you want to index images on no-index pages? What are these pages that you want to be no-indexed in the first place? If you do not want these pages to be found when searching in Google, why would you want some of the content, like images, be found instead? I am with Michael and recommend that you fix the sitemap. I am also curious to know what has happened in the past year. Have your issues resolved? Have your SEO improved?

  • I believe most of Aleyda Solis' epic international SEO checklist is still valid. You'll also want to check a couple of updated & interesting articles here and here. If you do end up using hreflang tags you can test them with the Flang tool. This ensures the tags you've setup are done correctly. With hreflang you won't need alt languages but hreflang handles both language & location (region specific). So en-au and en-us are same language, different countries. Take a look through the documentation for it and see if you have further questions.

  • Agreed, they are mini sitelinks. Official Google release here. Most importantly, as Dr Pete pointed out, "Just like regular sitelinks, one-line sitelinks are generated algorithmically and the decisions on when to show them and which links to display are entirely based on the expected benefit to users."

  • Thanks for the response. I prefer the consistency as well but keep hitting walls. 1. I am using Wordpress HTTPS. I think it redirects all http to https. So a sitemap generator only sees the http. My sitemap is correct besides that. 2. I do not believe I have a redirect file setup, just the http to https plugin mentioned above. 3. Robots.txt and meta tags are all good.

  • Yeah, Kate's right. I don't think you can go wrong, and unless you have redirects that disagree with your preferred version, go with the non-www. If you're using standard www and non-www redirects use the one that shows up in the search bar for the site or area of the site that you're submitting. We have a site in Google News that is www. and the news is non-www. For no reason, but we haven't bothered fixing it. We were included on the non-www. So it's possible and likely that both would work fine, but I know for sure that the one that shows up in the URL of your feed works best.

  • Hi there I recommend taking a look at Rand's Subdomains vs. Subfolders, Rel Canonical vs. 301, and How to Structure Links for SEO - Whiteboard Friday. It's a great resource on this subject! Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Hi Joel. It looks like James has answered your question pretty well, I'd only add that you'll want to make sure you're logged in to the corresponding Facebook and Google + accounts for the location that you're trying to set up in Moz Local. So if you're trying to do all five at the same time, you'd have five browsers running with five separate logins while also logged into Moz Local. That way when you get to the Facebook or Google verification link it will do so properly. Cheers!

  • your redirects has to be in your server if not it'd be hard to manage that by yourself. What you ahve to be sure is how those redirects have been done. If they're on a dedicated HTACCESS, then it would be fine as, like you said, you'll ba mainitainig hte exact same  URL structure, but if they're maintained by a WP plulgin or JS, be sure to not ovverwrite it, or if you want to get rid of it, export your rules and rewrite them on your htaccess.

  • Hi Bob, You seem to know what you're talking about and have some pretty decent rankings. I think you need to start with conducting a comprehensive competitor analysis looking at both on-site factors and off-site factors (ie, backlinks). This will help you to identify opportunities where you can really get the edge on your competitors. Aleyda Solis did a great infographic and post about this very topic which I highly recommend - https://moz.com/blog/illustrated-seo-competitive-analysis-workflow. With Vista Print being a huge company, you might be hard-pushed to rank first but I would definitely spend some time to look at their link profile as well as the other top competitors to see how they're approaching their link building strategies.
