  • Let's remove all possible instances in which you might been seen as targeting Ireland. It sounds like the https caused a reclassification of the site. Second question, did you add the https in Search Console? Do you have both there and both are geo-targeted to the US?

  • We do this on a monthly basis with another company (a former employee who moved to a different company, there's synergy in what both companies offer). So far (and we've been doing it for just over a year) we haven't had any problems with doing this. We also do guest blogging without reciprocal relationship. I think it works so long as there are clear, demonstrable reasons for doing so - like I say we do this with a company that is not in direct competition with us but does have synergy with what we offer so we're able to provide expertise in our area for their visitors and vice versa. I think it adds value for our visitors and theirs. Hope this helps

  • If your tracking app allows, track as much as you can. Local and non-local will always be given different positions, so always track both. -Andy

  • Hey thanks for the answer! And thanks for the kind comments! Maybe I should leave the navigation alone then. Some of my thought to go to a solid top bar was to remove any need for JavaScript, but I have always liked having the navigation sit in the corner so that the photos take center stage. I've wanted to do a search for a while, but just haven't had the time to get to it. Maybe I'll put my efforts into that and cleaning up some of my code rather than a full redesign. Thanks for the advice!

  • URGENT:   I checked the text on a few of your product pages, then searched for a snippet of your product description in quotes.  Your descriptions are posted on other sites.   And that text on your site for some products is verbatim identical to the product descriptions displayed on amazon.co.uk.   That is deadly.    Google is filtering several other websites where this same text appears verbatim.  I see amazon with verbatim and four filtered results here.  So, I would be sure that the text on my site is unique.   If you are spreading it to amazon, rewrite what is on your site.  If other people are stealing your text, that's a harder problem to solve. ============================= If this was my site, I would do the following with the category page.  I am not saying that everyone is going to agree with me, but this is where I would bet my money and time. -- Include two to three sentences, in proper language, about each of the products.  Give the visitor enough information so he/she can decide to click.  Don't give me a whiff and make me click to taste it.  People who buy tea are the kind of people who don't mind reading by hate clicking into fifteen pages just to get some idea about the product. -- Personally, I would ditch the hover-over effect and get that text onto the page.  You NEVER know how search engines are going to treat it.  You never know how devices are going to treat it, or how old men like me, who enjoy their tea are going to react when it doesn't seem to work when I click on it.  Also, I believe in getting all of my info out for the visitor.  Don't make the visitor click to another page unless he is really interested. -- I would show the rating on the page.  Ratings  are like bling.  Flaunt them.

  • Thank you John, Marcus: The situation is exactly what MArcus described. Seems like the process is going to be rather straightforward. To answer this, "is this a brand change or just a URL change?" -- it's just a URL change for a news site and there is no official label or brand behind it. I am familiar with the tools your mentioned, so I should be able to handle it. If anything comes up, I will update this thread.

  • Many thanks all. The crawler is currently in the process of creating an image sitemap as we speak. We tweaked the website a little to ensure the ALT text is spot on for the product in question before starting this process. As mentioned my only reason for asking was to ensure that we weren't providing what would essentially have been redundant information for no reason whatsoever (ie Meta Keywords) but you've convinced me that it is a good idea. Speak soon and thanks again.

  • There are a number of tools that will help you with identifying the problematic backlinks. Kerboo (formerly Link Risk) is very good and one of my personal favourites to simplify the process. Alternatively, use URL Profiler. This (I find) more complete and allows me a little more control in how I audit the links, but it depends what you want to do. In my opinion, both are about the best in their class and well worth a look. -Andy

  • There is more to ranking for a keyword than changing out title tags or some such. This actual page on your site has the search term in the URL and likely in the content. There may also be external elements propping that page up. Likewise, the homepage has a job to do also and may be relevant for other terms. I would do the following: 1. Make sure the homepage is fully optimised around that term 2. Make sure this other page is fully optimised around whatever term that now focusses on 3. Request a crawl of your site and then wait for everything to adjust From a super quick look that page also has some links so you could redirect that page to your homepage and then create a new page for whatever other term you want to focus on there. This may cut down any confusion between which page should rank for each search term (the new search term will have a new page + this page will be rolled into the homepage). As ever, you need to experiment and measure the results and likely be a little patient. Hope that helps Marcus
