  • Hey There! If the helmets are actually 3 different styles (rather than just colors) then these really are 3 different products that might have differences in terms of comfort, durability, design and customer satisfaction. Given this, I would not recommend showing the reviews of Style 1 on the the page for Style 2. It's not just a matter of whether or not you should duplicate content here, but rather, ensuring that your customer is being shown reviews that speak to the exact product they are considering buying. After all, what if a customer who purchased Style 1 writes that they they really appreciate the nylon comfort lining in the helmet, but Style 2 doesn't have this comfort lining? If a customer reads the reviews of Style 1 on the page for Style 2 and is misled about that comfort lining, they will be disappointed in the product. So, a better path here would be to form a strategy for increasing the reviews of the actual products, rather than trying to make the reviews of one product serve as testimonial for others. I think it can be helpful to put yourself in the customer's shoes here. When you're looking for a product, you'd certainly want to read reviews about it, rather than reviews of a different product, right? In the online world, where we can't see/hold/examine an item in person, our best option is to glean information from product descriptions and reviews, and we wouldn't appreciate a mixup of customer sentiment being posted with the wrong product. Hope these thoughts are helpful!

  • Hi Justin: I have a client with this problem. All of the filter URLs are crawled by Moz, show as duplicate content in Moz, have 302 warnings in Moz. All of them canonical back to their respective category pages. None appear on WMT/Search Console, but doing a similar "site:URL" search on Google shows they are indexed. I'm curious what you've done in the last year to resolve this? Or have you only tried to resolve via Sitemap submission, and did that work for you? Thank you!

  • If your brands are enterprise level, Hootsuite has extremely impressive, but expensive tools. Rival IQ is the best for keeping up with the competition. Rowfeeder is slick for pulling in hashtags and the like to comb through. Meshfire's doing interesting things around finding influencers and creating Twitter lists for you, but depends on size and scope.

  • Can I have multiple defaults for a single URL when not using x-default? Could you explain better? Hreflang is alternate annotation... so - for instance - in the en-US home page you must indicate the alternative home pages for en (meant for global use of the en-GB, british version of your site), fr-FR (or fr only), en-CA and zh-hans, and vice versa in all the pages. If you mean if the x-default can be different on a URL by URL situation - for instance if you want to set up a british product page as default for all users not targeted with specific geotargeting version of the same product page - in theory that is possible, because the hreflang is URL specific and not domain wide. Said that, you should always state that the british version is meant for all English speaking users apart the geotargeted one (hreflang="en"). The xdefault will tell Google to show the british version URL to all the users from countries and languages not specifically geotargeted (eg.: Spanish speaking users from Spain).

  • Hi Lukas, Are these sections going to be as part of a sidebar, or a section of the footer? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about this kind of duplicate content, as long as the service page content has unique, rich information and good internal linking. I would minimize the amount of these extra sections, and ensure the unique content forms the majority of the overall page content. That assumes these extra sections are just small, if you have lots of information in these sections I'd maybe consolidate them into an FAQ section. You should try to keep each page focused on one goal- presumably generating leads for the specific service the page is discussing. As long as you keep your focus on usability, you'll be fine- I'd definitely avoid adding the information as images, as this won't add any value, but will prevent users from clicking on your contact number to call you, for example. Hope this helps!  Zoe

  • Looks like this has been a bug since 2011? (When looking at the thread https://moz.com/community/q/uk-and-gb-when-selecting-targeted-engines-in-campaign-management.) Jon from Moz said in a comment from 2014 that they would be digging into the problem and updating... but no updates as of today 4/30/2018.
