  • It's impossible to know - Google keeps the images cached on their server to increase performance when displaying them in the search results. It's only when people click on the "view image" that they get to your site. These views you could probably check in the server logs. Don't try to redirect these images back to the "original" page when called from Image Search. It's something Google disapproves and again could lead to a manual action (check http://www.thesempost.com/google-manual-actions-issued-for-image-mismatch/ and https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/3394137?hl=en) Dirk

  • I too also agree with the above. To me the best solution is serving images of different sizes and resolutions based on device and connection speed, this way the customers should get a balance between speed and quality. E.g. serve a x2 res image on retina or retina equivalent if the speed dictates that this is an option. alternatively, if it is a slow device connection, say via limited broadband speed, serve a lower resolution/file size to ensure at least something is delivered in an optimised speed. I would suggest playing and finding the right balance for your site and market. Finally, I find that using SVG images is the best for gaining a speed advantage. Cheers Tim

  • Thank you Anders for your help! To answer some of your questions. We have not ran the new report with the number based system for page grades. I will do that and see where we are at for that keyword. We were previously graded A for Detroit wedding dj. I don't believe we are doing as well as we could with internal linking. What kind of internal linking strategy would you take with this page? Suggestions? External linking is pretty steady, although 90% of our high valued links, are going to the home page. As far as the competition goes and their strategy, I am not seeing them do even half of the work that we are doing. The one problem we had, was the site was blacklisted about a year ago. Some seo hack was hired and ranked the site in 3-4 weeks, but then Google cops showed up and shut it down. It took a lot of money and effort to get a clean bill of health from Google, but it has been a slow climb back out. The site has been clean for a whole year now, it just seems like we should be dominating based on our metrics and efforts, but alas we sit on page 2-3 for some of these important keywords. Any help is appreciated - Ryan

  • Thanks for responding, I know that it's a bit of wishful thinking on the part of a time frame things will take place. It's just such a blackeye to see these linkfarms helping competitors rank when they aren't being relevant or useful. As well seeing places like BBB do some follow backlinking while telling new customers they're " phasing " it out, while keeping the follow links where they are for who knows how long is very frustrating, specially since competitors are sucking that precious link life blood. In niche markets, backlinks are more valuable than gold.

  • I'd clean up any errors that google webmaster tools says you have, Fix all 404 and other pages Check on keyword usage through out your site, make sure you link to others a few times on each page but only sites you trust that are relevant to your site. Write helpful content about your site's subject matter that will help users so they trust you further to use your service after they see the help works. Monitor your traffic and see where users are clicking once they hit your site, and adjust the user experience based on that info and bounce rates. See what your competitors are ranking and for what keywords, see about finding other keywords they may have missed, or just check to see how you could better use them on your own site. It's no longer about being better and having more links from others. It's about how legit your information and content is to what your overall site is selling. If you have a carpet cleaning site but you give reviews and info about nothing once so ever, you haven't introduced anything to the SERPs and therefor will be left behind. Content is key but helping your fellow users is the overall goal. I'm sure others will mention the many things I failed to think of at this very moment to assist you

  • I understand that. Sometimes it's a little frustrating to rank but I encourage you to ask yourself this questions: I'm trying to run a marathon rather than 100 metres?: try to rank first for less competitive keywords like "dinning tables" or "dining chairs in london" rather than "furniture" Do people know me?: maybe you need a little boost to people know you so you can get some SEO signals (links, social shares, branding). Try to run an AdWords Campaign, get active in your social media niche, make partnerships with niche sites (not just for get links, get visibility to other audiences). I'm measuring the right KPI's?: sometimes ranking for highly competitive keywords is not the best option if you have a brand new domain. Are you receiving organic traffic? Are you getting long tail rankings? How's the conversion rate of organic search compared to other sources? Are you receiving non-brand traffic rather than your brand (in Google Search Console).   • Exactly, also your Meta Description should have the terms you want to rank indepently this only will affect your CTR and doesn't affect the ranking of this page: Try to use "SSl-5 duncan" in this item and check in a couple of days I also suggest to check with Google Keyword Planner or a similar tool if "SSl-5 duncan" it's a relevant keyword in searches.   • Might depend of your budget and your country, but in most of the cases (if you spend a lot of money) you have a Google rep. I had a siimilar case before and we had continuous contact with a Google rep. in Chile. Why not move forward calling again and ask for the Google rep. assigned to your MCC/account?

  • Yeah, they don't explicitly mention 301s. But similar to a 404, a 301ed page is technically also not an "existent URL with good content." It's a permanent move, i.e., that particular URL no longer exists, though the content does exist at a new URL. Dr. Pete wrote a good post about rel=canonicals a couple years ago that's worth checking out—numbers 3, 7, 9, and 10 in particular. As far as the lack of consistency in the results, if you're treating all the URLs the same way, it might simply be a time lag. I could see how using 302s for a long period of time would end up showing the vanity URLs in the index. The only way I think you could consistently get a particular URL to display for a result would be to establish it as the official, "canonical" version of the page, whether you do that with 301s or rel=canonical.

  • Hi there. Well, the key would be how many backlinks there are and how likely for your blog to lose its rankings and value if you move it off that high DA domain. Also do consider that generally 100 backlinks from the same domain is not bringing as much of a juice as 1 backlink from 100 domains. Some say it's really referral domain what matter, not as much as quantity of backlinks from that domain. Hope this makes sense.

  • Agreed with Miriam and Ira. In order to obtain multiple GMB listings (since the clinic you want to sell the STD tests to will already have its own) for the same location/practice/clinic, you would need to have separate business brands operating within the same office. Google's My Business guidelines state: “If your business location combines two or more brands, do not combine the brand names into a single page. Instead, pick one brand’s name for the page. If the brands operate independently, you may use a separate page for each brand at this location****.” In other words, the only way you can obtain multiple GMB pages is if you have two totally different brands working under one roof (and even then you risk Google conflating the listings). Or, of course, if you have multiple practitioners at one location. Best practice for multiple brands in the same practice location:  assure each brand has its own verified suite number from the post office (if possible); each of the two brands within the practice should have their own website; each brand should have its own business category (preferably); and each brand would need to have its own business name and phone number of course.   • In general, you should consider whether a link is valuable for the people visiting the other site. If so, then it is worth adding. If not, and it is simply a link exchange for the sole purpose of attempting to improve SEO, then you should not bother.

  • It probably won't hurt your rankings, but we would need a URL to say more. Do you see links to the fonts in your source code? If it's not immediately obvious you could try running a crawl to see where these are being linked from. It's probably a simple matter of cleaning up some CSS.

  • An easy way to say something about revenue are goals in analytics. It's pretty easy for clients to tell you, what a conversation or lead is worth for them.
