Local SEO Strategy after Pigeon update.
Hi Jubaer! The first thing to do here is to establish what connection your business has to these other target states where you lack a physical location. A web design company isn't like an SAB (a plumber, electrician, etc.) that will typically travel to various cities to serve clients. So, your connection is likely to be different to this, and for your industry, is typically going to be the fact that you have clients in these states. So, one suggestion would be that you create a page for each target state (it sounds like you're going after states instead of cities, right?) and then showcase your clients in that state on its designated page on the website. Add really good testimonials from the clients in those cities, accompanying their business showcase and brainstorm other content you might add to these pages to make them interesting and helpful. Understand that you will, of course, be going after organic rankings rather than local ones, and that if you fail to get the organic results you're hoping for (competition is likely to be very stiff) you may need to rely in part or in full on PPC instead of organic.

Can You Help Confirming That 1stWebDesigner Was hit by Panda 4.0 and PayDay Loans 2.0,3.0?
You're very welcome. OK, so if we can see that the drop happened May 20, 2014, then there is a high possibility that Panda has affected your site. We can't always say that with certainty though. I remember the week following that date, I had three separate sites that came to me saying that they had been horribly hit by Panda. One of the sites had done a redesign and launched May 19. The redesign changed all of the title tags and the urls, so it was not Panda's fault that they dropped in rankings. Another site had also redesigned and the developer forgot to put the Google analytics tracking code on the site. So, rankings didn't change but it looked like traffic plummeted. And the final site had accidentally noindexed 90% of their site. I'm not kidding! Still, a big drop on May 20 (give or take one day) means that there are on-site quality issues to address. While it's never wrong to audit your backlinks I'd spend more time reviewing on page factors. When Panda first came out I spent a lot of time looking at thin and duplicate content. While that stuff, especially thin content is still important, there are a LOT more factors that go into Panda. I firmly believe now that Panda is Google's way of figuring out what users prefer seeing. As such, I focus on three things: Improving technical SEO. Removing or vastly improving thin content. (And yes, redirecting to an appropriate page or category page is fine.) Figuring out how the site can be the best of its kind for users. This involves looking at competitors' sites with a non-biased eye and also looking at analytics data to see if there are pages in the index that users are not happy with (i.e. they consistently bounce or spend very little time on the page compared to others.) How can I find duplicate pages from a Moz Crawl?
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The open site explorer is helpful for issues that have a manageable number of internal links. However, for the example above and a few others like it on our website it is not that helpful because isolating the link would still require us to click on the pages individually to view the source code. This is because most of our errors are minor errors such as an omitted slash or capitalization. Such errors are flagged as duplicate content in our Moz crawl but the links still work because they redirect to the correct page and thus they are not able to be isolated on the open site explorer. Unfortunately the .csv is no help at all because it only shows the page being linked to not the page where the actual link is coming from. Are we just out of luck on this or is there another option?

Meta description issue on Google
For the "globe car" keyword, google shows the result from your meta description. But for "globecar" keyword, I think it's showing the result from your G+ business listing page. It should be happening for Structured Data (schema) or as it's your brand name.

Another Duplicate Content - eCommerce Question!
I totally agree with Linda. it won't hurt your site or won't penalize. I think the best solution for this is, just simply ask your partner site to change the product description rel= "author" as your site name. It will help the both sites.

Location pages for Two location business
Hey There! This is the strategy I would recommend: You have 2 locations. Put them in the masthead of the website to make that first glance impression that you've got 2 locations. Build a landing page for each of the 2 locations and make the content on them unique and awesome, with the complete NAP in Schema at the top for just the correct location. I do not advise putting both locations on the 2 landings pages. Don't put NAP on the landing pages for the non-physical locations, and be sure there is a genuine reason for the existence of these pages. Normally, location-less landing pages are built for service area businesses, not brick-and-mortar concerns. For example, it makes good horse sense for a plumber to explain that he services cities A, B, C and D, but for a dentist, saying that his customers may come to him from cities A,B,C and D is not really natural or helpful. Unless there is some genuine connection between the business and these surrounding cities, it would likely be better to focus on different types of content development that will make the site stronger rather than watering the site down with content that's a stretch in terms of usefulness. Please feel free to share further details about this, but normally, city landing pages of the type you are describing are best for SABs, not B&Ms, unless there is a strong connection between the business and some other city in which they are not located. Put both locations, in Schema, in the footer and on the Contact page. Combined with the NAP in the masthead, this should address the need to be sure customers know you've got 2 locations. Definitely do link all citations (including the GMB listing) to the right landing page for each of the 2 locations. Be consistent. Hope this helps!

Query results being indexed and providing no value to real estate website - best course of action?
Ideally, you'd set the meta robots in that page to noindex,follow. This will allow link juice to flow from all of those pages to the pages in your main navigation as well as removing them from the index. If you cannot modify the section of those pages, then, at a minimum, you could tell Webmaster Tools to ignore the pre and start parameters (specify that the parameter merely sorts the data on the page). Then, you'd end up with just 1 page indexed per city, which is probably a lot better than where you are now.

What is the best SEO tool for tracking local rankings
If you want to track your rankings rather than doing competitor analysis, according to me SEMRush is the best. Cause you can track keyword ranking on local based (city level), national based and global based as well. It's really essential after the pigeon update.

International site
Hi Peter, in this article it talks about a simple depending on users localization redirect, in the same domain. In my case are two domains. the first www.sea-aeroportimilano.it with a redirect 302 to a landing page in italian or english in another domain (www1.seamilano.eu/landing/index_it.html). I would like to follow the google guide lines for redirection and to set a 301 between www.sea-aeroportimilano.it and www1.seamilano.eu/landing, and after that a 302 for the language. Of course I will add hreflang for IT and EN. What do you think? Massimiliano

Does a JS script who scroll automaticaly into pages could make some content "hidden" ?
Depending on how you cause the scroll to happen, Google might render the page unscrolled or scrolled. Usually if it's done in the onload() function via Jscript, Google will execute that script and render the page as it is after the script is executed. I've seen examples though where using JQuery's document ready function is NOT executed by Google to render the page. Test in Google Search Console, using Fetch and Render as Googlebot.

How to perform keyword research for Innovative products?
Hello Taysir, I don't like the suggestion of trying to rank for similar searches. That smells like "bait and switch", and would probably lead to poor user-engagement metrics, which would eventually harm your rankings across the board. Creating demand for new products and services is always a challenge. You have to get out of the pattern of thinking about keywords and start thinking about personas and topics instead. You'll be writing very early buying-stage content for each persona. This is content designed to drive traffic from people who might be interested in what you have to offer, but don't know about it yet. Here are some examples without me really knowing enough about the product to give "real" suggestions: Persona: Style Focused Samuel Interests: Fashion, style, celebrity culture, music Topic Idea: The Footwear Style Guide for 20016 Details: Contact publicists and send free samples to celebrities and athletes. Show pictures of celebrities, fashionistas and others pushing the trends of footwear. One of the several different "trends" to look out for will be your clients' innovative shoe product. Publish this on a shoe/footwear or fashion blog if you can. Persona: Price Conscious Carroll Interests: Family, budgeting, jogging Topic Idea: Saving Money on Kids' Shoes Details: Kids wear out and grow out of shoes constantly. Here are a few ideas to keep kiddie footwear expenses from breaking your bank. 1. Once-Upon-a-Child... similar stores. 2. This "innovative" shoe product that will lasts for years, guaranteed (again, I know nothing about the product so...). The idea is to introduce them to the product and brand by means of addressing their interests and concerns. If you get them to your site, offer a freebie, discount, premium gated content, or something else worth providing their email address for. Step 1 - Identify the audience segments most likely to be interested in this new, innovative product.Step 2 - Create an audience persona for each of your major segments (2-3 typically). Include things like what they are interested in; where they currently go online to read, watch, socialize and shop; who influences them online; etc... Step 3 - Write content that both addresses their needs/interests while at the same time featuring this brand and their new footwear product. Preferably, publish the content on a site you have identified as a place where this segment hangs out online (e.g. Jogging forums, fashion blogs...) to reach an audience much bigger than you would by publishing it on your site. The content should try to get them to the site though - usually by peaking their interests for more information, or offering them something of value. Step 4 - Collect their email address when they come to the site. Step 5 - Nurture them to a purchase over time through email offers (premium content, discounts, freebies...) If you need to create demand for a new keyword search, just use it in the content, press releases, etc... and over time some search volume should start to creep up. In the meantime, don't let that keep you from driving qualified traffic to the site with persona-based topic research. Good luck!

Structured data and Google+ Local business page are conflicting
Hi Niek, You know, this is a very tricky one, as frankly, I wouldn't advise reporting the business as closed to Google, given that you don't really want to send a signal to them that the place has gone out of business, even if you're no longer operating as a local company. Normally, I'm helping business owners who want to be sure they're doing well locally, so this question is reverse engineering for me. Obviously, you can't force Google to show a different type of knowledge panel (like the one they show for Hubspot) and I do confirm that what they are showing for a branded search for your business is a local-type knowledge panel which clicks over to the local data in the Maps view, but if you were to try to close the listing, it might not be the right thing to do. I seldom make a recommendation like this, but if I were in your shoes, I'd see if I could get Joy Hawkins at Imprezzio Marketing to consult with me. She has made a special study of particular aspects of Google listings, including closing them, duplicates, etc. She would be the person I'd reach out to for some consulting time to see if you can erase a local footprint without harming your overall signals to Google that this business is, in fact, in operation but simply not in local operation anymore.
