Display:None
If you just will display icons then it's OK. But it's dangerous to display text with display: none: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-display-none-20626.html https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66353?hl=en https://youtu.be/7y-m_jiayLQ https://youtu.be/B9BWbruCiDc https://www.seroundtable.com/google-hiding-content-17136.html https://www.seroundtable.com/google-hidden-tab-content-seo-19489.html Because hiding text give "less weight" and you may get into trouble.

Email Campaign Tracking within Domain & Subdomains
Hi, It seems to me like you need cross-domain tracking. In the sequence you describe, when someone hits the subdomain first before clicking to the main site, it's coming through as referral traffic - at which point you're losing the connection (you can still get this data, but in a much more convoluted way). You should also be able to tag multiple domains with your email tool, so either (sub)domain you link to would have the same parameters, and with cross-domain tracking enabled, you'll have session unification between the 2 domains.

How would a redesign, content update and URL change affect ranking?
When I worked on the rebrand from SEOmoz.org to Moz.com, we faced exactly this situation. You can watch my Mozinar about it here https://moz.com/webinars/domain-migrations-lessons-from-the-moz-transition. In brief: You should expect to see a temporary dip in traffic and rankings, but it's totally reversible. Do as much link reclamation (reaching out to sites that link to you and asking them to update their links) as you can. Plan for a concerted link building effort to the new site to coincide with launch. Go page-to-page with redirects wherever possible. Use the Change Address function in Search Console. Make sure that pages that rank for core terms now redirect to pages that target those same terms. I've also noticed that Google has been slower than usual at indexing new pages lately, sometimes taking upwards of a week, so keep that in mind as you check for your new site being indexed. Good luck!

Can an AJAX framework (using HTML5 + pushstate) on your site impact your ranking?
Long story short - YES. Any JS framework can impact your ranking. I share again here link on Distilled how they using custom service to providing pure HTML version of site to bots only: https://www.distilled.net/resources/prerender-and-you-a-case-study-in-ajax-crawlability/ And seems that experiment works very well on them.

Looking for a Proof Reader for a Moz Blog Post..
First, I apologize for responding so tardily. I would like to congratulate you for taking the time to craft a post for YouMoz. Also, it's commendable that you're seeking feedback at this stage. Most authors, myself included, simply want it off their plates at this stage. While, yes, as Dirk said, it can take time for us to get to your post, that's owing in large part to (a) the initial quality of the post (posts that are more ready to be posted do get moved ahead of the line as we review, re-review and include copious notes in the articles to authors for revision) and (b) how effective authors are at making the needed changes in a timely fashion. Our goal with YouMoz is to post the best content possible. That can mean a lot of back and forth between author and editor. Feel free to email us at editor@moz.com RS

What to do with mismatched blog content?
There are 2 schools of thought here: The pure old school SEO approach is to leave all of that content on the site so long as it meets some basic content quality requirements like length, non-duplication, etc. If those posts have a good number of inbound links (more than 5-10% of your link profile), then there's an even stronger argument to leave them there, and just publish some new content so that they go deeper into your archives. I think that's a perfectly legitimate approach in this case, unless you're getting tons of annoying contact form submissions from people wanting help with problems you don't want to be involved with. That would be a good argument for removing these posts. The second angle is the editorial content purist approach. This approach would say "traffic and links be damned, if it doesn't convey the intended message to your target audience, kill it." If your content was really off topic - like a gardening tutorial, I would recommend this route. However - your content is related to IT and programming from what I can see - eg a post about Accessing Networking Settings in Windows XP. In my opinion, that type of content is still compelling to a small business owner who might hire you, because it's further proof that you're technically savvy. From that standpoint, I think you could make a good argument for leaving that content in place. The final point is whether Google thinks your site is about SEO/web design, or about IT support. This is a legitimate concern. I would address it by simply adding a lot of new blog posts over the course of the year, entirely dedicated to web design and marketing. It's possible to "retrain" Google's understanding of what your site is about by doing this consistently enough. Here's a great post that I think would be a good tactic for you to pursue while retraining Google to understand your site's new purpose: http://www.anumhussain.com/presentations/topics-over-keywords.

Use of multiple keywords that are similar for one local site
Matt is correct - building pages in a way that adds value to the user is the way to go. Building a separate page for each variation of a keyword is not only unnecessary, it can lead to lower rankings overall since Google has stated that these are not the kinds of sites they want to rank. I would recommend very strongly against scraping content from other sites, or posting the same content on mulitple sites that you own, as well. Spend that time and effort on creating unique, expert, trustworthy content that adds value for your audience instead. I haven't read the book you mention, but it might be time to find a different resource to learn about content marketing.
