  • Have you performed any more disavow processes since? If you have not, simply login to your Search Console and head to the disavow section. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links If you have not added any more, simply click the profile you are working with, and it should open up a box with a link to your most recent added file. See my linked image which shows the pop up. You can then download the text file that you/they added. Hope that helps. If it is an older file, I would suggest talking to google about seeing previous versions of the txt file, that is if they hold onto them. X8nsy5k

  • I see a ton of churn with small, boutique merchants, and even the large ones have been grumbling lately about not wanting to support certain types of websites. I think it really depends on how effectively you're able to leverage your publishers, but as with everything you get a lot of merchants who join up with no idea how to do that.

  • Sounds like you've got a solid plan! Good luck, and make sure to let your boss and coworkers know that you will almost definitely see a temporary decrease in organic traffic through this process. It doesn't mean that you've ruined it, just that Google needs to adjust. Good luck!

  • Jordan is right, I don't recommend spinning any of the content, it generally doesn't turn out well for users, and tends to make it 'unreadable'. Your best bet here is to think of Search and Email as two separate things. If you're going to use the content in multiple newsletters and reach other audiences (the same person won't read it twice), then that's perfectly fine. However, if you're going to allow ANY of it to get indexed by the search engines, then I would only allow one copy to get indexed. You can archive the other copies, but just make sure that you don't allow indexing of those copies. Duplicate Content isn't generally thought of as  'penalty', it's more about the fact that only the first crawled version gets indexed, and the others generally don't.

  • The others are right, you should be looking for another company to provide you with unique posts for both UX and search engine reasons. I wouldn't expect that you'll find yourself with a penalty since it will look more like poorly managed syndication than anything else but at the same time, you're not going to get any value out of it. The best ways to handle it would be to use one of the three methods (preferably rel=canonical) that tell search engines that your content came from one of the other sites it has been posted on but of course, doing this essentially says "this isn't my content, please give me no credit for it" which begs the question... why pay for it?

  • There have been a few people at Moz with similar problems with GSC. People always throw a few ideas around: maybe Google is creating URLs to try to find pages that it can't find through crawling links alone? Maybe another site was trying to hack your site by creating URLs they were hoping would trigger certain content on your site (a laughable idea now, but I remember my college professor showing us a site that put cost parameters in the URL during check out)? However they got there, though, Eric and Chris gave you some good ways to make sure that you're not still in trouble (if you ever were). Hope this helps!

  • I'm so glad to help, Jon   And that's very kind of you to say you'd hire me - how nice to hear! I'm actually all booked up right now, but we do have a great list on our Moz Local Search Ranking Factors 2015 survey of widely-recognized local SEO experts, should that need arise. If you look in the Contributors box on the right of that page, nearly all of the participants run or work at Local Search Marketing firms and all are recognized experts. Might be something to keep in mind if you need extra help when you've done all you can on your own.

  • I love Tim's answer, and I want to add that the amount of time needed to become competitive can vary a lot—in fact, there are industries in which a site with those stats would already be competitive. Along with everything Tim suggests, I also recommend benchmarking all of those stats against other sites with which you expect to compete. That'll give you a much better sense of how much will need to be done.

  • When I ran the content marketing department for a successful agency in Dallas, I took our department down the precise path you now look at. I worked to identify (through social media interactions, in-person meetings at conferences and introductions by friends and acquaintances.) What I found to be most successful was selecting individuals who had an understanding of PR. These folks can work wonders in helping you create, share and promote the types of content worthy of getting links and mentions. These are also the folks who are most likely to have the needed connections that can help the brands you work with attain meaningful traction. When it comes to link building and outreach, mindset is as important is an important to the connections you hope to form. RS

  • Like you mention, the introduction copy on each category page contain naturally placed links down to sub categories and products and should each sub category link back up to the main category page. What we typically recommend is that you concentrate on linking to "on topic" pages. Take a look at what Amazon has done, as their internal link structure has always worked well for them. Each product links to other related products, and products that "others have bought" or viewed.

  • Great question John. If I'm understanding your question correctly, you want to know how to specifically fix the 404 errors with parameters that are appearing in your GSC account? Parameters are very useful if used correctly, but I want to make sure I'm understanding your question completely before answering. What exactly are you trying to solve?

  • Tormar, Can you share the site so we can see exactly what's going on and provide a better answer? We find many eCommerce sites overdo anchor text. For example, if you sell Car Stereos and you have brands/manufacturer categories in the navigation, this is too much anchor text for "car stereos" below: Car Stereos by Brand JVC Car Stereos Clarion Car Stereos Kenwood Car Stereos Blaupunkt Car Stereos .... We advice those clients to use labels like this: Car Stereos by Brand JVC Clarion Kenwood Blaupunkt ... Without seeing your site, I'm not sure exactly what you're doing. However, if you find that the changes you made continue to have a negative impact on your rankings, the obvious choice would be to undo those changes.
