  • Hi Sachin, AMP isn't really meant yet for product pages as it's mostly something that works for publishers on pages that have a lot of content and not really a next step as in e-commerce store. But because of a plugin you would already be able to instantly create the millions of pages as the code takes care of the data and it won't mean you have to set it up everywhere.

  • Sending the searcher to another ad-ridden SERP doesn't surprise me. Google is the ultimate ad-pushing scraper site. The Related Topics featured snippet seems to be quite similar to the People Also Ask feature that usually appears below the featured snippet separately. I've seen no mention of them on getSTAT's Featured Snippet whitepaper either, and that was quite thorough SERP research. How new are Related Topics? Or am I being silly, and they've been around for a while?

  • As Eric hinted, the best method to prevent any pages being indexed would be to use htaccess password protection dialog on your development site. It's fairly easy to implement. You can find instructions to do so here: http://www.htaccesstools.com/articles/password-protection/

  • Hi Aleyda, Thanks for the response. The website is a .com and actually attracts visitors internationally,  although none of the content is aimed at specific countries. The content is more or less the same as it was on the original version though.  We use categories on the website, though due to the fact w can add no content to category pages we have created content page to look and feel like a category page , set the categories to no index and ensured the content pages that replace them are the rel-canonical.  Visitor numbers are starting to improve steadily now.

  • All the images on the page are not on a subdomain of rcautomotive.com but a completely different domain " images.dealerfire.com ". Even the image that is used to populate social media thumbnails is from dealerfire.com. I would start with looking at moving those over to rcautomotive.com if possible

  • Hello, 100% agree with everything Patrick put here. I just thought I would add that Meta-Data is also relevant and important for conversion purposes. Without inputting Meta-Data Google will just crawl the title on the page and use the first 155 characters in the body in the SERP. Having Meta-Data replaces this and, depending on how engaging it is, it can also increase the CTR. A higher CTR is considered a ranking factor. Luke

  • As I noted in my endorsement, I'm 100% with Patrick on this. I just wanted to drive home this point—do not buy links. It can work for a bit, but you will get caught, and it will be extremely difficult to regain your rankings.

  • I think your interpretation is a bit tightly wound - in this case, you're not paying for the link, you're paying for a membership into the Chamber of Commerce. That you get a link is a bi-product, and it is not 'what you pay for', there's much more to the CoC than web links. I'm sure you're correctly quoting something from somewhere, and I'm not going to bother to do the research to debate in quote format about it.  I'm just letting you know, in all my experience in SEO client sites, that purchasing a membership in the Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce or a long list of other legitimate local business directories, that these links seem to have a very positive affect on SERPs. But maybe I'm just getting lucky. In the end, there's no need for confusion. Experiment and see what happens. That's what makes SEO so fun!

  • Hello, Alt tags are definitely important for on-page optimizations but they were originally created to literally help Google understand what your image is (since GoogleBot can't actually see the image). If you have 1000s of images across your site that don't have alt tags, I wouldn't be extremely worried. I would recommend taking a look at other areas on your site and seeing if there are improvements to be made that could potentially have a bigger impact on your rankings or user behavior (i.e. h1 tags, internal linking structure, etc.) If everything else on your site looks ideal, then perhaps create a strategy for the top 50 landing pages that have images and add alt tags and measure to see if rankings improve at all. If they do, create a plan to add alt tags to the rest of the images across the site. If not, I would recommend simply adding alt tags to new images on new pages from now on. In other words: don't worry, there are other changes you can probably make that will have a bigger impact. If you have the resources, go back and test out 50 or so pages by adding alt tags. If not, simply start adding alt tags to new images and pages when they are created from now on. Oh and in regards to what your ALT tags should be, they should represent what the image is. For example, if you have an image of a man eating an apple, the alt tag could be "man-eating-apple". Hope that helps!

  • Hi Andy! Kristina from Moz's Help Team here. Sorry to hear about the trouble! We were experiencing intermittent issues with Open Site Explorer yesterday and earlier today but the issue seems to be resolved now. Can you please try again and let me know if you're still seeing issues on your end? If you are, an example of a URL you're experiencing the issue on would be a great example to provide to our engineers. As always, you can email our team help@moz.com any time you're experiencing technical issues within the product for a faster turn-around time. I hope this helps! Please let me know if there's anything else I'm able to assist with. -Kristina
