Link check via open site explorer not working?
Hi Bob, Gaston is absolutely correct - Links will only be updated as MOZ finds the links as it trawls the web. I did have a quick look on Ahrefs for you and it shows 35 referring domains and 70 backlinks, so it does indeed look like you are growing links steadily. -Andy

Home Pages of Several Websites are disappearing / reappearing in Google Index
I just took the first domain you gave me I tested them on two tools you lack canonical's on all but the homepage for all three and all three failed the https://varvy.com test imranlaw.ca dietrichlaw.ca canadaenergy.ca burntucker.com past the Varvy test but has only one canonical https://cl.ly/hPdN https://cl.ly/hPoe bolandhowe.com is the probably the most affected it has way too many 200 code URLs canonical's pointing to the HTTPS however they should be using a 301 redirect See search engine land post below & these photos https://cl.ly/hPyM & https://cl.ly/hPUj Preform a search and replace see: https://cl.ly/hPe6 https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2291162/seo-audit-findings-4-hidden-technical-problems-that-can-send-dangerous-signals-to-search-engines https://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2300520/technical-seo-for-nontechnical-people I took the domainIn number three above and ran it through screaming frog I found no canonical's for all but one URL. Take a look at what most of the URLs appear like. https://cl.ly/hPNg In addition found that you have a redirect chain photos below they should go straight to HTTPS://www.canadaenergy.ca I would utilize HSTS as well this will help considerably. And adding canonical's https://cl.ly/hPJd to https://cl.ly/hPr1 to https://cl.ly/hPyj Domain number two dietrichlaw.ca the same situation you have one canonical URL homepage nothing else has a canonical https://cl.ly/hPzk https://cl.ly/hPlk domain number one imranlaw.ca same situation see below no canonical except for the homepage | Address | http://www.imranlaw.ca/ | | URL Encoded Address | http://www.imranlaw.ca/ | | Status Code | 200 | | Status | OK | | Content | text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 | | Size | 13160 | | Title 1 | Mississauga Immigration Lawyer & Canadian Citizenship Attorney | | Meta Description 1 | Imran Khan - Canada Immigration lawyer and Canadian Citizenship attorney Mississauga Immigration Lawyer | | H1-1 | Canadian Immigration & Naturalization Lawyer | | H2-1 | Imran Khan Law Office offers Legal Services in Immigration Law and Real Estate Law Matters. | | Meta Robots 1 | index, follow | | Canonical Link Element 1 | http://www.imranlaw.ca/ | | Word Count | 275 | | Level | 1 | | Inlinks | 28 | | Outlinks | 19 | | Address | http://www.imranlaw.ca/contact | | URL Encoded Address | http://www.imranlaw.ca/contact | | Status Code | 200 | | Status | OK | | Content | text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 | | Size | 14503 | | Title 1 | Mississauga Immigration Lawyer - Contact | | Meta Description 1 | Imran Khan - Canada Immigration lawyer and Canadian Citizenship attorney Contact Imran Khan | | H1-1 | Contact Imran Khan Law Office | | Meta Robots 1 | index, follow | | Word Count | 276 | | Level | 2 | | Inlinks | 28 | | Outlinks | 17 | https://cl.ly/hPsc https://cl.ly/hPdC https://cl.ly/hQ1I A few domains the ones above which are listed below as well fail to be able to be seen by a synthetic Googlebot. Are you running them all on the same server? You have some domains and in .com and others that end in .ca if you are looking in Google.ca and have geo-targeted the .com domains to Canada you should see them there. However if you're looking in Google.com obviously you cannot geo-target .CA domains to the United States therefore they would not show up in .com unless very rarely. Deep crawl and screaming frog are going to be a best friends on this one. Please let me know if I can be of more help here are my findings using a basic tool dietrichlaw.ca and put it into https://varvy.com The results were Findable links Well formed static links not found. 301 vs 302
Hi Paul, What Bernadette says has a lot of truth. Even, there's been some recently changes in 3xx redirection rules. And a great professional (Cyrus Shepard) wrote a nice piece of text about that in the Moz Blog. Check it out! 301 Redirects Rules Change: What You Need to Know for SEO In my opinion, historically 301 are better than 302, if you can set 301, do it. Best Luck. GR.

Hotel SEO / Rank Conundrum
Hi Bernadette, thanks for taking the time to respond. The owner in question is most certainly representing his ownership and we had advised legal options, though the client is not quite ready to pursuit anything yet. Thank you for the lengthy feedback, we certainly appreciate any help we can get.

Huge organic drop following new site go live
Its really hard to analyze a traffic drop like this without some critical information about serps. The main guess here is that some high traffic ranking just dropped, that's why im asking about the SC information. And yes, some of all of these issues combined can cause the traffic drop. I'd try to use the analytics information looking for some specific item, such as a page what recieved a lot of traffic and then stopped recieving

Hi Andy This is why I have asked the question as the wiki is on its own domain so these aren't internal links. Andrew

Merging Pages and SEO
It's hard to say how much traffic you'll lose from the merge. Like Logan said, you'll definitely lose a bit when you first move, but long term, you'll need to look at your competition to figure out if it's better to keep the pages separate or combine them. I don't recommend keeping pages A, B, and C if you're going to hide them from the main structure of your site. Pages get most of their Page Authority from internal links (unless they're link bait), so they won't be able to rank anyway. That said, here's how I'd estimate the loss of traffic from the move: Use Google Search Console to determine the primary keyword/s for page A, B, and C Use a tool like Open Site Explorer to determine the number of links A, B, and C have. (Bonus: look at the websites linking to A, B, or C. If those are resource pages, there's a good chance their webmaster will update their links to page D, which will help with the traffic dip. If they're from news articles, you'll probably have to rely on 301s.) Search for each of those top keywords and look at your competition. Does the competition closely target the term? Will page D seem as relevant to the keyword as A, B, or C did? Now, look at the Page Authorities of the competition for each keyword. Will page D, which will have a combo of links from A, B, and C, blow your competition out of the water? About match it? Still be a bit behind? Here's the part that's really tough: for each keyword, estimate where page D would rank, given how well it targets the keyword and how many inbound links it has. Estimate the % increase or drop in traffic based on adjusted click through rate. You can find this by playing around in Google Search Console to find a time when your site ranked in a different position, or by using average click through rates, like here. Once you're done, put together your estimated percent increases or drops in traffic to estimate how the new page will perform. (I recommend you look at a percent change because adding up totals only for top keywords won't take long tail keywords into account, and you'll almost definitely come up with a much lower count than you're currently getting.) Not the easiest process in the world, and your estimate will almost definitely be wrong, since you make a lot of assumptions along the way. But it should give you an idea of whether you'll eventually gain or lose traffic from the move, once that initial Googlebot confusion wears off. Hope this makes sense! Let me know if you have any questions! Kristina

How to track my actual traffic source using Google Analytics which are now showing as referral traffic?
1. Adding this doesn't change the way a transaction is tracked, but instead makes it so that you can view the 'event' that fired under the event tracking in GA. If you look under here (Behavior > Events) can you see the successful event and the source/medium that drove it? 2. Have you also tried the previously mentioned segmentation under User Explorer? None of these fixes are going to change the way the data appears in the acquisition report (switching to PayPal Payments Pro usually does the trick, but is more expensive). All we're really looking to do here is find another way to attribute the conversions to their source. I'd recommend revisiting my most recent reply on how to segment the users under User Explorer as this will likely give you the best insights. Let me know if you run into any issues there and I'll help you out.

URL structuring / redirect question
Chris - thanks for the response, the kind words, and for pointing out the footer link issues. We're still cleaning a few things up. Do you know if there are any concerns associated with using a 302 long term, say 3+ years? I'm contemplating using a 302 or just adding a generic paragraph about our fundraising platform to the empty page and leaving it out of our menu drop downs. This way I won't get dinged by Google crawlers for a blank page. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Kurt

Review page set up
Hi Meier, Hmm, I'm not aware of a plugin that auto-generates links to all your review profiles. Maybe someone else in our community knows of one? However, just for fun and inspiration, check out this page: http://barbaraoliverandco.com/reviews-testimonials/ If that were my client, I'd put the asks higher up on the page, but this is Mike Blumenthal's client so I won't second guess him Also, be sure you are reading the review guidelines of each platform you're planning to showcase before you move ahead.

Why Page Authority = 1
Hi there - Sam from Moz's help team here! Our Page Authority (PA) is a metric that comes from our Mozscape Index. You can read more about the metric here. Much of the time, pages that have a PA of 1 haven't yet been discovered by our index crawler. You can always use Open Site Explorer to check on whether they are included in the index, and which links we have discovered. Small sites generally won't stay in our index if we don't find new links to a domain. Our cache will remove a link after 190 days unless re-crawled. You can look in Just Discovered (https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/just-discovered?site=moz.com&filter=&source=&target=page&page=1&sort=crawled) to see if your domain is in queue for re-indexing from new discovered links. If not, you will want to keep link building on sites that have high authority and are likely able to be picked up. You can see our most recently updated index schedule here as well as some more technical metrics on our Mozscape API Updates page. You can also see when the last and next updates happened on the Open Site Explorer (OSE) homepage at any time. Just a few points on how we compile our index: We grab the most recent index. We take the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank (with a fixed limit on some of the larger domains). We start crawling from the top down until we've crawled ~130 billion URLs The idea here is that we're focusing on the highest-quality links we can find, coming from the most prominent pages of authoritative sites. So, while you may not see every link for a site within our index, we're aiming to report the most valuable ones available! Most new sites and links will be indexed by our spiders and available in Mozscape and Open Site Explorer within 60 days, but some take even longer for many reasons - including the crawl-ability of sites, the number of inbound links to them, and the depth of pages in subdirectories. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or shoot over an email to help@moz.com.

Do links on Reference.com and Ask.com count as backlinks?
Hi Martijn Thanks for your response. That's really useful and makes a lot of sense. I will aim for more relevant links. For a legal website (no win no fee solicitors - specifically employment) would you have any suggestions? I am relatively new to this and find that with it being a fairly mundane niche, I am struggling to find legitimate links. We have published interesting content and posted youtube videos, but getting the links is proving a tricky task. Completely appreciate that this is tricky for everyone, but if you have any advice I would be really grateful. Many thanks in advance. Clojo

App Index Knowledge Graph Link
Hi Matt, You can get your app featured in the 'app carousel' if your device is in Google Play, but a knowledge graph box links to a website by its nature so I don't believe it's possible for it to link to an app instead.
