  • Hi Anshul.S, sorry to say that, but there is no way you'll ever get the exact same numbers in Salesforce vs GA. That's because Ga is tracking Goals based on JS which could be triggered several times even without a purchase. To give you some examples: an user could be refreshing the thank you page and you'll be getting multiple visits you may have a purchase of 100$, but then the person doesn't pay or cancel the order, it own't be real money. You are correct about integrating GA and salesforce, but you have to use salesforce to validate GA data which is mostly interesting for detailed analytical purposes not revenue or business ones, where the most reliable sourc eis your own DB. Regarding the source, I did this in the past, you want to ensure that you create your cookie in the same way Google is doing it. Consider that Google changes the source of traffic in case the session times out (more than 30mins) or if there is a change of source, ex. you serch in google enter the website, leave, then enter again using direct. Also ensure you're using the same attribution model Google uses. Last click, first click, etc etc Ensure that you're correclt carrying over the source in your cookie, by properly QAing.   • I would NOT replicate this linking pattern for your client's websites. In the long run, it could do more damage than good. I will save you the long explanation, but it's just not a good long term strategy. Do the things you know are right, and not the things that could pose a risk in the future. For small businesses, the easiest way to combat companies that use BS linking strategies is to look at the TOTAL health of one of your client's websites. This would include keyword density testing, a complete citation profile analysis (using Moz Local or Yext), domain choice, on-page health, page load speed, etc. Basically everything that Google says matters, and do it to a "T". Beat them with quality quantity, not by replicating the same tactics.

  • Thank you Joshua for your additional reply and insights, may I ask you what are your two mentioned specific word phrases you wrote above about? Just curious, because those could be "brand" related keywords like "Virtual Sheet Music" or "Classical Sheet Music Downloads" which are both our own trademarks, therefore they should be considered as "natural"... you know what I mean. As for our affiliate links, yes, those are the URLs I am concerned about. I was thinking to 302 redirect those instead than 301, but I am afraid also to lose a big deal of juice from them by doing that, even though I am aware that Google could have already discounted those links at some extent, but I am not sure how much, and I don't want to risk losing that little juice that could help us with rankings if not really needed. So, my choice would be to leave things how they are, and, yes, as you are suggesting, start building more "link-baits" to have more natural links, but as you know, that takes time... I am eager to know your thoughts about my points above. Thank you!

  • Well, I worked with the developer that contracts with this client and here's what he put in the .htaccess file (domain replaced with "domain"). It did the trick. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^m.domain.com RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/sitemap.xml$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/robots.txt$ RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [R=301]

  • It makes no difference, as long as they are viewed as separate accounts. If you have sites running out of directories of other sites then this can cause problems if the domain settings are not correct. Basically, make sure each account has its own Cpanel account, and you should be good to go. If they share the same IP address it makes no difference. If you are super worried about this, then I would assign a separate IP address for each account if you have WHM access.

Whether you’re familiar with anchor text or not, if you’ve spent any time on the Internet, you’ve seen it a million times. Anchor text is the keyword or keyword phrase that serves as the link to another web page or web site. Anchor text is typically highlighted like this: anchor text (if you click this example, another window will open up that contains our other blog http://bluecorona.wordpress.com). Anchor text is important because it gives web site visitors (and search engines) a hint about the web page or web site they are about to visit (if they click the link). This is why you DON’T want to use common calls to action like, “click here” or “our website.” Instead, you want to use keyword rich anchor text. If you’re having a contest to give away a free website makeover for the HVAC industry, make free HVAC website the anchor text! If thousands of web sites link to your site using the anchor text ‘leading residential furnace installers‘ there’s a good chance that you’re in the residential HVAC business and you install furnaces!

  • Hi, Thanks for your reply. I have Yoast SEO installed and can see the option to implement a canonical tag. It asks me to input a Canonical URL, with the description being "The canonical link is shown on the archive page for this term." Using the kangaroo example above, how will setting that Canonical URL help to provide me with separate page title elements for pages 1 and 2? At the moment the URL says www.blahblah.com/portfolio/kangaroos for page 1 and www.blahblah.com/portfolio/kangaroos/2 for page 2, but they both have the same page title of Kangaroo Portfolio | Domain. So I'm unsure what exactly I need to do in Yoast to differentiate the page title of page 2 from page 1 to remove the duplicate page title error I'm getting. Thanks.

  • IMHO, if somebody is paying us for SEO, then our GOAL is to get the homepage to load in a second or less.... especially if most of the users are mobile.  If it's mid 1 second, then we can grudgingly live with that. I'm glad you asked about server response times.... for most sites, after the content is optimized ( smaller images, clunky code, etc...) the initial server response time is usually the culprit for getting over a second.... as long as the rest of the home page is "light".  Light to us is under 1MB.  Depending on your CMS, there are a variety of ways to get the response time to be 200ms or less. Google Pagespeed, as David said, is a good measurement, but it's not the holy grail of measurements.  We use it only to identify areas that need improvement.  Waterfalls tell us what's taking so long and what's heavy. You didn't ask about plugins - which is a major culprit to caching, minify errors, conflicts, speed and weight.  We limit all active plugins to TEN (including caching, SEO, security).  For some sites, plugin clean up is the easiest way to speed up a site. At the end of the day, nothing beats clean code, light images and a lightening fast server.
