  • Hi This is how I'm doing that: Check topics/base keywords that fit your website/company niche. Check top10 competitors with those topics and copy their websites. Use semrush.com (ahrefs.com, majestic.com too or similar to them showing traffic stats) to find the keywords each website ranks. Do the same with base keywords to find more of them. Make a sheet (or upload and combine) with them. Don't forget to leave search volume and keyword difficulty score. Sort by searches and difficulty. Pick what you think is good and adequate to your niche/company. Make another sheet (number of keywords can be hundreds but no worry about) Check in your serpmachine (any that can check positions for desired city/country) if you're already ranking for those selected keywords (probably not or way below top10). Combine serps, urls, searches, keyword difficulties into next sheet (or add columns to that second sheet created). Decide what to choose. Rest is about writing content, building links and so on... but you'll get nice keyword list with good searches per month you want right? Krzysztof

  • Q: The example I gave earlier "www.domain.com/greeting-cards/occasions/birthday-cards/" would this be considered keyword stuffing if I am targetting the keyword "birthday cards"? A: Absolutely not. If you saw a real keyword stuffed URL you'd probably laugh out loud at the fact that people are still writing URLs like www.bluewidgets.com/widgets/blue-widgets/best-blue-widgets/top_blue_widget.html . Your example is just a clear URL representation of the structure of your site. Q: Keeping in mind this taxonomy would it be better for my URLs to follow this pattern instead? www.domain.com/greeting-cards, www.domain.com/occasions, www.domain.com/birthday-cards? A: That depends. Are birthday cards a form of greeting cards? Are occasions just a way to categorize greeting cards by occasion? If so, they should probably go under the /greeting-cards/ directory. Q?: All of our product pages have URLs formatted as follows /product/product-name. A: Good. I'd keep them like that. You don't need category folders in the product URL.

  • Hi Britney,  my plan would be to put at the end of the page about 5 small unobstrusive links to 5 different relevant affiliate sites. Thanks for pointing to the case study, which was very interesting and gives hope that if we would suffer penalization by google we could recover fast by just removing the links.

  • Hi there! Solid question! This is likely stemming from the fact that sites like YouTube and Pinterest are absolutely massive. Since we aim for our link index to show results from large numbers of sources and not get diluted by all of the millions of links from enormous sites, we limit the number of pages crawled on each domain to ~50,000. As a result, there could certainly be links on those domains pointing to your site that we're not reporting on because they are buried deeper within the site structure than the links to your competitors. I hope this helps to explain! Feel free to hit me up with any further questions or concerns!

  • Thanks Martjin, the first site does use href lang tags but we want to lower the profile of that site in the USA and pass some link juice from it to the new USA website.

  • Hi Simon Just so you know, this won't really cause a big problem in terms of Google and rankings or your site performance. There's two things you can do: 1. In Yoast SEO, go to Titles & Meta -> Other - and check off 'Noindex subpages of archives' - this will prevent subpages from even getting in Google in the first place. 2. You can set unique titles for subpages by using the %%page%% variable. Go to Titles & Meta -> Taxonomies and under Categories, Tags etc - do something like: %%tag%% %%sep%% %%sitename%% %%page%% %%page%% will output something like 'Page 2 of 4' Hope that helps! -Dan PS - Really nicely done wedding photos!
