Domain Transition: Moving over paid traffic campaigns first
Hey, I'm thinking about the basic things. First of all - Google won't take you seriously if you just have a couple of pages, which are new to his eyes, and with no links. More content (dofollow) will immediately mean that it sees you're trying to make an impact. + better chances of backlinks, shares. + better traffic since you have more pages. All of these would show Google that you're the real deal.

Using Temporary Redirects for Ecommerce Categories?
Hi Kate I work with a lot of eCommerce companies and when a category is essentially in limbo - between seasons where stock may be re-bought then I keep it live. To simply redirect to another unrelated page is not, in my opinion the best result for the customer. If a customer is searching for Levis (just an example) and you don't have any then why would he want to end up on a generic Jeans page or another brand? The best result is that they see you are out of stock. You could even just put a message on that page saying - Sold Out - stock arriving soon or something like that. (Get the buying plans off the buyers! - they know what is on order for the next 6-9 months!) The page will remain and get repopulated once stock arrives. If the category is simply out of stock never to return then I would consider redirecting to a higher category - but if it was a brand I may still leave the page as being sold out. (The alternative here is to allow it to 404 so the page disappears all together from SERPs - but then style your 404 page so that they can follow a menu of alternatives). The last thing you want is a potential customer going round in circles trying to find the brand because you have redirect them somewhere else. So a message like 'We are out of stock of Levis right now but check out these other awesome brands - with a menu' is perfectly fine and a better User Experience (UX) By creating the best UX you are far more likely to please your buyers and frankly a few pages of skinny content is not going to kill you in SERPS - you have a perfectly valid reason. Watch Rand's video on alternative methods but I would do this. Regards Nigel

Rank Tracking URLs from specific locations
Hey There! Yes, you can set URL tracking via neighborhood or zipcode in Moz Pro. The one thing is, the results of this type of tracking will show you the pages that rank highest from that locale. We can't necessarily pair it with one particular landing page, as we will just pull in the page that is ranking highest for the keyword, but there is definitely this more localized option available. I should also add the proviso here that, in some cases, you may only be able to narrow the search down to the city instead of drilling down to the zip or neighborhood. You can read more about this here: https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/add-and-manage-keywords/local-keywords https://moz.com/blog/local-rankings-in-moz-analytics Hope this helps and that you'll give it a try!

Best practice for local keyword ranking in URLs
Hey Alex, I want to be sure I'm understanding this fully. Some questions: Is artificial grass the main product your business sells? If that's right, are you saying that your domain name is something like Alexs.com instead of AlexsArificialGrass.com? And if that's right, are you asking if your landing pages should look like alexs.com/country/city/artificialgrass instead of just alexs.com/country/city? Or, something else? And, finally, I'm curious about the use of a country name in your URLs. Do you have offices in more than one nation?

GMB listing not showing for local searches
Hi Bee, So, yes, this definitely looks like Possum. When I search Google Maps for "Yacht Broker Port Adriano Spain" I see that there are numerous similar business in this location and that when I zoom in on the map, Marlin Marine Services does appear. So, a listing does exist for this business, but it simply isn't being judged by Google to be deserved of showing at a non-zoomed-in level. So, this brings us right back to my earlier comment regarding the need to do competitive research to discover the top competitor's strengths and your client's weaknesses so that you can create a plan for improvement. Hope this helps!

Is it worth it to compete with a big competitor starting from scratch?
Hey Frank, In this case it's a no-brainer. If things are just duplicate and then rotated around, it's clear that content can't be THAT qualitative. In this case I certainly think that going for it, and creating the kind of content that's absolutely the best. This way, you'll get a much more natural growth, Google will pick up on it and even if your domain is lower DA, you can rank better than him for certaim keywords for which you write really good content.

Company with different branches: Generic Keywords & Localized Keywords: Best practise?
Hey Cesare, Ideally, what you want is: A strong homepage that gives an overview of your company A strong page for each of your core services offerings A strong page for each of your branches. Your "Contact Us" pages can and should have unique, strong content on them with a bit of effort, and as these are your landing pages for your branches, no effort should be spared here. What can go on these pages? Please read: https://moz.com/blog/overcoming-your-fear-of-local-landing-pages and then let me know if you have any further questions.

Link buildig to take affect
Hi there, Thanks for the question. It's almost an impossible one to answer exactly because no one truly knows what goes on behind the scenes at Google. But we can assume that for an average site, Google probably discovers new links pretty quickly and you can check this by seeing if the page where the link is located is indexed and cached. In terms of then that link "counting" - it's hard to say but from experience of working on various link building campaigns, we typically see improvements between 1-2 months after the first links went live. BUT there are some caveats to point out: I've worked on campaigns where great links haven't had any effect at all because of some other underlying issue such as a penalty or technical issue. One-off link campaigns with no consistency don't always have an effect in the long term. The best campaigns I've worked on have generated links over the course of many months I hope that helps a bit - sorry that I can't give an exact answer but can only speak from experience. Cheers. Paddy

70 sites on one instance/server negative for SEO?
Hi Wozniak65 It's a very strange and outdated approach. If they really want to go down the route of promoting each store individually then far better to build one central website and have a page for each store location. They could then use local citations for each of the locations that the store is in. It's not so bad for the SEO them being on the same server it is the fact that most of the content across the 7- websites will be duplicate content with only the location different. This would effectively kill each of the sites from an SEO point of view before anything else. Considerations: 1. Acres of duplicate content 2. The immense amount of work involved to build 70 websites 3. The immense amount of work required to keep all of those sites up to date. 4. The central company information will be the same for all 70 stores presumably. 5. The ip address of the server will be the same for all 70 stores. It's like having 70 micro-sites for the same company. For me it's huge no no Google Panda released in 2011 directly targeted skinny sites with low value content in favour of well written, well constructed content rich and engaging sites. I honestly think you should press them to go back to the drawing board in favour of a one site/multi-location solution. Regards Nigel - Carousel Projects

Is Search Visibility actually weighted by search volume at all? Everyone seems to think so, but that seems completely wrong?
If the question is about the "visibility" of a page for a specific keyword then visibility does not need to be weighted by volume. But, if you are asking about the visibility of a page or a website for a basket of keywords, expressed as a single number, then keyword query volume becomes important.

Retargeting Providers in Healthcare
Jeremy- I recommend the Facebook ad network. if you're trying to avoid social, you can use the Facebook ad network, although the quality there tends to be weak. Maybe try Adroll.com also. I haven't used them in years, but when I did, they were able to tap into many of the networks through one platform.

Deep linking with redirects & building SEO
Set up Canonical tags and use Google's UTM codes to track your non-internal links (as your internal links will be tracked just fine by Google Analytics without any need for using redirects). https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en https://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
