  • Thanks, Donna. My plan is to not have a knee-jerk reaction to this, and as you say, just see how things play out over the next week or so. Many thanks for your response - I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Marielle, That Moz or other external tools don't show external links to your website doesn't mean a lot actually. They don't have a 100% coverage of the entire web for sure and things don't happen immediately. It takes time...They don't/can't crawl the web the same way e.g. Google does, so their view will always be incomplete. They actually say that they focus on quality rather than quantity.... It depends on the the country (TLD: .nl?, .com?, ...), importance/popularity of the linking website/your site, etc. Look it up on The Google Search Console - Search Traffic - Links to your Site. I guess you will be able to see the linking sites earlier or later there but again this could take time. Google hast to crawl the linking website - connect it to your site and show it on Google Search Console. This can easily take weeks to happen. Cheers, Cesare

  • Hey there, The same-language relevant-content backlinks are by far more valuable. You can grab a couple high DA links with less relevancy, even diff languages, as long as it's not in an extremely spammy way or overdone. Ex - the article is about mountain passes in Russian and suddenly you link to your site saying "Buy cheap laptops". Usually try to only link to your domain with no specific anchor text other than the domain name ex: MOZ.com .This way it can provide some value, but not look spammy. The key is not to do stuff that Google can track as a spam pattern and penalise you. Everything else can be helfpul.  Have a look at this rather older but still very much true / valid Whiteboard Friday vid: https://moz.com/blog/high-value-tactics-futureproof-link-building-whiteboard-friday Hope this helps

  • Hi Roderick, From experience, this is quite hard to shake a keyword off a homepage and onto another that isn't ranking without physically removing that keyword the homepage - which comes with great risk. I wouldn't advise doing that on it's own, as it won't necessarily mean that  your new page (although more relevant for that term) will start ranking in its place - it may just result in you not ranking at all. Your homepage will naturally have a higher PA than the sub-page with more links built to it and in Google's eyes, may look more relevant. You'll need to make sure that you cover the topic from all angles to tell Google that the sub-page is more relevant for that term. For example, using internal linking with that anchor text throughout your site going to that page and not the homepage. You'll then need to back this up with external links. Use Moz's backlink anchor text checker to pull all external links that have been built that go to the homepage and contact them to ask them to change it to the more relevant page. As to how long it can take is a 'how long is a piece of string' question. It depends how quickly you can make the above changes and how long it takes Google to recrawl any other links. I hope that gives you a good start for what you can do to take action. Kelly

  • If you are using hidden pages to manipulate google, yes this is very black hat. You should only no index pages that you do not want to come up in search results. Examples would be a thank you page after filling out a contact form, a login page, and shopping carts.

  • Of course every single area is not going to be listed so the best way would be to search for the closest nearby city - in this case Sydney and adjust by population, So if Sydney had 10,000 searches for carpet cleaning and 20x higher population than Manly then one would assume a search volume around 500. The assumption being that the search will not differ so greatly for towns and cities in close proximity. I hope that helps Regards Nigel

  • Hi Jack, If you pick a subfolder to track for your campaign, we will be limited to only crawling pages that exist in that specific subfolder. For better results, you may try entering the root domain. We will crawl any links on your site that we can find, and if you need to look a particular subfolder you can always filter the data. I hope that helps!

  • Hey, I have used the SEO Tools Centre but it doesn't worth the efforts. It is a basic tool which change the original concept of the writing. For example, in able to change the words by the synonyms, it wouldn't focus on maintaining the meaning of the context. However, there are several other tools which words for free but gives an amazing piece of paraphrased content. You can opt to Paraphraser.io as it works on the basics of artificial intelligence and Natural language processing to make your content in the best form.

  • I think it depends on what you wish to accommodate on the screen. We have adopted a more mobile based design from 300 to 767 which makes certain items more prominent or vertically aligned and then from 768 up to 1600+ is our dedicated "all elements" visible desktop version. That way our desktop style generally works on the majority of tablets and larger screen sizes where more data easily easier to absorb. Hope that helps.

  • Hi There URL length is not used as a ranking factor. The guideline is that they mustn't be overly long without reason, otherwise they can look spammy. If your URLs are: Site/Category/Sub-Category/Brand/Product Name Then I see no problem whatsoever. MOZ didn't used to warn on URL length - I generally ignore it and tell my clients not to worry about it. Regards Nigel

  • It might be affecting your domain authority, but I would be more worried about those pages negatively affecting your rankings if the large number of pages are creating a poor UX due to a complicated navigation structure or if users are having difficulty finding the content they want. Overall I would say a general rule of thumb should be: does this content serve a purpose and provide value to our visitors? If the answer is no, then I would 301 to a page that provides value. If it's yes, I would keep the page.

  • We are just optimizing our business with different local branches and are going to add according json-ld schema markup for that shortly, so we are facing similar questions... Honestly I think that this particular setting will have a minor impact. I would go for Denver instead of USA. By the way the could also come from outside the USA... People will search for "hotel Denver" or just "hotel" if they are already in Denver. To do Google My Business the right way, i.e. clean up all unclean NAP citations if there are some is probably more effective. Maybe you could add Denver also in Google My Business company name... I know its not 100% clean and not adhering to their terms but I always got away with it. Moreover different people at Google's My Business support who noticed that during calls regarding other thinks mentioned it but said that it was OK like this. Its a rather strong signal and works very well actually...
