  • Turns out I didn't need the sitemap. I just needed more time. Google crawled and indexed everything as I expected, but it took longer than I expected.

  • I would say it depends on your specific category.  If your category is broken into dozens of subcategories and then has multiple pages, probably not.  If your category page is only page one, or has some pagerank or a good MozRank, then yes.  There are some subpages in Yahoo that aren't even indexed in Google, which is absurd for 300/year.

  • Barry Schwartz has written about the last part (when it's not a DMOZ listing) at http://www.seroundtable.com/google-title-selection-12989.html. There have also been several comments in Q&A about Google not using either the site's title tag or the DMOZ entry for the title in the SERP.

  • Hi Jimbo, A return in an Error 500 could be because the request you placed went over a certain limit in place.  Most likely due the amount of links pointing at nz.yahoo.com is the reason you got the error.   I would suggest you email out help team if you are experience any further problems, at help@seomoz.org. • Hi Ben. Have you checked to see the articles themselves have been indexed by Google? In other words using the site:search or the article title in ""? If they are indexed and you are looking for the links themselves i.e. link: then it is probably because Google doesn't show everything, just a sample of links pointing to your site. If you use Open Site Explorer or MajesticSEO you will get more reliable link figures, but again you should bear in mind that OSE and MSEO don't contain the entire web so may not have picked the links up yet either.

  • Have you thought about incorporating video into your message. This is a great way to keep the visitor on the site and have them do what you want them to do, like fill out a form, go to another page, etc. Video combined with autoplay, works great. After seeing many tests done on autoplay, it actually works. Anyways, suggesting that you add video was a bit off topic, but I thought I'd suggest it.

  • Hi Mark, In the case of title tag keywords, less is more. The most value is assigned to the first few keywords in the title. If your website is selling apples and you found a niche opportunity with the granny variety in CA, your homepage title tag should look something like: Granny Apples CA | Your Company.com | Are your green apples safe to eat? Note the following: Keywords come first Your company name (branding) comes second Promotional copy comes last but still includes keywords If you want to target cities in CA, it would make sense to make separate, unique landing pages that offer value. You can use cities and state abbreviations in those title tags. You don't want to devalue the strength of your home page's title tag. Keep it short and to the point, focusing on your main keyword target. Here's a great best practices guide for title tags. Just a reminder: click-through rate is very important...keyword stuffing a title tag may "cover your bases" for more keyword targets, but it could be turning away visitors.

  • Michael, if you got hit with on the 24th of february, this was the Panda algorithm update. First, if you sure that your content is 100% unique and a high quality site? i would go to http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&start=800 This thread is dedicated to people that have a high quality site that has been negatively affected by this change. a Google employee will look closer . On the other hand, the stuff you can do to help your site are (this is my opinion, still webmasters and SEOs trying to figure our how they can get out or what are the criteria that triggered the panda update on their site) Trustworthy UI (user interface). your website is old (it looks like an old 1). see if there is a possibility to make a new site built on a robust CMS. site speed

  • Unfortunately, there are no specifics any of us could give you in that regard. The results (number of visitors) you'll get from x number of links depends on many factors, including your keywords, onsite optimization, link quality, etc. The best way you could estimate would be to take each keyword and determine: How many exact match searches are their on Google for this keyword each month? If we achieve a #X ranking, what CTR could we expect? The answer to those two questions will tell you how many visitors you might expect from the keyword. Then you'll need to analyze your competitors keywords and estimate how many and what type of links you'll need to achieve the ranking you want. Together, that will give you a very rough estimate of how much traffic you might expect from your link building efforts.

  • When I looked at your site, changing the criteria changed the listings on the page, so each page was unique. However, I'm guessing 100% of the listings can be accessed by just clicking through the pages of results without changing the criteria? If you decide the best approach is to block the different versions of search results pages, I would consider using the canonical meta tag to specify the canonical (main) version of the page.
