  • This is an interesting idea.To maximize your SEO benefits I would: Make the image link back to the post on my site not the image itself. Provide an alt attribute for the image tag Provide a title attribute for the link Image links have less value then text links.  How much benefit will this stategy really give you is tough to quantify. It depends on how many sites are republishing content from your RSS feed, what the quality of those sites are and how relevant the are to your site's industry. Having the image link back to a post on your site has the added benefit that if someone reads a post on another site on in their RSS feed and clicks the image they'll be taken to your post.  Every additional visit to your site is a chance to capture another new reader. Images don't have a ton of value.

  • Sites that work hard at Web Accessibility often reap large SEO benefits. If you think about it, search engine crawlers have a pretty limited view of any give web page.  They can't see the images.  They work mostly by indexing text strings and ignoring large components of any web pages presentation. There's a ton of simple tips for accessibility that help with SEO.  For instance, add captions to your images and create navigational components out of HTML lists. Google's SEO Guide touches on Accessibility The W3C has Accessibility Guidelines for HTML which is also worth reading.

  • Ryan, Why do you say z-indexing is a blackhat trick?  I use it for my float bar on a few of my pages just to keep it on top, and it moves with the scrolling of the page.  I'm not hiding anything with it.

  • I think it depends on what the redesign consists in. For example a competitor of one of my clients has just redesigned their site but the difference is the old site had more relevancy to a specific keyword where as now the redesign is a general page that doesn't have as much relevancy to the specific keyword. The result was a drop in rankings. So if you're a simple site with little content or poor structure it's a good thing to redesign... if it's the other way around where you focus more on design and not on content (SEO) i think you will have a drop in rankings

  • If you're looking for a transcription service, check out www.rev.com. We think we offer the best combination of quality and speed at a very low price. Many companies out there use Amazon's mechanical turk, which results in low quality.  We have a dedicated workforce of trained freelancers, which lets us deliver high quality.  Call us up if you have any questions!

  • I will be syndicating content via ezinearticles.com. I am also looking into demand media. You brought up a good point though. I don't want my articles from those content sites to compete with my own. By taking a look at my PA, DA, DmT, mR and all metrics, I need to build DA the most. So the articles I will write are not for my main keywords on the homepage. Instead the articles will have embedded links pointing to subcategories instead of the home page. For some reason my home page PA is 45 while DA is 35. Any thoughts? By the way, thanks for helping a mozzer out. You're going to be my new mentor. Cisco

  • If you feel you need to do this regardless of language, run a PHP if/then script looking for browser language.  Based on the language you can then set the 301 right in the script loop. Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" ); Header( "Location: http://www.matchware.com/yourlanguagefolder/" ); ?> My question though is why would you not have at least one language be the default, and have that at the root home level (www.matchware.com/)

  • I discovered recently that you can control the blog page appearance in your profile settings, and view just snippets if you'd like for the SEOmoz and YOUmoz blog pages. I prefer the snippets myself. I haven't gone geeky and looked at how it's presented to the bots.

  • From my testing (and I do a fair bit of that) I conclude that links still outweigh every other signal. Though it would make perfect sense that newly introduced hints steal a bit of link graph's glory until it's put in a fair place with everything else. I notice Matt Cutts still talks about links a great deal in his videos which confirms my view that links are still going strong. What puzzles me is how strongly they treat exact anchor text, when in natural world we rarely see it happen, it's usually click here, or read more or just plain website address. This is the area I believe needs fixing sooner than others. Back to the original topic... once links stop being a super-signal content and function will rule.

  • It depends upon how much authority your primary domain has.  If only a little then go with the KW.com.  But if the primary domain has a lot of authority then the KW.com will need a lot of links to beat it.

  • I don't think there is, the closest I can come up with would be the BBB or the VeriSign, but again these are more for users than for SE.

  • Thanks for the replies! I'll go ahead and let the links pass power with a proper disclosure on the page. If it all goes south I'll post an update here.
