  • Hi Jacob, Experts have been writing about the declining importance of exact match domains for many years (those two articles are both from 2012). In general, if you already had a setup like the one you are proposing, there's a good chance we would be recommending consolidating the domains. You might also be interested in this whiteboard Friday. Good luck - hope something there helps.

  • Hi there Bryce, what an unusual problem to have, Facebook is normally all too happy to take our money! So I don't know all of the details, forgive me if I'm off the mark here, but is the budget incredibly high? Is it daily or lifetime? And what action are you being charged for? Is it cost-per-impression? Otherwise (no offence meant) could it be that the audience aren't being swayed to action by your creative? I know there is a way of capping frequency on Facebook ads, if it is CPM, there's no way you have that switched on is there? Is it possible that some aspect of your advert is causing Facebook to limit reach (text-heavy image or low quality score for example)? Also, how long have you left each of these tests running? Apologies if this is all retreading old ground, I would expect the rep to come up with a lot of these, but got to go through the old off-and-on-again routine with these things first.

  • Yup, that makes sense to me. It's a bit of a grey area and an unusual case, but I think that this approach makes more sense - otherwise you're actively trying to stop people who aren't in the 'correct' country for a phone number to find/access that page.

  • We have never had to nofollow internal links within any of our websites, I am sure their are some circumstances where you could, but since Google's algorithm no longer "penalizes" links I don't see a need to as they are simply ignored. Just avoid spammy tactics like having 100 links under the footer or a bunch of affiliate links, etc.

  • You're welcome. You do not want to include hreflang="x-default" tags for the specific language pages (whether in the sitemap or the code). You only want to include the x-default tag on non-language specific 'default' pages (for example, a default page that prompts the user to select a language or country). Here is a description from Google on their use of this particular tag: "The new x-default hreflang attribute value signals to our algorithms that this page doesn’t target any specific language or locale and is the default page when no other page is better suited." • Are you referencing the sitemap link at the bottom of a lot of older websites? Typically those links lead to a page with links to every page on the website. This is more a of a tactic to better navigation purposes. Is this correct? To answer your question, good question! I would be interested to hear what others say as well.

  • I personally use spyfu for ppc related research only, and moz for seo monitoring/optimization. The keyword grouping feature in moz helps organize the themes of ad groups. Most software related to ppc automation and optimization will charge you based on how much you spend for advertising each month. They often bait you with a 30 day trial so that they can have access to your ppc data and see how much you are spending. If you are in a time crunch, I'd check out several free trials and see which one works best for you. The best that I have seen or used for this is adstage.io which allows you to connect all of your socials and ppc accounts and monitor their performance in one central place. You can also set up conditional rules to optimize campaigns based on the criteria you prefer.

  • mmm it depends. it's really hard for me to answer without knowing your site but I would say that you're in the good direction. You want to provide google more ways to reach your quality content. Now do you have any other page that is bringing bots there via a normal user navigation or is it all search driven? While google can crawl pages that discovered via internal/external links it can't reproduce searches by typing in your nav bar, so I doubt those pages should be extremely valuable unless you link to them somehow. In that case you may want to keep google crawling them. A different thing would be if you want to "index" them, as being searches they are probably aggregating different information already present on the site. For indexation purposes you may want to keep them out of the index while still allowing the bot to run through them. Again beware of the crawl budget, you don't want google to be wandering around millions of search results instead of your money pages, unless you're able to let them crawl only a sub portion of that. I hope this made sense

  • Thank you, Matthew. It's strange that Google would not allow more control over what is being listed under the meta-description in rankings. I appreciate your feedback.

  • I try to use a CDN where possible to allow for faster delivery. one example of a CDN which is great for responsive imagery is Cloudinary, this is due to the dynamic way in which you can serve scaled images. Lazy load is also a benefit simply due to connection speeds etc and loading behind the scenes.

  • Alick3000 is correct. I would not strictly pursue getting nofollow links, but if there is an opportunity to get one and it could help with getting your brand name our there or driving referral traffic to your website, it definitely won't hurt! If you are also actively building links on a monthly basis, it is probably a good idea to have a few that are nofollow in your link profile
