How can I change my website's content on specific pages without affecting ranking for specific keywords?
Hi Karen. I can appreciate your desire to keep your #1 ranking, and not make any changes to the page. Your fears are valid as any "improvements" you make to the page can impact your ranking. It's a tough spot. Google wants to provide users with the best experience, but by making changes to improve that experience you risk the #1 spot. I took a look at your page and your SERP and have a concern. Your title in the results page shows as "Per Diem - Nursing news, career resources, RN jobs and nursing..."When I visit the actual page, the title is "Nursingvillage.com - Career Option". If that was a recent change, I would suggest it is a bad one and should be corrected. It would be a reasonable cause to lose your #1 ranking. A reasonable title for the page would be "Per Diem Nursing | Nursingvillage.com". The rest of your title would be best left for your meta description. As far as why you are ranking #1, the term "per diem nursing" only receives 3600 global searches per month according to AdSense. It's not that competitive. Compare that with the following keywords which receive more global monthly searches: nursing jobs - 1,000,000 nurse employment - 673,000 nursing job employment - 550,000 nursing positions - 301,000 jobs for nurses - 246,000 "Per diem nursing" is a long tail keyword phrase which is why you are ranking so well.

Doorway Page? or just a flawed idea?
If I am hearing you correctly, you're basically purchasing a typo domain name? Or one that could potentially infringe on another's digital assets? Seems like a whole lot of work to me.

What countries does Google crawl from? Is it only US or do they crawl from Europe and Asia, etc.?
Hi Keith, In my experience Google mainly crawls from the US. You're quite right, GeoIP redirection can cause major issues with indexation - as if you're redirecting everything from the US to the .com googlebot can't see the .co.uk site. As such, I'm not a fan. Rather than implementing a hard redirect I prefer Amazon's approach. If you visit the amazon.com site from a UK IP you get a javascript overlay that invites you to visit the .co.uk version of the site instead - they let the user decide which site to view rather than actually redirecting them. This is a nice solution as it ensures that the search bots can crawl both versions of the site, and rankings aren't endangered. I hope this helps, Hannah

Yet another Google Plus One question: Does it affect ranking for people that you are NOT connected to?
Would love to know the answer to this. My feeling is that the +1's do make a difference regardless of linkage of profiles.

Shared articles in the SERP's - who sees these shares?
So you wanted to know if they will show all shares and recommendations or just selected shares, etc? I haven't seen any shares that were "ignored", but of course how could you really tell anyways? I think if the SEOmoz staff wanted to try an experiment, they could look at the top 10 results for a single term and have a whole network of friends share those pages, then look at the results again and see if all of them have shares.

How would restructuring the navigation of my website affect my rankings?
Thanks Dan, My main concern is moving some of the links on the top menu of my website elsewhere and reducing the number of on-page links. My goal is basically to increase the link juice given to my more important pages, and have my other, less important pages, accessible from a deeper level within my website. I think this methodology follows the best practices - but, again, I am worried about any potential negative effects that can occur with the changes I want to implement.

SEOmoz iPhone App or Mobile Web App?
Will do, thanks Casey. In the meantime, I might just have to talk to an iOS developer friend of mine to have them whip something up. I'm picturing something like the 3rd party Basecamp apps, which should be relatively simple to build, and would help make checking rankings, crawl reports and Q&A's easier on the go.

Google+ and its effects on SERPs
I'm talking about having the +1 button on pages of your website - e.g. product pages (info here). If there have been a number of people +1 a particular product then that may help the position of that page organically - I think even if you aren't signed in. You wouldn't +1 at the SERP stage if you haven't been on the site but your friends might have done which could input into it. All guesses though

Page Title or Search Friendly Urls?
Titles definitely carry heavy weight with respect to ranking, where the weight of URLs is rather low with the exception of the domain name itself. To be clear, a page's title needs to be reinforced with on-page factors as well. Ideally the H1 tag of the page should be similar to your page's title, and the content should support the title.

What could be causing our rankings to drop?
As Ryan explains, since your rankings drop is not confined to one keyword it could be related to the Panda Update but I don't think that it hit the UK SERPs until April 11. more about the Panda Update timeline

Partial anchor text match definition of 2011 Search Engine Ranking Factors
Hi, thanks for your input. I am using the same strategy, but also putting stop words, like "in" between, in your example: "boots in red", "boots with the colour red", etc. I was only asking me if SeoMoz can provide more precise data for their term "partial anchor text match" .

Hidden H1 tag - ?permissable
Definitely not hide any heading tags! But what about advanced development techniques like tooltips and lightboxes? If you want to display a part of the page only on a certain user interaction? Would this impact your OnPage optimization negitively when the spider sees an html tag with a css property of hidden?

What schema would be best for a Q&A section of a website?
Hi Keri, I am also looking for schema to use for a question and answer site. The content is generated similarly to Yahoo Answers. Users will post both questions and answers and assign them categories. What schema should I use to ensure rich snippets in Google? Thanks!
