  • I appreciate your response and insight. It's very helpful. What makes this particular post so difficult is that it is a random subject that largely has nothing to do with the rest of our site. Which is part of the reason why we're so surprised it is so popular. It was unexpected, and I'm grateful for the surprise. However, it adds a layer of difficulty to channeling that energy to the rest of the site. Thanks, again.

  • Your site is being properly indexed, your pages are appearing as expected in Google SERPs and you see the cached pages but you do not see the header at the top of the cached pages which says "This is Google's cache of [url]. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on [date]". Is the above an accurate description of what you are seeing?

  • I was not pleased with Spyfu.  Though their Recon reports look great, as they provide data on how much you profit is to be had by ranking higher on certain terms. I am looking forward to using the SEOmoz reports and adding in Adgooroo's Tornado reports (which also supply missed profit) for clients.

  • It's an interesting article, what I don't get is why my rankings in Bing and Yahoo used to be completely or nearly identical, and then all of a sudden they aren't even close. Just seems odd to me.

  • Keep in mind that above the fold you have your site logo, persistent navigation, search box and other assets. I think that your ratio should be considered after the above is subtracted out. After that it depends upon presentation.  If the visitor is slapped in the face with two big ad blocks and has to scroll down to read content then that is too much.  However if ads are on the edges of the site and content is front an center than that is a lot better. Ad format can be considered too.  If your site is heavy with images then big image ads can compete with the content. My goal is to be sure that content is the most obvious thing within the design of the site and ads are subordinate. Would people want to link to ads or link to content.  Make sure that your presentation makes them linking to content. I have a high pagerank blog and link to informative sites every day.  I stopped linking to a couple very high profile sites that are household names when they started opening popups on my  visitor and having ads more obvious than content on their pages.

  • I sent this to my developer and his response was that he didn't get what was wrong with the refresh url. his response was: The is redirecting to http://mastermindtoys.com/store/nojavascript.html only in case if the JavaScript is disabled in the client browser. This is the right way to do it, I don’t understand  why this might be a problem, otherwise MM has to implement Noscript pages that have a real content. I didn’t get what’s wrong about accessibility. The code 200 means it is accessible, and yes there is nothing to access if JavaScript is disabled on browser. I think there are no modern retail sites that would do any sensible business with the scripting disabled in browsers.

  • Hi Jake! This sounds more like a question for the help desk as it may be a bug. Email them at help@semoz.org with this question, and they'll get back to you.

  • Well I know you can use Drupal with Oracle since version 7 now supports PDO, and there are even some modules out there to do the heavy lifting for you. However, for a blog Drupal is probably overkill. I would question your IT depts decision about not wanting to use MySQL/Wordpress before looking at using Drupal for just a blog. I've never used these lesser known CMS's, but you can try them out, they all work with Oracle db: ez publish, Mysource Matrix, Silverstripe, Typo3

  • I agree with Nicholas and Theo. A website's code should be clean and efficient. With that said, I'll specifically answer the question and say that No, the javascript you described will not have any negative impact on SEO except as it pertains to page loading speed. I would suggest using PageSpeed or a similar tool and track page loading efficiency. Trade with and without javascript enabled. If the difference is very small, then there is not any negative impact to SEO. If the difference is larger, then there COULD be an impact.

  • On page optimization is only one factor of achieving the organic results you are looking for.  The next thing I would ask is how authoritative the domain and individual pages are from a link perspective.  If you haven't run the OSE tool on your home page and individual stock pages you wish to rank then do that, because that will tell you how strong or weak your website is from a link perspective.  You'll want to look into a link building strategy and will work best for your business/website.  On page optimization can set the foundation for your SEO strategy but links is what will give you the lift.

  • Hey! I Cant believe that nobody has answered this... Yes I would say that any site with a mobile version should have a seperate sitemap for it, it does count and Google likes it as it makes it easier to crawl and index for them. Just make sure that: Your mobile sitemap ONLY contains URLs that serve mobile content (otherwise they get ignored). Make sure all URLs have the  mobile:mobiletag.</mobile:mobile> Have fun! Dan
