Any issues with lots of pages issuing 301 redirects?
Is there any issue with crawlers getting a lot of 301 redirects from a site? No. 301s are a normal part of the internet. A few tips: redirect pages to the equivalent page on the new site. Don't simply 301 pages to the home page. if you don't have any similar page, it is ok to allow a page to 404. Ensure your 404 page is helpful. You should ideally offer a search function along with your site's normal navigation so users can comfortably find a new page. try to perform redirects with the least amount of code possible. Depending on how your URLs are changing, it is possible to redirect thousands of pages with a single code snippet.

Views on PR - My complete U-Turn as of today...
Thanks, yeah the video says pretty much what I was thinking, that whilst PR isn't worth obsessing over, it is worth watching (i.e. as a sign of Google's reactions to stuff, such as penalties)... I stopped watching it all together about two years ago but it seems I need to start watching it again.

Mechanical Turk
I attended an SMX Advanced session on using crowdsourced tools, and there was a rep from Mechanical Turk there. They are well aware of SEOs and are active in monitoring the tasks that are written up.

Why do people try to get random pictures on the first page of reddit?
How are they Reddit pyjamas? There's no up or down arrows Pictures will almost only do well if it's a comic or hosted on imgur. AmAs are good because of the reason you mentioned. If it's a popular AmA then you can get a lot of traffic. News stories that make the front page can send hundreds of thousands of visits, but Redditors hate marketers with a passion, so you have to have a genuine story. Posting any old nonsense will just get you downboats.

On Page question
The noindex tag needs to appear in the HTML head of the page. I am not familiar enough with WP to say if that can happen as part of the default software, but my guess would be a SEO plugin may be necessary.

Apostrophes in keywords
This does seem to post a problem for SEO. Obviously on site everything wants to be spelt and punctuated properly, anything else looks amateurish. But when searching a majority of people don't bother with punctuation and are much more likely to just bash in childrens rather than children's, which means that sites who optimise for childrens will be ranked higher then those who punctuate words properly. I'd give a comparison on how many people use apostrophes when searching but infuriatingly Google Insights doesn't take apostrophes into account.

Youtube optimization - have you noticed anything new?
My advice is to make separate channels fro separate client, do not place clients videos on your channel because if you part ways it can get messy.

Used SEOMOZ top 100 Directories, my site ranking lowered, what can we do to fix this?
Do you think it could be something to do with the panda update? My clients are based in the US and Canada so I am not up-to-date on the Panda rollout status in Europe. Hopefully others can offer feedback on that topic.

Too many links on a page?
Is there a problem with having more than 100 links on a page? The 100 links per page threshold itself isn't a concern in and of itself. As Julie shared, it is an old standard and Google and other search engines are capable of crawling hundreds of links per page. The more links you offer, the more diluted each link becomes. What if you have a great article that you want to tell the world about, and then a below average article. You provide a link to both articles from the same page. Each article will receive the same amount of link juice. You may want to consider offering your older links by years instead of months. A user can click on the year and can be taken to the "2008 archive" page which then would offer links to all the months. It's up to you to determine what is best for your users and your site. By providing links with your current method, you are probably diluting your recent articles at the expense of old articles which users are less interesting in reading. Then again, perhaps your old articles are popular. Again, this decision is something you would want to evaluate based on how often your users are using the older links.

Multiple use of a YouTube video on site
Hi If the video is relevant to the content of the page, there will be no issues with this. I would just ensure there's unique content surrounding the link (or embed) on both pages. If you are linking to an amazing video, hopefully the benefits is that the user will be happy they found your site and share it! This is quite a small issue in the big world of SEO and nothing to really worry about.

Should I build links to the home page or a url containing the keyword?
My plan was to build 3 or 4 location pages for the locations we provide tech support for and target location based keyword Anchor text to these URL's e.g "Tech Support Brighton" and then for the home page build links that have the anchor text "Tech Support". A sound plan from a SEO perspective. The one caution I would mention is to be 100% consistent with your anchor text. It is especially important since your keywords are similar. Whenever "Tech Support Brighton" is used throughout your site, it should be an anchor text link to the appropriate page on your site. This method sends a clear signal to Google as to which page should rank for the term.

Different Countries, Same Site
Does anyone have any useful tips on how to have 2 different versions of the site targeting different locations but using very similar language (Probably would be considered duplicate) I would suggest the following approach: use mysite.com/us for the USA site and mysite.com/uk for the UK site. You can change the 2 letter designation as you deem appropriate. You could also choose to leave the uk site without a folder and use the /us folder for the United States. It's up to you to determine which method would communicate the options most clearly to your users. use flags at the top of the page to help users understand their option. An American flag for the US site, a British flag for the UK site, etc. use the language meta tags to differentiate your site's pages: EN-US, EN-GB be sure each version uses the correct monetary versions and measurements be sure each version uses the correct language. There is actually quite a bit of difference between the languages and readers from the US who have not previously read a UK site will often not understand the verbiage. A simple statement like "the prices are much dearer" is not understood by most Americans. use appropriate cultural references on each site. There are sayings and references commonly used in daily conversations which are different between each country, along with different laws. Be mindful of these differences. Use Google and Bing WMT to designate each section of your website as being specific for each country Use geo-targeting so users from each country automatically land on their country's page. Keep in mind occasionally you will have a UK user who wants to access the US site and vice-versa so I only advise geo-targeting for the initial visit and not forced throughout the entire visit. hosting in the UK is fine but consider a CDN or similar service which can serve images, videos and other content up faster to your visitors. By using the above methods, your content would not be considered duplicate. Search engines understand the same content is being customized for each locale and will present results accordingly.
