Moz Site Crawl can't index WIX sites
Hi there, Thanks so much for reaching out - Sam from Moz's Help Team here! I hate to be the bearer of bad news - I'm afraid that because Wix creates websites entirely with javascript this is an issue for our crawler and for SEO in general, so this is definitely the problem:(. This is a thread on our Q&A which talks about this issue: https://moz.com/community/q/negative-references-to-javascript-in-beginners-guide-to-seo-chapter-4#reply_330533 If your site is primarily Javascript, then the data you get back with regards to the crawl report won't be completely accurate because of this and we'll have a really hard time crawling in general, because our crawler functions by following html links. There's no real workaround that I can recommend for this one, since it is a technical limitation of our tools:(. While the tools and data that rely on our crawl of your site may not return the best results because of that Javascript, your keyword rankings and link profile should work just fine. You might also want to check out a few tools that are compatible with Javascript, like Botify or Screaming Frog. I'm really sorry I can't be of more help here; I'll definitely be sure to pass this along to our Product team as feedback on your behalf. Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with, or if there are any follow-up questions you might have!

I'm struggling with ranking for a really important keyword!
Hi John, It would be super helpful to the community if you can share the both the website you're referencing, as well as the exact keyword phrase you're trying to rank for. Also, please let us know if you're aiming for local or organic rankings. Without this information, I'm afraid we can only make random guesses, which aren't going to be helpful to your specific scenario.

Why i my site not ranking
The site looks nice on the whole, from just quickly clicking on the link. I can see the Meta Title is the company name and then the search term. Personally I would feature the search term at the start and then the company name after. I would also suggest having some content on the home page above the fold utilising the search term you feel it most important. Using the SEO Moz, Page Grader is a great way of going through and optimising page by page. The main problem personally that I think your going to be faced with is competition. I have this issue a lot when a customer purchases a new website from us. Some people think it's like opening a shop and your going to get a lot of footfall. Once the site is finished, you need to market it like crazy. Or it will be a very slow burn. If I was you, I would add more content through out of the website. Optimise the meta data and important tags across the site, as you have already dealt with speed. Then run some Adwords to get more traffic to the website while the Organic listings build up naturally. It will be very difficult in this type of industry without investing money in a variety of methods of marketing is my personal opinion. I hope it goes well for you.

Need Help - Lost 75% Of Traffic Since May 2018
Hi Tyler - Thanks for the response. I definitely know what you are saying. When we purchased this competitor, it was many different products (over 10 years ago) and gradually we added our products. This site normally does a couple million US each year, which is why redirecting it wasn't even something we thought about, and don't want to think about...and for almost 10 years everything was fine. I focused on unique descriptions, we had unique reviews and unique QA, all user generated...different for each of the two sites. But as I mentioned above, some issues happened during our migration, and with a former employee. I want to get it back to where it was, which I believe is possible. I guess I am wanting to see if anyone sees any other potential issues too.

Number of topics
Topics of a webpage but your answers seems to answer my question. Go in depth in a few topics seems to be better than to cover many topics but without going in depth.

Do we lose Backlinks and Domain Authority of URL when we change domain Name?
Do we lose backlinks and domain authority when we change domain name? Assuming your site structure, file and folder names, and content remain the same and you do 301 redirects then no, you would not lose backlinks and domain authority. You should also: benchmark key metrics (for example, site speed and rankings); update internal links (don't forget about your non-html pages as well); check for and fix and redirect chains; tell Google (via Search Console) that your domain name has changed; set up new properties in GSC (www, non-www, http, https), set your preferred profile and geography, and eventually merge profiles into a set; transfer your disavow file in GSC; track 404 errors (that could indicate you've missed some files) and customize your 404 page to help visitors that encounter them as a result of your domain name change; update any external URLs with UTM codes that point to your site (UTM codes get stripped with redirects); update your domain name in Google Analytics; update your sitemap and add to GSC as well as your robots.txt file; I usually update major sites that point to me as well, things like Google Maps, local data aggregators, and social media sites; and check your traffic, rankings, and GSC daily for a while so you can react quickly if something's amiss. Unfortunately, it is rarely the case that only your domain name changes in which case you'll need to a page-by-page mapping. Don't forget about images and PDF files that may be indexed separately from HTML pages. Check out this slide presentation (https://www.slideshare.net/bastiangrimm/migration-best-practices-smx-london-2018) from SMX London 2018. It was recommended by John Mu at Google and is really useful.

Former tenant Google Map listing still displays
Hi Kevin, Very sound questions. Google's way of dealing with this is the permanently closed label. There are businesses all around me that shuttered years ago and are still searchable, but bear this label. So, at least for the present, this is what they feel is an adequate solution to the fact that businesses close. Google does make some efforts to hide permanently closed listings, but they are still discoverable if a user searches for the name + the old location. What can be a problem is when businesses don't actually close, but simply move from an old location to a new one. When they do this, there are steps they should take to avoid having their old location labeled as "closed" because some studies have indicated that this can harm their future rankings at the new location if they continue to use the same phone number as was used at the old location, as well as signalling to customers that the company may have gone out of business. If you own retail properties with tenants who move rather than closing, a nice thing to do for them would be to teach them how handle GMB so that they don't end up with that "permanently closed" listing. I outline how to do this in the "permanently closed" section of this blog post: https://moz.com/blog/delete-gmb-listing Might be something to bookmark for future reference!

The most efficient anchor text distribution technique
I'm of another point of view. If done wisely link building brings good. I've been using this pattern for a long time and it worked very well. None of my websites were penalized. That's why I'm convinced that such a distribution does not hurt rankings but I was wondering may be someone is using another scheme that performs better.

Moving pages to new domain
Hello James, I would advise you to make the new pages as close to the old ones as you can, meaning that you would use the same content and try to keep a similar file structure, including product names. Then make sure every one of your old product URLs has a 301 redirect to the new one on the new site. Also redirect the home page, category pages, and other indexed pages of the old site to their corresponding pages on the new site. Follow that up with some sort of catch-all redirect that ensures every other possible URL someone might end up on from the old site goes to the new site. How to do a successful domain migration is beyond the scope of this Q&A format. You should read the following, which will give you a better understanding of the process and things to look out for. And yes, despite what Kevin said, you can move rankings from one domain to another. I've done it many times. There will be a lag of a few weeks to a month, even if you do it right, but eventually Google figures out what has happened. https://moz.com/blog/website-migration-guide https://searchengineland.com/site-migration-seo-checklist-dont-lose-traffic-286880 http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/website-migration-seo-checklist/
