Reasonable to Ask URL of Link from SEO Providing New Links before Link Activation?
Hi Alan, If they're not willing to share their link/outreach targets with you, I would steer clear of them. What they're saying about it being their 'intellectual property' is complete rubbish. At the end of the day, the site they're building links to is your business and it should be in your best interest to ensure that links that are being built to the website are of high quality. It sounds like they're being unnecessarily shady. Find yourself an SEO that is transparent and working **with you **to create a solid link acquisition strategy, not working in isolation and secrecy. All the best, Sean

I'm doing a crawl analysis for a website and finding all these duplicate URLs with "null" being added to them and have no clue what could be causing this.
Hi there, This looks to be something to do with a URL generator that is dynamically creating URLs based on certain categories being present. The downside being that those categories look to have been removed, hence the 'null' values being passed through. I would push this back to your developers as a serious issue, there could be a large amount of duplication occurring if you're not careful. All the best, Sean

Specific page does not index
Hi There, First Question: There are robots.txt files in these locations, however both don't reference a disallow for this page so this isn't the issue: https://www.brody.be/nl/robots.txt https://www.brody.be/robots.txt I would use the new version of Google Search Console and use the URL inspection tool. This will let you know why the URL is being excluded and give you the option to manually submit it if everything is ok with it. Second Question Google can be a bit funny about meta descriptions, especially ones that contain emoji characters like the ticks you are showing within the Yoast meta description field. Sometimes if it deems the meta description irrelevant, it can rewrite it itself. If this has been changed recently, I would give it a bit more time to refresh and see what happens. I hope that helps! Kind regards, Sean

Https problem on google result.
Hi, The page seems to work fine with SSL at the moment for me in Google Chrome. I checked with some other tools and also there it seems to recognize the SSL certificate. Make sure that the result for this page isn't cached in Google Chrome, this sometimes happens. Martijn.

Redirecting dofollow, high-domain-authority links from one site to another: good idea?
Yes, it would potentially boost the pages on your high-priority site, but there a lot of variables in terms of whether it has an equal effect on the new URL as it does on the current one. Perhaps more importantly, you run a much higher risk of losing these links altogether if the sites providing them discover that users are being taken to a different site than that in the link.

Changing Platforms & HTTPS Same Time
Hi Jeff, So long as you compile the list of 301 redirects and add them into your htaccess file (or plugin) before making the Shopify site live you shouldn't have a problem. Google announced some time ago that they preferred https as opposed to http and it was hinted that https was a ranking factor (or would soon become one), so you're making the right decision in that respect. Lastly, Moz actually has a pretty good site migration guide which I would suggest reading: https://moz.com/blog/website-migration-guide

Should I set 301 Redirects or keep old permalinks?
As per Moon Boot, I would certainly offer a 301 redirect to the new page, otherwise visitors will be potentially getting a 404 and thus have a negative experience upon arrival to the site. In your .htaccess - **redirect 301 /aboutus /about-us ** Cheers Tim

Remove Product & Category from URLS in Wordpress
Hi there, I can't point you in a specific direction on how to go about doing this, but as Martijn mentioned it's important that you make sure: 301 redirects are setup from old URLs to new URLs (/cat-name 301s to /prod-name) ALL internal links are updated to /prod-name (for example, in the main navigation, footer, sidebars, etc.) I believe what Martijn meant with the URL depth comment was that websites (particularly ecommerce sites) should be structured logically (mainly for topical authority). So for example, if you are a site that sells electronics, it's important from both a user and bot perspective that there is a domain.com/laptops/ page (which would be the category page). Under that, it makes sense to have a product page that would live on domain.com/laptops/macbook for example. It sounds like you are considering to remove the top-level category pages, which might result in a worse user experience and possibly a less-than-ideal setup for link equity being passed down to product pages. Martijn, is that what you were hinting at?

Having issues with Redirects not working and old links on SERP
If I have understood your question correctly, you have set up redirects from the old site to the new site, but old links are still appearing in Google search results. It is in my experience that old links tend to remain for some time, but when clicked and assuming a redirect is correctly set up, the user will be redirected to the new page. It can take some time for Google to update the old page to show the new one instead. I hope that helps. Richard

If I redirect a subdomain, does this affect the parent domain?
Your subdomains will be treated as entirely separate websites in the eyes of Google, as Matt Cutts explains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MswMYk05tk In simple words, if you have https://mywebsite.com https://blog.mywebsite.com These are 2 different sites or properties according to Google, so in your case, you can move, migrate or update your subdomain and this will not affect the parent domain. Business has one toll free number, but multiple locations
Thanks for this- the problem is, admissions (which is where most new patients will be calling for help) is the toll free number. It is only through admissions, that what kind of center they should start with should be determined.
