Serendipitous timing - this article was posted yesterday about using mark-up, and how Open Graph and Schema.org are used, and why to use both: Facebook Open Graph serves its purpose well, but it doesn’t provide the detailed information search engines need to improve the user experience. A single web page may have many components, and it may talk about more than one thing. I had a similar issue with usedcars.com. We had several hundred thousand URLs that were redirecting from parameter driven URLs, to clean hierarchical URLs with a huge initiative to clean them all up in a few months. It took well over a year and still didn't see them getting recognized. I blogged the process - but the part about what I did to speed it up: I grabbed one of my many impulsive purchased domains and quickly set up hosting and an old school html site that consisted of one page. I then exported all of the links on the Google "site:" search through a Firefox plugin called SEOquake that exports the results into a csv file. It's not the prettiest, and there was a lot of work still needed to get to just the URLs, but it was the best solution I could find (note: if any SEO reading this knows of an easier way to do this - please add to the comments for prosperity). I then parsed out the parameters in the URLs in a separate document and used those as the anchor text for each URL. Finally, using excel I then concatenated the URLs and parameters (that were now anchor text) into an html href string. Then copying and pasting the "string" column into the html code, the page looked like: The page wasn't the prettiest, and it had thousands of links (the above is just an example) so it was bad all around, but the point was to get those links crawled by Google. Of course every SEO knows that you can't just build a website and expect it to immediately get crawled - right? So I set it up in Google Webmaster Tools and submitted the page to the the index: I even got more fancy to ensure Google would see the page and crawl all of those old URLs and +1'd it on Google. Did it work? I checked the URLs this evening to see how many Google is seeing and the number has dropped from 550,000 to now only 175. I took the domain off of the server, and now have it parked elsewhere (back where it belongs) and removed the webmaster tools account. All traces of it ever existing are now gone, and the small moment of my attempt to get those URLs removed has passed. It's very black hat - and could potentially get you in trouble if not approached carefully. But - it worked...

Josh, You might also look at the organic search traffic coming from Bing, since they still share their keyword data. It sounds like this client doesn't have a lot of organic search traffic, but if the site hasn't changed much recently you could review a longer time period - like six months - and see which keywords drove organic visits via Bing. You can then extrapolate the Bing data to estimate what keywords might be driving a lot of volume through Google. Agree with Craig about looking at the GA 'Top Pages' report too.

Only if notified of unnatural links would I file a reconsideration request.  Focus on building more links and creating new content.

Agree with Dave. Since you are doing one-for-one 301 redirects then you are delivering the user to the page that best matches their intent. If you were redirecting all of these to the home page, then that could be a problem.

Google changed its webmaster guide lines a while ago making guest posting and press releases a bit more grey hat i.e they recommend against it (with the exception of no follow links). Basically you can still do it, however you're doing it for the user not the search engine. Thus as it's against the webmaster guide lines most people are looking for alternatives and thus it's not used as much. thamls

Man that stinks, it would be nice to pick up 10,000 legitimate fans that quickly but yeah after checking out your facebook I guess that Turkey probably isn't your target market! Looks like it's Manual Deletion or attempting the automater ultility unfortunately

Hi Craig, To me it kinda looks like an 'Exact Match Domain' issue and that over this year's algorithm updates it may have now flagged your domain as of low quality. The fact that your site is very young as well and that this looks like an EMD for your target search query it's likely it is now going against you.  There is low historical data that the search engines can go on so it's likely to be devaluing your site to searchers. Ref. "We have read keywords in the URL might be the issue, even though the page optimizer in MOZ says to do that. We are wondering if this is the issue or there is some other problem we are not aware of." A page's URL yes is used as an indicator of a page's relevancy but this is more about domain name address name rather than a page's URL. Thanks for your help guys. What we are probably going to do is build the new site and start doing good SEO, and since we don't want to pass the link juice from the old site, I think we will just do a 302 redirect so that we don't loose any customers. Thanks again

Thanks for that.  What you are experiencing by the way could be because the server does not have a reverse dns entry.  A lot of servers do not come with those and that could also be affecting your ability to send out email.  Also be sure that your spf records are setup correctly so that they are viewed as credible.  I had a similar issue a while ago, and it had very little to do with my ip and very much to do with a lack of a reverse dns.  Also, you should run a blacklist check on the mail ip to ensure that it is not listed on 1 of the 150 spam lists.  I use mxtoolbox to check that.  Hope that helps.
