Hey Shaun, I wouldn't be so concerned with the length of the URL (see this Moz page outlining that URL length is second from the bottom in search ranking factors http://moz.com/search-ranking-factors according to 120 leading search marketers who participated) as you could put more efforts and time towards some of the other On-Page SEO items from the list to implement. Just make sure your Categories, Archives and Tags from the blog are marked off as NoIndex/NoFollow. If you are using the All In One SEO plugin for WordPress (which I recommend), then you just have to check a couple boxes on the Settings page to accomplish this task to make the blog more SEO/search engine friendly. I'll probably go with a nicely designed iframe, with the full text and a link to the site's original post so interested readers can read more by accessing your site. Consider all possibilities, like the iframe size auto-adjusting to the available size, or giving the users the ability to choose from different sizes (like youtube does).

Thanks for the response. I will be working with a client tomorrow beginning the process of claiming and updating some of their listings. I've schedule a time to go into their location and answer their phone (on a Saturday) so hopefully everything will go well. I guess the best way to do this is just to educate, plan ahead, and be ready to tackle any small problems that come up. Thanks for the insights.

Hi DHStorm, Doug is correct. The business model you are describing would not be deemed local by Google and would not qualify for inclusion, as stated in the guidelines. In order to qualify for local inclusion, the business must: Make in-person contact with customers either at the place of business (like a bakery) or at the customers' locations (like a plumber). Have a unique physical address that is staffed. No virtual offices, P.O. boxes, etc. Have a unique local area code phone number. If a business can't say yes to all three points, then it doesn't qualify. Your efforts will likely be better spent developing an organic optimization strategy for this client rather than a local one.

Saijo- Ideally, a sitemap has a list of all of the pages on a site in a flattened out structure, so that a search engine is able to view all of the pages quickly and easily. Typically an eCommerce site will have a structure like this: Home Page About Page Other content pages Main Category Page (with pagination), lists sub-categories    - Sub Category Page (with pagination), lists products (or perhaps another sub-category). Individual Product Pages Best practice seems to be: Make sure that all of the content and individual pages on the site are on the sitemap. For any page with pagination, link to the "View All" version of the category page (or any page with pagination), where instead of listing 9, 25 or 50 items, it lists all of the information on the page.  That way you don't have to list the paginated pages in the sitemap. (Note: if you have thousands of items on one of these "view all" pages, this might not be a viable option because the page load time might be too long and/or contain too many links). I recommend checking out the Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin instead. You can visit this guide: http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/ to optimize the plugin which will really help your site out a lot.

Don't worry too much about the sitemap.  When your new URLs are up, upload your sitemaps with the new urls and you're good. Between your redirects and sitemap, Google won't have a problem knowing about the new URLs--how long it takes to crawl all of them may be a different story.

Rand talks about this here http://moz.com/blog/white-hat-cloaking-it-exists-its-permitted-its-useful Key word is "may" be penalized.  If you follow Forbes example, you should be ok.  All due respect though, you are no Forbes and so while users may put up with it there, they may not like it on your site.  Watch your analytics as you may see users leaving your site more quickly.
