  • I'd say that SEO skills allow you the segment the customer base more effectively, by understanding different customer groups, what keywords they use, and how they interact with your content. A social media campaign needs to be targeted at a particular customer segment. The deeper your understanding of that segment and their information/entertainment needs, the more effective the social media campaign will be.

  • Hi There It appears there are more than 100K results so the report is timing out. You will likely be able to filter the results by domain authority to get under 100K. Start with 40-100, then 50-100, etc to see if it will help!

  • we`ve experienced marginal effects within our corporate blog when using it... on the one hand the advantages can be found mainly on the side of UX/UI - if your visitors are Google affine they will like this feature because they know it. If you have enough content (especially a lot of articles in an archive for example) then this will help your visitors to search for the relevant info... on the other hand there is a very powerful feature within analytics tools (Google Analytics and many more) to track what your visitors have searched for using your Site Search... I think I don`t have to tell you how useful this data can be...

  • Sarah, I see you placed this question almost a week ago and received no help with it. First, I should say that probably the complexity of it without a url or example.com diagram makes it quite difficult even for those who are very experienced in Local optimization. Next, I saw a red flag from the beginning and I want to be very sure I understand what you have: You have bricks and mortar stores in various locations and you have an ecommerce site that represents all of those stores (my first thought is, like a Costco or other discount warehouse merchant). You have claimed all the locations in Google (you mentioned hummingbird) and have a local/G+ page for each and now, you are slipping in the rankings of the Local (7-pack) or for terms with keyword and geo keyword? (which or both). Now, you want to implement a branch locator on the site and "from looking at other websites with branch locators, they tend to a separate button/page with which you can search for a branch etc. However, they don't have location specific pages." This practice makes you wonder what a best practice would be (correct?) If the find a location link is in a sidebar or header (not the footer as that would be poor UI/UX) it will show from any page. To me, the second question is telling in that you are looking at someone searching for a location who is already on the site. While they will do that, you also must consider those who are searching and see your page in the SERPs. What do you want them to do? Do you want them to come to the site before they find a location? Or, are you fine with them shopping bricks and mortar first and foremost? I would set up each location with a "location" page that is reached from a separate branch locator page that is linked to from the other pages you want searchers/shoppers to be able to find locations from. So, if you sell furniture, I would have a link in the outdoor furniture section, the tables section, the bedroom section, etc.  and all would link to a single locator page where one could input a zip or city, state. (It could even have a list of locations if there are not too many for that.) If the page is on your site and the onpage SEO is around Find A Store Near You for example, there is a good chance that Google will site link that page. (Now, your searchers can choose find a store or shop online.) With the individual city or store pages, I would optimize them so they work for you Local G+ and you will still have the opportunity to rank for non Local SERPS with other pages. The 7 pack is local and the other organic listings allow you more possibility to rank. Remember, typically, a page that is in the 7 pack, etc. will not show in the other organic listings. One assumption I am making is the stores do NOT have their own websites. Hopefully, I have given you enough or provided good questions so that with answers we can assist you further. All the best, Robert

  • In Google Places for Business, Google provides an option for defining the relevant radius for a business, though the radius only goes up to 999 miles. There is also a checkbox that you can uncheck that specifies whether or not the business provides services at their actual physical location to the surrounding community. Maybe adjusting one of these settings will help.

  • Hi Alex, Good questions. I'm going to run through these pretty quickly since there are quite a few. I would first recommend that you study the Google Places Quality Guidelines, which answer many of your questions: https://support.google.com/places/answer/107528?hl=en 1) Google Places 1.  Do not create a Google+ Local listing for any location except a real, physical location that is open to the public during stated business hours (like a restaurant) or from which staff goes to serve clients (like a plumber) and at which the phone is answered during stated business hours. 2. While Google is fine with home-based businesses, they must be staffed businesses where a phone is answered during normal business hours and you must be sure to comply with their rules about hiding your address. There is grey area here. Be careful. Using residential addresses can become spammy and Google is wise to it. Again, see the guidelines. 3. Each location must have a unique local area code phone number. Do not duplicate phone numbers or use 800 or call tracking numbers. 4. If you have a legitimate multi-location business, best practice is to build a landing page on the site for each office and link to the respective URL for this page from each Google+ Local listing. 2) NAP 1. Your NAP should be identical everywhere on the web. Never add keywords, city names or other modifiers to the business name. Questions 2, 3 & 4 - see above advice in previous section. 3) Company name and domain name. If you are a brand new company and are just now naming your business, it can help to have keywords be a legitimate part of your business name. In other words, it can be better to be Anaheim Plumbing Company vs. Bob's Fix-it Service. If your company already has a brand, re-branding is an enormous task. Not sure if this is what you are asking about. Regarding domain names, having keywords in the domain can provide a small competitive edge, but my preference is for the domain name to authentically represent the business name. If a company is called Smith TV Installation, I'd be totally fine with having smithtvinstallation.com as the domain name. Of course, you can go with the shorter name if the name is just way too long. What you definitely want to avoid is publishing a weak site with an 'exact match domain', as this has been the subject of recent Google penalties. In other words, don't buy 50 domains with geo-specific-keyword-oriented words in them and then publish weak and duplicate content on them. There are many good choices you can make when it comes to naming your business or buying your domain. My preferred approach is to be as authentic as you can with your brand, whenever and wherever you can. Unfortunately, due to non-disclosure policies, I can't share my own clients sites with you. It sounds to me like you may not actually be promoting a true mutli-location site if you've only got a single office. I recommend that your first step be to study the guidelines and identify what your business model type really is. That's a vital first step! Hope this helps.

  • No problem! The limit will refer to any profile associated with a tracking Code. So in GA you have one primary email account and you can have up to 100 profiles, but for connecting GA profile to 3rd party services, they have a 25 token limit. "There is currently a 25-token limit per Google user account. If a user account has 25 valid tokens, the next authentication request succeeds, but quietly invalidates the oldest outstanding token without any user-visible warning. If you need to authorize multiple programs, machines, or devices, one workaround is to limit the number of clients that you authorize per user account to 15 or 20. If you are a Google Apps admin, you can create additional admin users and use them to authorize some of the clients." The above is from: https://developers.google.com/accounts/docs/OAuth2 So far exceeding the limit is what we have isolated for profiles not appearing when authorized.

  • I'll post the same response as I did below: Yes - I need to clarify. Both pages are indexed, but not showing up in search. Jneel is an accountant in Boise - they do not show up in the Top 200 in for Boise CPA - there "services" page shows up instead. For EchelonSEO - the homepage is set up for Boise SEO, but also does not appear in the Top 200 - instead a deep Boise SEO page appears. Why do the homepages not appear in the SERPs?

  • I don't believe that's possible.  You'd have to create a special ad group like you suggested just for those keywords to get the capitalization in that word to behave that way.  Google's capitalization guide is here for DKI.

  • Actually I don't think it exists any public list of meaningful directories per country. Said that, apart very very few, almost every directory is at least partially penalized or doesn't pass pagerank (because it was cut off by Google). So... sincerely, I would think in another link building tactic

  • Hi Gregory,  A and B are quite different. B has a lot of written content, pictures and a few MLS thumbnails and a "see all condos for sale" type link leading to "A".  A shows 10 thumbnails per page and has a large Google integrated map and an H1 and breadcrumbs. Basically, A offers exactly what users want: quick view of property details on a thumbnails and when scroll over they can see a map with location. If click a thumbnail they are taken to the specific property. Perfect for users. B is OK too, but the written content is mostly behind a "Read more" so users have option to read, list some thumbnails (but not many, to keep page as original and unique as possible). that is the structure and I can see search engines prefer these pages with more written content.  If I interlink to B I imagine I will more quickly rank well because search engines like the page to start with. So if I instead interlink to A I may risk creating a scenario where A and B are both doing OK, but none are great. That is a concern I have. I am basically looking for a solution where search engines can see that all the "greatness" of B should be transferred as power to A.

  • Tyler, just so we're clear: it's the first TIME the link is mentioned on a page that counts, not just the first link on the page. So, if you have several links on the same page to page1.html then only the first time counts--the other mentions (if they have different anchor text) don't count. If you have a link that's useful (like a link to site's home page) then having the logo on your page link to your home page at the top is useful. Then, having a link on the sidebar to the home page might be useful for users, as well. Then there is the link to the home page in the footer. Those are all useful.

  • Hi Julester From a usability perspective with our tools, you can track up to 3 search engines for each campaign so technically if you wish to track rankings for a single site, you can create 4 more campaigns with the same settings with different search engines giving you up a total of 15 search engines for the same keywords. It's not an ideal configuration but it could work if you are looking for an option to track many locations.
