Why SOFT404 ?
If a particular brand has no products currently, instead of showing a, 'product not found' message, you can have a description of the brand or something like, 'please checkout this space for products from xxx brand soon' etc. And also give an option for the visitor or some closely related product or category link on the same page. In this case, the HTTP header status can be a 200. If you do not want the search engines or the visitors be confused with a brand shop that has no products and shows a, 'product not found' message, the HTTP header status code should be 404 and not 200 and at the same time should help the visitor by suggesting a close match so that he can further navigate the website. Good luck friend. Best, Devanur Rafi

WIX? How to change URLS and is it any good for SEO
I would personally try and move away from Wix, you'd be surprised at how easy it can be to create a website, even if you're not technically minded. I'm sure there's plenty of youtube videos / books that could help. Once done, you're in a position to make your SEO as strong as possible, without limitations.

Bringing a large news site back on line - anything to look out for?
Hi Chris, First thing is I'd look at the Wayback machine and make sure you followed the same URL structure of the old site and look for any oddities. Does the site have an old Google Webmaster Tools account? You might want to poke around in there and make sure there aren't any old URL removal requests or anything else that could potentially cause problems with the relaunch. if you don't have a GWT account, be sure to set one up. Quite honestly, if these articles existed before, I don't see any advantage to releasing them slowly vs all at once. In fact I'd prefer all at once especially if articles linked to one another. Finally, I'd make sure there were no penalty issues on the old site, and address them if there were. You don't want to bring any of those back to life in the process

Help Understanding GWT Message
Yes, I got it from Majestic SEO. View page source then ctrl+f and type in 'daisy'. A lot of the domains with a lot of exact match anchors - hidden behind giant images. The registrant of the site probably has no idea this all happened.

Re: Getting ranks for a specific keyword.
First, I'd suggest thinking of all the possible intentions of that search... The real question is why would you want to attract traffic that likely won't convert? do you think the people typing 'cut throat razor' in searches are actually your target market? If not, imagine the bounce rate, which will have a negative impact on your site's ranking if it's extreme. my suggestion would be to start looking at attracting long-tail traffic or using a a tooll like ntopic, or seochat's related keywords tool to get more relevant traffic around your target phrase. good luck!

About wordpress database
If you have old wordpress databases sitting around, it would only be a problem if you still have the WP that's connected to them still around also. If so, anyone (or a bot) that visits the old installs would be pulling data from the DB and thus draining a small fraction of resources away from your current install of WP. This shouldn't be a problem, considering you mentioned they are experimental and I assume are not in production. The more pull on the database, the more bogged down your server could become at a given time; usually not an issue unless you get sudden spikes of traffic on your experimental WP installs; which would slow production WP down. Hope that made sense.

Retaining SEO value when changing the shopping cart software
After implementation, I saw ranks improve, decrease and being the same. The amount of PageRank that dissipates through a 301 is currently identical to the amount of PageRank that dissipates through a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Filv4pP-1nw. So a small decay may occur resulting in a different rank. On a second note, what happens many times is that the 301 redirect goes to a page that has more/less content, different template and so on as the original landing page. Since the content is different, the position in the serps may go up/down in organics (this happens even if the page is the same as a competitor's page may become more relevant for a query based on algo changes, content changes and so on). The most successful migrations are the ones that have the majority of the pages 301 to a landing page that is roughly the same (all other things being implemented properly). Key is planning. It's stressful, but feels great when implemented properly. Good luck!

What should a small company with a difficult SEO/SEM challenge do?
Takeshi, you understood the problem very well, which tells me you understand both SEO and business. BTW - as I mentioned previously, the SEO company that failed was actually engaged earlier than 2000, I just fudged the date because it couldn't have been later than that date. << . It can take a long time to see results with SEO, so you may want to focus on other lead gen methods until you can build up your business and can afford to spend more time/resources on SEO. I will pass the word, thanks very much.

Personalised Geo-targeted results - How does Google pass link juice?
Hi Xoffie, Google passes around link juice based on the version of the site that Googlebot is served when it crawls your site. Googlebot has a few IP addresses (which will indicate it's location for your server to choose a version of your homepage), but most of them are in the US, so it's likely that Google will see the US version of your site. So the question is, is the US version of your site what you want Google to see?

Should you bother with an "impact links" manual action
Hey Dave, It's unfortunate but very much true. I have experimented this with dozens of site Deleting thousands of artificial links Disavow links Fixing Anchors but recovery is always not measured up to expectations. I tried different with couple of sites (Penguin 2.1), I never remove back-links Just build more quality links and recovery is far better. I feel, deleting even spamy links leads to loss of link juice which brings things further down for a while.

What to write in Guest Post Email Subject
I am not sure there are titles that will ensure anything. Just like any direct mail or email marketing tactic, people get used to overused ones quickly and easily. My advice is not to use the same title every time, but craft each on to each person you are reaching out to. Trying to do guest posting en masse is not going to be worthwhile for you.
