Is it better to have trailing slash or no trailing slash in URLs and what if both variations work?
The problem you're describing is almost exactly the reason why canonical URL functionality exists. Just pick your canonical (with or without slash - it doesn't matter) and make sure you roll it out consistently across your website and sitemap. Regards, George

How to find a topic which is not present on the internet
I think a good little memory hook here is hard answers make for easy links - or, in more content marketing times - hard answers make for well ranking content. -- What I mean here is that if you look around, find a question that is being asked but there is no good or really, truly authoritative answer then you have a solid starting point. This still requires you to do all the donkey work but that is the name of the game to some extent! Hope that helps! Marcus

Domain Change -- Drop in Rank
If you have change the domain, the only thing you can do is to 301 redirects the old domain to the new one and start promoting it and getting quality links on it. There will be a drop in traffic and rankings but it will be for a short span of time and it will come back again. Don’t revert to old again because it will not do much help as far as the rakings and traffic is concern, my idea is to create campaigns that actually work for you. Hope this helps!!

Backlink Questions
The quantity of links isn't as important as the quality of those links. If there are several links to and from low quality websites it is only a matter of time before your competitors get smacked with an algo update. Sure, blog back links take time to build, but they also appear natural, and more importantly, related to the content on your site. That means that theoretically they are good for searchers. This is the best strategy. Link building should really consist of high authority directory listings, competitive link analysis, branded comment backlinks, social bookmarking, and guest blogging. You should never allow more than 10% of your existing link profile to be added at a time. Doing any more than 10% looks unnatural, and unnatural link building is not the way to go. Buying links is kind of an SEO death wish.

Content for the Home Page
As I realised, the major issue is what type of text content you could have on your video based website. Definitely have a brief description of what your website actually is all about. In that text you should include your keywords or synonyms, but not in a spammy way. You could have H2 for the categories of your videos. You could have H3 for the name of the video (which am guessing is changing every other day). Try to optimize the page with as much content as possible but make sure you have a proper structure!

Is it a good or bad idea (in Google's eyes) to add a forum to my website?
Thanks for the opinions. I hate how the Fear of Google makes me have to potentially do or not do things that I think are to the benefit of users. By the way, since forums are such a pain to manage, the forum I'm thinking of using is the new Discourse that a lot of large companies (like Dropbox, for example) are using. Because it runs on an complex environment I don't want to host personally, I'd host it at somewhere like DiscourseHosting.com (too expensive at Discourse' own hosting since they are just going after big sites). for something like eighty bucks a month. Technical question: Because it's going to be hosted elsewhere from my own server, I need to map it to a subdirectory, forum.mysite.com, rather than mysite.com/forum (live example: http://bbs.boingboing.net/). There's not disadvantage to this is there? I have not heard of one. Also, I'd be interested in any options in this choice of forum platform, in case anyone has ever used it, or is interested in checking it out. It works differently than the usual forums.

Question about optimising an inner pages apposed to the homepage
The concept of optimizing the internal page for Blue Widgets should be the same as your home page. It should contain relevant links and on page optimization focusing on your keyterm. In this case, blue widgets. You would want to make sure that you use this term in your meta title, description, in the URL and include relevant content as well. The links are only half of the equation. Having a ton of links and no relevant content will be what gets you in trouble with the engines. As long as you have a balance of links and on page content you should be ok.

Latest Google update
I've taken a quick look at your link profile, and it looks to me like you still have some fairly spammy links live; in addition to some advertising links which are followed (rather than no-followed) which may be what's causing the issues.

URL Path. What is better for SEO
There is no golden rule but generally yes, the page higher in a structure would be considered slightly more important, especially if your sitemap indicates page importance automatically, but a proper structure has far more benefits. As long as you don' overcomplicate your structure it wouldn't make much difference whether your roses are at: domain.com/roses or domain.com/anniversary-flowers/roses as for no 4 - could it be that roses would fit many of the categories and therefore have been taken out of the structure to avoid duplicate content issues? I often see pages deeper in the category tree ranking just as high if not higher than top categories for their respective keywords. At the end of the day Pete, it's the content that will rank your page not the url. Using common sense, do you think Google would promote a model of websites where all pages and categories are always in the root? Would you use a library where all books are stuffed into 1 section? I don't think so.

Will local optimization effect international ranking?
Hi Miriam, Thanks for your great reply. It is a fairy tricky situation. In this case, we're dealing with a B2B manufacturing company and currently the lions share of their business comes from the US. Rankings on important keywords are roughly the same in the Canada and the US. We're currently trying to weigh the benefits of whether establishing the location of the firm and building that credibility would out out-weigh the potential risk of Google then penalizing ranking in the US. Thanks again for your help!

Duplicate Page Content on pages that appear to be different?
Nothing will positively effect this issue more than updating the content and giving the searchers solid, informative, unique content to read. One way to do that might be to aggregate some reviews for these individual shows, give a short, unique bio of the performers, or rate the venues. 500-800 words of unique content will go a long way in this case. Something else to work on would be the amount of internal links back and forth. When links are all robot sees, that becomes your duplicate content issue too. You can't do too much about that in this case. Most of the links come from the nav bars, so, the way to counter it would be again, adding great content.

Blog Posting Approach
Duplicate content is duplicate content whether you cite the original author or not. I would immediately reconsider your blogger's approach. Depending on the citation they are using, they are actually creating backlinks from your site to the original source. That can help them, but, link juice doesn't work both ways. All of your content should be unique, expertly written, trustworthy and authoritative. You want to sound like an expert in your field, not duplicate someone else's expert opinions. Content is king, and duplicate content will definitely effect your SEO rankings.

Google Maps- Get Directions not working properly
Hi Pete, I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of a way to detect which version of Maps a user is using. Perhaps one of our community members will have experimented with this? If you don't get feedback on this here, I would recommend taking this conundrum to the Google Mapmaker forum: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/map-maker But I do hope you'll get further feedback from the community here.

Unkown H1-Tag on my webshop
No worries. On that page, I did find two there: Giant Futuro CS 3 2014 Bruin Heren It does look like the site is running Magento Community 1.7. You'll probably need to dig a bit to find this, but you could looking the design files for the theme, as well as perhaps in the static CMS blocks for the site. If you'd like to run a Magento Code Audit on your site, we developed one that we offer for free; it might tell you if you have core file modifications or base file changes that might help you find the appropriate files. Alexa Certify site's metrics is helpful for gain traffic of website?
Hi There I am not very experienced with this, but I believe it is really only good for Competitive Intelligence. In other words, it just gives you access to data, but then you need to interpret and apply the data to your marketing. It does not help your traffic just be buying it. And for normal web traffic info, Google Analytics is going to give you everything you need to know for the most part. Also, Alexa score doesn't really matter that much - but I don't think this tool affects your Alexa score.
