Will multiple internal links with the same anchor text hurt a site's ranking?
I agree with Heiko, it will not hurt your rankings. In this video you referred to, Matt says "all within the same domain"...so I guess you are concerned about having sub-domains. But sub-domains are still within the same domain.

GWT - International Targeting
By providing Google Webmasters Tools with your international targeting information, you are helping Google decide if your website should appear and how it should appear (in local results) in a location. It only affects results for geographically related queries in which a user limits the scope of a search to a certain country. It will not affect appearance in search results that are not geographically bounded. Hope that helps.

Penguin 3.0 Site Dropped after Update
Hi Adam, I recently experienced a rankings drop after P3, and here's some of the things I did to correct the problems. Before proceeding, I know that everyone says that Google must re-run Penguin to see any changes. However, from my experience, that depends on the way Penguin affected you. If P3 penalized you by completely removing your site, then you're probably not going to see any recovery until Google re-runs Penguin. On the other hand, if you experienced a rankings demotions, as we both did, then you can take steps to fix it and will see results without Google re-running Penguin. Obviously, this is an area of HUGE speculation. I know it seems like Google has stated that a Penguin penalty requires that Google re-run Penguin to see that penalty lifted. However, the Penguin algorithm is just one part of Google's algo, so it only accounts for a portion of what Google considers when deciding where to rank your site for a given keyword. Further, I'm not focused on a P3 penalty, but rather a demotion. A demotion does not necessarily mean a penalty, but instead could indicate (1) links to your site were de-valued, thereby hurting your rankings, or (2) your competition cleaned up their link profiles and were rewarded, thereby allowing them to outrank you. Regardless, here's what I did and I hope this helps you. 1. I used CognitiveSEO to go through my link profile. There are other similar tools out there, but I like this one. 2. After going through my link profile, I uploaded a disavow file to GWT. If previously disavowed links are still showing in your GWT, don't worry. They will still show in GWT, but will be marked as "no-follow." 3. Carefully go through your entire site. Ask yourself, "Is this a good user experience?" Be honest with yourself on this point. Is the content good/useful/informative? Is the site nicely laid out? Does the site inspire trust? In short, make it a great site. 4. Internal linking - huge area of opportunity. I would say carefully go through each page and ask yourself how to improve the user experience by internal linking. 5. Promote via social media. Also, carefully study your competition to understand how they are promoting their sites. I know this may sound cheesy, but I really believe that Rand is correct when he tells us to "be awesome." If you make a great website and promote it, people will not only come to the site, but also come back to the site. Repeat business is everything. Although I'm certain I experienced the same panic/stress/anxiety you did when you saw your rankings drop, I realized there was nothing I could except really focus on making a better site: content, U/X, conversion driven design, download speeds, social media, and a link profile that I wouldn't be ashamed of. I believe that if you do those things, you'll see an improvement in rankings. I hope that helps.

Transferring old articles to new site even if they are written horribly
I would do the following: Redirect every URL from the old site to the appropriate page on the new site. Rewrite any content that is below standards prior to moving it over to the new site. The old idea of having more pages meaning more internal pagerank, etc.. went out the window years ago with the Panda update.

Advanced Regex Question for URL Matching
Hi, Thanks for the response. It's for Google Tag Manager. In the end we had to set it up thus: (https?://www.mysite.com/default.aspx)|(https?://www.mysite.com/?$) GTM has an option to let you ignore case in the regex. For some reason, it didn't work if we swapped the two URLs either side of the pipe around. Thanks!

Schema.org mark up to avoid duplicate issue?
I got your point of having a firm conversation about this issue, but the agency is not mine and my concern is to see the client sacking us off. That's why I'm trying to find a way to cope with this lack of content. I'm agreed we need unique product descriptions, but how could we write original content for products such as windows, doors, furnitures, or some products for B2B like spare parts of industrial machines? I mean writing some original piece of content for common products such as food, clothes or gadget is pretty easy, but for example, when you look for windows and doors you need to read technical specifications - in other words numbers, measurements - and benefits. We can't change numbers, we can write original content to describe benefits instead, but writing benefits won't mean mocking up facts and things. You can write about benefits of a product only when you know that specific product and the industry. IMHO when you are THE random guy who writes anything you will only produce thin content. So far, in my career I found very hard to face clients - too many - who expect results by a touch of magic, like they have hired Harry Potter! I got it may be even worse having every page linked to the official manufacturer page in a schema.org product mark-up, so my last move is to put down original description for the category page and forward to the client to get the approval. In this way I hope to start seeing some benefit while I am pushing them to write original content. Thanks for the response P

Problems ranking in St Louis
That's the issue. For every other location we track, we are on page 1 or 2 for every keyword. But in St Louis, we are on page 4-8. The issue I think has to do with the landing page. When we rank that low, the landing page is our generic sales page, rather than the specific St Louis sales page. We've been working on local citations, but it hasn't moved the needle TOO much yet. And bring it on! (preferably in a city other than St Louis though)

Google Structured Data Verses Yandex Structured Data Validator Query
I think it is important to distinguish the purpose of the automated validation services offered by Google and Yandex, which is to ensure that the properties utilized by the respective search engine are present, and the actual schema.org structured data initiative which doesn't place many requirements on publishers. With that in mind when Yandex states that the address and telephone properties are required for http://schema.org/Organization, it doesn't mean they are required by schema.org but rather that they are required by Yandex. Google's Structured Data Testing Tool doesn't state that these are required because for Google's purposes they are not. So both are correct but for purposes of ensuring your structured data is showing up you do need to test in all of the relevant tools. For less mission-critical structured data it is OK just to follow the Schema.org documentation and wait for the providers to implement support.

Duplicate Page content | What to do?
Hi Carly, It needs to be done to each of the pages. In most cases, this is just a minor change to a single page template. Someone might tell you that you can add an entry to robots.txt to solve the problem, but that won't remove them from the index. Looking at the links you provided, I'm not convinced you should deindex them all - as these are member profile pages which might have some value in terms of driving organic traffic and having unique content on them. That said I'm not party to how your site works, so this is just an observation. Hope that helps, George

Two sites, heavily cross linking, targeting the same keyword - is this a battle worth fighting?
Alpha, Is the domain authority the same for both sites? How similar are their back link profiles? Is there other interlinking going on between them and other sites? If all else is on the up and up, my feeling is that Google wouldn't be seeing them as a single site but that as the algorithm evolves, Google's understanding of the relationship between the two sites is being more clearly defined. But then again, if you think in terms of "entity", (rather than "sites") maybe Google does see them as "conjoined twins" : ), with one being stronger than the other and a searcher finds one, it will certainly find the other. Maybe it's time to start experimenting with redirecting things to a single domain. You could start a single page or category and see how traffic or rankings change. I wouldn't bet that it would bring you more traffic but maintaining a single domain vs. two interlinked ones could save time and effort.
