Top pages - what time frame does it cover? The past month?
Hey there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here! The timeframe in Open Site Explorer is a bit tricky to pin down, as it takes us about a month to gather and collect index data. You can see what date our most recent index update was on the main page of Open Site Explorer, below the search bar. The index spans roughly 180 days of data. Hope that helps! If you still have questions, feel free to drop us a line at help@moz.com and we'll do our best to sort everything out for you.

Top Pages are all 301
My favorite redirect tool is http://www.redirect-checker.org/. I find that is provides lots of little details that other redirect tools don't always provide.

Internal Equity-Passing Links not getting crawled in Moz Open Site Explorer?
Thanks for your response! We've had this particular client in the Open Site Explorer for several months now, so I'm not sure if the time it takes to index is the issue. I've attached a screenshot of what we see and what we share with out clients. It looks like all of the other metrics are being gathered correctly, it's just internal links that aren't working. Are there any possible causes for this? MXwWO

Is Moz's backlink checker.... just... not good?
Hey there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here. I think I can help explain why you're seeing fewer links with our tools than with others. Open Site Explorer and the Link Analysis page of Moz Pro Campaigns are both tied to our Mozscape index, which tends to update roughly once a month. Just a few points on how we compile our index: We grab the most recent index. We take the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank (with a fixed limit on some of the larger domains). We start crawling from the top down until we've crawled ~130 billion URLs The idea here is that we're focusing on the highest-quality links we can find, coming from the most prominent pages of authoritative sites. So, while you may not see every link for a site within our index, we're aiming to report the most valuable ones available! Most new sites and links will be indexed by our spiders and available in Mozscape and Open Site Explorer within 60 days, but some take even longer for many reasons - including the crawl-ability of sites, the number of inbound links to them, and the depth of pages in subdirectories. This tends to bias our index in favor of newer links. Linking data is only stored in the index for around 180 days. After that point, unless the crawler has a compelling reason to return to your site and the sites linking to yours, recrawl and reindex them, those links to your site can fall back out of our index again. That doesn't mean they're not out there on the web affecting your SEO, just that our tools don't see them anymore. You can see our most recently updated schedule here as well as some more technical metrics on our Mozscape API Updates page. You can also see when the last and next updates happened on the Open Site Explorer (OSE) homepage at any time. Since Moz focuses on quality of links over quantity, we are always focused on the most relevant links to display to our users. It's possible that Moz's index will leave out some of the lower-quality (non-link juice providing) links out of our index because of this. So, that might explain why you may see some discrepancies with what other tools may be showing. You can read more about how we build our index in our guide here. I know this is a ton of information, so if you have any questions or if I didn't make anything clear enough, please don't hesitate to ask! You can always drop us a line at help@moz.com and we'll do our best to clear up any questions you might have.

DA/PA Fluctuations: How to Interpret, Apply, & Understand These ML-Based Scores
Sorry Rand, but I still don't see the benefit of tracking this metric at all. Moz really needs to do an indepth post about what DA is and how to use it. I'm sorry if it's already been done, and I haven't seen it. Seems like it could be a beneficial metric to track if you could have a larger pool of competitors to see what's happening to their DA.

Moz Pro Tools Inbound Links
Hey there! Tawny from Moz's Help Team here. Unfortunately, there's no way to use our tools to find out when an inbound link was created, and there's no way to import that sort of data into Moz Pro campaigns. Sorry about that! If you have any other questions we can help with, feel free to shoot us a note over at help@moz.com and we'll do our best to answer any and all questions you might have.

Can I check outbound links from a website?
Hi Annabel, OSE and other link tools may tell you if a site is linking to you, but they are not foolproof because it depends on whether those tools have indexed those links - which could take months. The best way to check if a site is linking to you is with Screaming Frog. Crawl the site you want to check and go to 'Bulk Export' > 'External Links'. This will give you a spreadsheet with all the external links on that domain and from there you can find any links to your domain. Cheers, David

301 Permanent Redirects
Hi, Tawny is right. If you want to pass on any existing authority to a new domain/url, then you want to be using 301 redirects to do it. Either doing them en masse (e.g. all http: to https:) or individually if required, and you should get somewhere around 90% of the original SEO benefit (which is better than nothing). Plus it also avoids users trying to visit via previous links ending up on a 404 page, which is pretty bad for the user experience.

How long does it take to turn around a 10/17 SPAM score domain?
Hi Lisa I read those before posting. I guess my question was more around once you take proactive measures so the site is less spammy, how long does it generally take Google to stop looking at it so negatively. Interested in both MOZ's views on this and the community here based on their experience.

How Do You Deal With Duplicate Content On A Retail Site
Hi Tawny Thanks very much, as it happens Nigel has posted a response that'll hopefully solve the issue and Roman has given me food for thought on another issue we have brewing. Best Regards Nick

Redirect Chain Issue?
Sometimes the http to https redirect can't be avoided. It depends on where you host your website. Check your code and make sure every reference to /contact/ ends with a trailing slash. That should do the job.

Crawl a node js page - Why can I only see my frontpage?
Hi there! Sam from Moz's Help Team here - I'm sorry about the trouble! Unfortunately, this would be a result of our crawler's inability to work with Javascript. If your site is primarily Javascript, then the data you get back with regards to the crawl report won't be completely accurate because of this. There's no real work around that I can recommend for this one, since it is a technical limitation, but I did find some good blog posts and discussions in the Q&A about this when I searched our Help Hub. While the tools and data that rely on our crawl of your site may not return the best results because of that Javascript, your keyword rankings and link profile should work just fine. You might also want to check out a few tools that are compatible with Javascript, like Botify or Screaming Frog. I'm really sorry I can't be of more help here; I'll definitely be sure to pass this along to our Product team as feedback on your behalf. Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with, or if there are any follow-up questions you might have!

Open Site Explorer Showing Blank Screen
Hey Ryan! I saw that you got it working already but wanted to note that I've seen this same thing happen when I enter only the url, (without http:// or https://) Once I add the http or https it seems to work perfect. Either way, glad you were able to get it working, cheers!

How to build the domain authority
Hi there, Tawny from Moz's Help Team here. Great question! Domain Authority is a score (on a 100-point scale) developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. It is made up of an aggregate of metrics (MozRank, MozTrust, general link profile, and more) that each have an impact on this score. it can be difficult to directly influence your DA, but one way to move toward increasing it would be to improve your overall SEO. A great place to start with that could be to focus on link building! You can learn more about link building here and get a more detailed explanation of Domain Authority through this resource. In general, I'd recommend keeping in mind that all of these metrics are relative with respect to the other sites included in our index. The metrics will probably have some additional context when compared to sites similar to your own, including your competitors. Rand does a great job of breaking down how to interpret DA fluctuations through this post. Feel free to give it a once over to see if it helps clarify some of your questions! I hope this helps - if you have any follow up questions, just let us know! You can always reach us by sending an email to help@moz.com.

Will Moz move DA from an old domain to the new?
Had the same question. I'm really glad to hear this!

Page Authority different between Moz Open Site Explorer and On Page analyser
Hey there Lisa, Sam from Moz's Help Team here! So something to consider here is how long ago he switched domains/URLs and how long ago those 301 redirects were implemented. Using 301 redirects will redirect your link juice (PA/DA), but you might need to wait a little while (a few index updates) for our crawler to pick up those changes and display the appropriate numbers. If the domain switch was somewhat recent this would explain it. Our Mozscape Index is not a live representation of links. We can store link data for up to 190 days (~6 months) if links are not re-discovered from external linking sites. Generally, most new links that appear in our Index were crawled 3 months ago as this is the current timeframe it takes for us to process new links (and therefore to find and follow/process the 301 redirects). I hope this helps to explain. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Fresh Web Explorer for .com.au
Hey! Dave from the Help Team here, Unfortunately there isn't a way to filter results based off of country at this time, but I will certainly add this to our user insights! Here is a bit more on how Fresh Web Explorer works! We manage a list of RSS feeds that we have discovered from various sources and multiple times a day, we check all of those feeds to see if new posts have been added or updated. If they have, we crawl and index those posts. Once a week, we search Alltop to discover any new feeds that are not currently in our list, and add them. We also add any feeds from news sites we find as part of our Mozscape crawl. Hope this helps! You can also read more of our FWE FAQS here Hopefully that helps,
