  • Gregory, I will tell you that your dumb questions have been asked by others, me for one. So, where to get the answers: You are here and there are answers here. If we cannot give you what you need, you will find that Moz has a help hub. I tried how to set up branded keywords and it does provide some answers. Short of that, you simply ask the team. Now, you may end up on the Seattle VS. Portland SEO cage match page where you just have to decide which is the one that will offer hope. Well, having  been to both cities, I would suggest you choose based on the pics. With Seattle you have a whole crew coming from a fish market (if you like fish, well never mind re the smell), or with Portland, you have the answer to the question "touch or tackle?" ... figure it out, these cats can tackle some SEO. But, I digress. You are in the Moz analytics section and under keyword rankings you need to click on add and manage keywords. Then manage brand rules. For your brand, I would suggest this: click include each that you have above. (one at a time). For my company, drumBEAT Marketing, I have it as drum beat marketing, drumbeat, drumbeat marketing, drumbeat marketing houston, drumbeat houston, etc. The reason is I know that if they are searching for anything related to drumBEAT, they already know we exist in some way and by virtue of that, it is a branded term. So, drumBEAT SEO, drumBEAT Copywriting, etc. are all branded terms. I do it the same way for clients. I include their brand name, geo locator + KW + brand name, etc. If it is a domain, I include that so drumBEATMarketing.net, www.drumBEATMarketing.net, etc. Last, you state: "I find these sort of unanswered questions almost every time I try something new." Fantastic, now you can learn because you have questions. So, each time come to Q&A and ask the question. I promise you will learn more this way than by having example after example. You will be forced to think about what is the question and how do you communicate it. You will be nervous about asking the wrong question and you will force yourself to stretch a bit - before you ask the question - just to be sure you tried everything. (In doing that you may actually find answers we do not know of and we will learn from you.) You will see that SEO and using the myriad tools available for it means you are going to be asking questions for the next....few years at least. (I am still asking questions.) I will also tell you that I in no way work for Moz, am not compensated by Moz (ok, thanks for the Tshirts Megan), and I do disagree with Moz and its team occasionally. Really. But, I can tell you I learn more here than anywhere so you are in the right place. Ask another dumb question, I dee double dog dare ya! Best, Robert

  • Most people have their general process down pat, so I thought I would just add a couple things I do with keyword research that I'm not sure if other people do, or if they consider them to be an integral part of their process: • I take large groups of keywords, upload them to adwords, and get regional search volumes using the keyword planner (E.g., Seattle or Texas or whatever is the relevant area for a client.) I then export search traffic by region from Google Analytics and compare the volume a website is getting from search compared to what the Google Keyword Planner reports the volume is... and find opportunities from there. Pic below. • If I know there are opportunities for a client and I'm looking for pages to optimize or create or whatever, I use Screaming Frog's custom filters to gather a list of all the pages on a site that already contain a particular term. Then export, and you have your list right there. • I also look for universal results stuffed with image boxes, local packs, videos, news results, as much as I look at rankings. Those results often provide the best opportunity for capturing the greatest share of searches. QMeamSz.png

  • Hi Alicia Those videos are basically used as an introduction on how to use the moz tools. Their basic SEO guide is one of the best out there which can be found here http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo Neil Patel released his guide recently and it's a good way to get more information about doing SEO http://www.quicksprout.com/the-advanced-guide-to-seo/ Don't be afraid to ask here, we will try to help out as much as we can.

  • Revamping the Q&A categories is on our list of things to do, and mobile is one of the categories we want to add. Thanks for giving your feedback; this is a good place to do so.

  • Hi there Jan, Thanks for reaching out to us.  I am sorry to hear that you might be finding some inconsistencies within our tool  Without knowing 100% of the KW and the url you are tracking, I am not exactly sure how to address this question to your liking (while respecting your client's privacy).  However I can say that if they are being pretty successful on the DA side, mostly likely they will do well in certain rankings.  Please keep in mind that our competitor's tracker uses exact match when it comes to extracting data for a url.  For example, if you are tracking www.abc.com as a competitor, then our tool will only go out and look for instances where www.abc.com comes up on a KW search, so any other instances where it doesn't match the subdomain we will not report (i.e. non-www site). I hope that helps!  Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to jump right on it! Best, Peter Moz Help Team.

  • Things will be fixed in about the next two hours. A workaround is to use a different computer for the moment, so the DNS isn't cached with the bad CSS.

  • Hi Schwaab, I'm sorry for the confusion. It looks like we sent you that message without actually migrating any of your campaigns over. We don't have a set schedule for the migrations but it should happen soon. While you're waiting you can either continue to use Pro, or delete a campaign and set up a new one in Analytics. We're sorry for the inconvenience and hope you get to use the full awesomeness that is Moz Analytics very soon. If you have any further questions email us at help@moz.com. Cheers, Sierra

  • Unfortunately there is no way to view historical data for Page Authority, perhaps this is something Moz will consider for the future (maybe the top 10 or 20 pages per site according to PA?)

  • Chris, You can track it in a couple of ways--via the ranking for the keyword(s) the page is optimized for and/or via the search traffic that the URL generates.  For tracking it by the traffic generated by the URL, you'd click on the traffic from search link in  Moz Analytics and then on the URL tab.  For tracking via the keyword rankings for the page, just click on the Rankings  tab in your keyword rankings report. By documenting your starting position and traffic before your make your changes, you'll be able to see the impact of the changes you make to that page as the optimization takes hold.

  • Hi Keri, You will need Google analytics for things like recommending keywords and some other tools still? does Moz intend on implementing a Java script code that could be placed on a site anytime in the near future? Sincerely, Thomas

  • To track competitors in your campaign you need to add them via the Campaign Settings. There's a section at the bottom which you've seen that let's you enter the sub-domain and the name for each of these competitors. Once some data has been collected it's then possible to view the rankings for your selected keywords for each of these competitors or compare the rankings side by side for a selected search engine. To do the comparison you'll need to go to your "Rankings" report. The default is to show: "My Rankings", "across all engines". You'll see this displayed in the drop down boxes in the second/main section. To see the rankings of a specific competitors, click on the drop down that says "My Rankings" and select the competitor you're interested in. You'll be able to see all their rankings for the search engines you're interested in (These are selected in the campaign settings). To compare your rankings against your competitors in side-by-side columns you can click on the "across all engines" drop down and select the search engine you want to look at. You'll be able to see exactly where you stand. If you click on a particular keyword in your ranking report you'll see the ranking history. This will track your competitors positions as well as your own. You can toggle the each competitor on and off by clicking on their domain under the graph. Their entry in the SERP will also be displayed below the graph too.

  • Hi Alice, As the other posters have noted, the Help Hub and the Beginner's Guide to SEO are both excellent resources for learning the ropes. I'd keep an eye on the blog, too, as posts frequently deal with using Moz tools. You'll have it all down in no time. Matt

  • I am glad, I brought it to your notice. One last question for you, I have put  the canonical of all these PR 1 pages to my home page, is it fine?

  • Thank you, I think I also had some caching issues.  I made sure I was logged into the correct Analytics account and was able to get everything to work once I cleared my cookies/cache.

  • Hi Catherine! If you export the campaign rankings results via csv, the landing page URL should be included in the results. http://screencast.com/t/LfH7EpWc The PDF won't work in this case since it's basically a screenshot of the Ranking Page. Hope this helps! Best, Sam Moz Helpster
