  • Unless the bulk of your link profile is from these sites you don't stand to be negatively impacted by this.  You are just losing out on links that might have passed linkjuice before.

  • Yes, I was about to mention the honeymoon period as well. I had exactly the same issue. I can reassure you that yes, a few quality links would do wonders for your site. That's all there really is to it.

  • Hello Dave, Thanks For the answer. Regarding the max link juice - in my industry top listings are having more than 100 links on site, and we didn't changes the site architecture since a year. We got top positions with this site architecture. however i am changing the site architecture, but it will  not give a sure stable rankings.  I am looking for the stable rankings, plus I am not punished in panda rollout, as i checked my backlinks regularly. One more thing to add, we are getting this kind of penalities or rankng fall down before panda update.. Thanks for the referal traffic point.

  • Thats a good tip. Beware of rewording products titles though. Especially for titles where people are searching for a specific branded product or will be searching for exactly the same title.

  • Reviews, price and fresh data play a huge role. This article is from 2009 but still very relevant IMHO. http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/7062/google-base-shopping-results

  • PageRank is simple to understand. Your PR went to 1 because either: The highest pagerank of the linking page is now 2 instead of 4 what it used to be The highest pagerank of the linking page is higher than 2 but with excessive outgoing links splitting up PR too thin PR4 or higher link you had is gone or nofollowed You were selling links and got a filter reduction of pagerank to make it less atractive for purchase (unlikely as your PR is low anyway to start with). The highest pagerank page on your site is now a sub page (did you check?) That's all I can think of for now...

  • Tyler, I would not be very worried SEO impact, but it could hurt your brand, etc. Affiliate links typically don't pass link juice, and Google usually doesn't penalize you for bad links, anyway (they usually just discount them).

  • Thanks for all the tips. I came across magento and I really like some of their features. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other companies offering similar things. I really like the Reward Points System Recurring Payment Automated Email Marketing Reminders

  • For now we are still "included' and get some nice traffic. But most results are on page 3 instead of the first page and 4 to 5 grouped together. Looks like some penalty tools are correct; they say we have a penalty of -30. Google sitemap learns that daily more pages are indexed but the number of searched where they appear are almost non existent.

  • Thanks a lot for the valuable advice - looks as though the risk reward ratio does not stack up in my favor just yet. I'm definitely going to hold fire until the Panda update has stabilized even though I am sure I would be benefiting the users.........

  • Stavros, PageRank can indeed hint at site's strength - many authoritative sites exhibit very high PageRank values and going up against them may be silly in some cases. However it's a workable situation... If you see a site with PageRank 10 in the results yet their site lacks the phrase you're targeting in essential places such as title tag, content and inbound links (as part of anchor text) it may in fact be possible to beat them. Basically relevance will beat authority. That's why Microsoft doesn't rank well for "Men's Shoes" despite their high PR. Also PageRank is a raw importance value assigned to each individual page not to a phrase or other factors and is transmitted through links. One page gives other page it's PageRank by linking to it. Hope this answers your question.
