Reccomended Domain Name Extensions to Register to Protect a Brand Name .com Domain Name
I like the direction that you are going in. Assuming they have filed all of their legal aspects of their business (trademark like you said, copyright, etc.), I would consider also registering the negative versions of their domain name. That way if there are any competitors out there or trolls trying to create a website in which they bash you, they will have a much harder time with it. Example: website123.com is your domain/brand. Negative Versions: website123scam.com, website123sucks.com, website123ripoff.com Things of that nature. Just something to consider. The last thing you need is someone ranking right next to you with one of these negative domain names involving your brand.

No existing network with bloggers
Lots of methods to how you reach out to them, but sounds like prospecting and finding them in the first place is the bigger issue. For prospecting, go start by looking for lists of blogs, eg "top gardening bloggers". Also look for non-bloggers, eg "top gardening instagram accounts". Google obvious content, eg if you're looking for fitness blogs, search "best upper body workouts" or "post workout protein options" and you'll find sites that might not show up for "top fitness bloggers". Gather them all up in a spreadsheet. Find contact info. Interact on social. Email and introduce yourself. See if you can offer a guest post with some actual highly relevant titles that they'd be interested in. It helps to already have some decent content you have produced to lend you more credibility with them, eg "here's a few past things I've published on similar topics." Consider expanding the process with tools like LinkProspector, Buzzstream, Pitchbox, Just Reach Out (this one seems to have good training wheels for people new to outreach) - that can help you scale up the number of sites you can find and contact. But it helps to use them once you have done the process a couple times. As you mentioned, will take awhile when you don't know the niche. But you can learn the space pretty quickly

Does Google really using unlinked brand and related mentions as a ranking factor?
The simple answer would be yes. However, the amount of page authority that you receive from these mentions are up for debate. Personally, I use Moz Pro's opportunities section to view link-less mentions and subsequently try to convert those mentions into an actual link. Remember, this unlinked mention will be a secondary signal, not a primary, so, it is always better to try to convert to an actual link. In my experience, I have had excellent luck contacting the person who wrote the article to link my website. Best of luck! John

Reducing Amount of Text on Web Pages-Risk of Killing Ranking?
Hi Kingalen I honestly would not use that French site as a model for your own. The homepage is just one big banner and you have to scroll below the fold to search anything, In my experience, the best home page for this type of site is one big search box in the middle with little opportunity to refine it until they get some results. You have to hook them in with the minimum of fuss. It's not the amount of text on the homepage but how relevant it is and quite frankly it just drones on about expiring leases and out of town businesses needing a rental. Keep it focused and succinct.Go to MOZ keyword explorer or any similar product and type in 'Office Space New York' and look down the most searched keywords. 'New York Office Lease' as well and write clean contextually strong copy for the home without overdoing it and trying to rank for every keyword you can think of. Then when a user has clicked on say, Bryant Park, show them the listings. Not just one or two at the top with a link to 'view all' and the rest of the page thick with content - Give them what they want as quickly as you can, and if then add some local area content with a map and image with alt saying 'Bryant Park' below the listings. It seems to me that someone's attempts at novice SEO has ruined your site and you need to simplify and make the object satisfying your customers as quickly as possible rather than filling the site with cannibalising content and needless words. Of course, Meta is important for SEO so make sure that yours are optimised 'Bryant Park Office Space for Lease' you have 70 characters so. use them. Use one (1) H1 on the page! - for some reason your logo is an H1 - Use a logo with an Alt tag - 'Metro Manhattan Logo' Then the other H1 'Bryant Park Office Space' is OK, grab a photo of Bryant Park and Alt it 'Bryant Park Office Space' and use just 3-500 words per page and you will be fine. I hope that helps. Regards Nigel Regards Nigel

Asking to be inculded after post has gone live. Bit of a no no? Or common practice?
Isaac, Ask away! Site wont include you if they are not aware that you exist. What better way to let them know then to reach out ask for links back to your quality content. I would refrain from using spammy language and try to be real and authentic with your approach. Build relationships with the site owners. This sense of friendship can payoff in the long run. But remember your content has to be quality! Thanks, Don Silvernail

.com or .me for freelance business?
I would really try to get a ".com" even if you have to slightly alter your URL to not just be your brand name. Alot of people will add their city or a service that they are associate with or provide after their brand name ("www.abcwebsitedesign" or "adcnewyork" as examples).

What exactly "monthly searches" from Google Adwords teach us?
I believe you already understand the answer. Through my experience with google Adwords, and learning much of my Adwords campaign skills for marketing veterans such Tommy Griffith. My understanding is that Monthly Searches are to be treated more as trends rather than accurate numbers. However, those trends seem to be precise and a meaningful to gauge size and market share. I am going to suggest you dig into what kind of brand awareness campaigns your competitors have been executing on and what kind of marketing they're doing in general. My observation is that given the total market share size combined with your marketing efforts and churn rate 5000 search is a rough estimate of what your brand is capable of acquiring in regards to Search Share at a given period of time. Perhaps you should modify or get started on a brand awareness strategy.

How to Measure Impact and Potential Strategies for Competitors with Similar Brand Name in the Same Industry
Hey Ben, I'd definitely set up a project in MOZ Local and SEMrush and I'd periodicaly measure the amount of backlinks and keywords which you are ranking for in comparison to your competitor. Backlinks and KW rankings are the two KPIs I would measure in this case. Also, if they are ranking for some KW which you are not, you will see it in the SEO tools and you can start working on it to outrank them. Hope it helps. Cheers, Martin

Instagram for small manufacturing business?
Well you have an interesting product for instagram. My best advice would be to analyze the behavior of your target market. If your target market, or influencers of your target market, are on instagram, then follow then and create new relationships. As with any other tool, it takes time and dedication to grow a following and cimmunicate effectivley with the right people and businesses. Use instagram as a brand awareness and relationship tool...never as a selling tool. The silver lining? You get an instagram link which im sure is a 100 DA.

Domain Transition: Leaving low quality content behind
It might be affecting your domain authority, but I would be more worried about those pages negatively affecting your rankings if the large number of pages are creating a poor UX due to a complicated navigation structure or if users are having difficulty finding the content they want. Overall I would say a general rule of thumb should be: does this content serve a purpose and provide value to our visitors? If the answer is no, then I would 301 to a page that provides value. If it's yes, I would keep the page.

Domain Transition: Moving over paid traffic campaigns first
Hey, I'm thinking about the basic things. First of all - Google won't take you seriously if you just have a couple of pages, which are new to his eyes, and with no links. More content (dofollow) will immediately mean that it sees you're trying to make an impact. + better chances of backlinks, shares. + better traffic since you have more pages. All of these would show Google that you're the real deal.

Best URL structure for generic platform with different brand names per country
Hey there, I'd recommend the version 1) with a little update. To keep URLs short as possible, you don't need to add _/en-gb/ _since .com is already considered as English version. Also, instead of /en-gb/ (but for other countries and languages)I'd put just /en/ or /es/ and so on. Cheers, Martin

Rate My Logo!
Hi there, I happen to own a web design agency that does logo design, and if if it's not too late to chime in on this, I've recently compiled a checklist of what makes a logo great in a blog post you might enjoy. Essentially, the more items you can check off this list, the better, and while I can tell you "it looks pretty cool", without knowing more about your business and / or customers, I'm unable to determine whether these other criteria can be checked off or not. (Hope that made sense.) When convenient, please take a look and let me know what you think. Helpful? Or too much? http://giantjet.net/15-characteristics-great-logo-design/ Best, Zack
