Can we link back from help documents to product or features pages on website?
Hi! I guess that really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If it is relevant for usert to have a link back, or if the text on the help-page dictates that a link to the product page gives value and meaning, then I would absolutely add a link back. From an SEO perspective It could also be valuable if it helps mapping out the site hierarchy and distribute "link juice". However - I would ask myself if this gives value for my user, not only worring about technical SEO. But if if gives value for your visitors, then you should absolutely go ahead and link between the pages. Some more info can be found at https://moz.com/learn/seo/internal-link and https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ (and https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769?hl=en) Hope this helps Best regards, Anders

Sitemap and Privacy Policy marked for duplicate content?
Just ignore it, duplicate content is not a real issue. Definitely not in this case. What Moz is looking at is the overlap in code, if the code is for xx% the same they'll mark it as duplicate. That's why it isn't super intelligent, also don't worry about duplicate content and Google itself. Only if you really mess it up, you'll get yourself in trouble.

Competitor's new site ranking with out much keywords - How?
Hi there, Keywords are just one of the factors - probably the most obvious one. However, without you noticing, they might have rebuilt the website's foundations which means the website is improved technically - stronger and faster. Obviously, we would need to analyse before & after, but it can be anything from responsive design, accelerated mobile pages, internal links and overall site structure (even thought it might seem the same). It can also be any of the following: gained a number of good backlinks (e.g. launched an intensive backlink strategy), increased their traffic, reduced their bounce rate, improved the quality of their reduced content, focused on meta descriptions, increased their social following/engagement/shares etc. Perhaps you have noticed they changed their URL structure? This could deliver good results too. So without any further info, it is very difficult to tell as it can be a few of the factors I mentioned above. Thanks. Kat

How is Single Page Application (SPA) bad for SEO
Good question, Billy. Single page apps now play a huge role in modern web development and SEO issues make sense. Before October 2015 Google suggested to use the following scheme: http://example.com/page?query#!state I.e. in your examples it will be yoursite.com#!products and yoursite.com#!prices. So main role in the understanding correct page URL played the ! symbol. Here is the full recommendations (It's outdated now, read below): https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2009/10/proposal-for-making-ajax-crawlable.html In October 2015 Google launched new scheme and deprecated the old one. So here is the new announcement: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2015/10/deprecating-our-ajax-crawling-scheme.html The major news of this announcement is that now Google DOES index dynamic pages. But you need: Make sure your JavaScript files can be indexed by Google (because Google run it in their crawler like just modern browsers) Make sure you use HTML5 mode in URL scheme (AngularJS supports it). Is there anything wrong to have large number of internal links pointing to homepage? Including links from sub domains or sub directories?

Migrating Magento site to Shopify Plus without dropping in SERPS
Hi Sean, I can certainly empathise with your experience - Magento is definitely more complicated to set-up and customise initially. And for a little background, I worked on the early versions of WooCommerce with the original developers, so I understand why there has been a need for simpler, more effective eCommerce solutions. With Magento, the key is to find developers and agencies/consultants who have experience with it. Like any platform, it's much easier when you know it well, but often we don't have time to spend learning before we're earning. I've worked on 2-3 fairly big Magento sites now, and can get stuff done reasonably quickly and cost-effectively, but it's never quite as fast as with Shopify or WooCommerce (although knowing some Magento specialists makes a big difference). This article about a large company moving to Shopify sums it up - from the article it's clear they had appalling developers, but used that as the reason to switch platforms (http://elumynt.com/magento-to-shopify-plus-complete-guide-for-large-retailers/). I can't blame them for it when it was costing them money and business, but it's pretty clear it's a dev issue... And Shopify isn't bad for what it is. If you're looking for something that is more plug-and-play, it'll do the job. The problem is always that you're limited by what's available. So if what you need hasn't been created/verified/approved, you're basically stuck. From memory, a team I know have put together some SEO solutions for Shopify so will try and dig it out. With regards to any migration - if it's done properly, you shouldn't lose rankings. I've moved tens of thousands of pages across domains and CMS platforms etc, and had minimal drops if any. Usually the new platform etc has been rolled out to improve things, so it often leads to a gain even if everything else stays the same, just because the new set-up is faster etc. The key is to plan out the switch very carefully and with plenty of time to check, double check and triple check - 301 redirects, .htaccess and robots.txt files are the essentials

Internally linked pages from different subdomain must be well optimised?
Hi vtmoz, I would not fear a negative impact on the main domain from linking to poorly-optimized subdomain pages. Negative impacts from linking to "bad neighborhoods" are limited to cases where you're linking to true webspam (some examples from Google here). At worst, you're linking to pages that won't rank well because they are not well-optimized for search, but the main site and pages will not be negatively effected. Hope this helps clear things up. Best, Mike

Are there any hard rules about internal linking of homepage?
"interlink homepage to the highest": I mean do we need to link homepage from highest number of pages? This is something we can see from "Internal links" in Google search console. I just wonder if you link to other pages more than to homepage.

Dead end pages are really an issue?
Thanks for the response. Actually we serve our pages differently to Google bots and Users. Users can see related pages but we can't see while browsing as bot. So, ultimately there are no other links on most of the pages for Google. With your brief, its clear that we definitely can have different links. But as I said, these pages are user guides about every feature we provide. So can we link back this page to same page of feature it's been linked from? And we think about what other links we can employ on these pages.

Do search engines see copy/keywords when it appears only at the bottom of a page?
Hi, IMO yes search engine crawl. Best way to check using Fetch and render that will give you all the details. Important keywords should be placed within 100 words/ first paragraph** Hope this helps. Thanks

Should I do multiple 301 redirects?
If you redirect a redirect, that's going to cause a redirect chain. Having too many redirect chains will result to slow page speed. For every step in a redirect chain, about 10% of authority is also lost. The best thing to do is a 1 - 1 redirect if possible. Have a read of this blog post about redirects - https://moz.com/blog/heres-how-to-keep-301-redirects-from-ruining-your-seo Hope this helps!

Why is google still crawling my old website pages?
Hi, I wonder if other sites are still linking to your old pages. Have you checked in analytics if you're receiving any traffic? As far as I'm aware Google will index pages if they're crawable. Have you considered adding no index tags to the pages you no longer want indexed? Another tip is to submit a new XML sitemap to Google via Google search console. This should essentially tell Google what pages are preferred in your site. Hope this helps.

Increase in Soft 404s due to Custom 404 page?
Hello! You should check the actual status code of your custom 404 page - does it actually return a 404 Not Found? You can check in a variety of places: https://urivalet.com/ https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/googlebot-fetch Or install the Redirect Path plugin and it will show the status code in your browser.

Sitemap Question (aspx, XML, HTML)
Hi Taylor, I'm not totally familiar with SEOQuake as a tool, so your best bet would probably be to talk to their customer service people, but let's give it a shot! It's fine for your /sitemap.xml page to display a message that it doesn't have any style associated with it - many XML sitemaps are just raw XML documents that don't look pretty on a browser but that search engines can crawl just fine. It looks like the Site Compliance function of SEOQuake just checks to see whether or not an XML sitemap is present. Do you have an XML sitemap at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml? What does the SEOQuake tool say about your sitemap? Have you submitted your sitemap in Google Search Console, and is Google Search Console reporting any errors?

Your connection is not private
Is the problem fixed? using this method mentioned by the Tim "Your connection is not private" ? If not, make sure that you installed the SSL correctly and then check the SSL certificate for any errors. After installing, be sure to follow SSL SEO tips provided by Moz.
