  • That's a slick piece of code but fortunately this is no longer an issue for titles of paginated posts when running the Yoast plugin.  The paginated pages say Page "#" of "total pages #".

  • I am confused with the answers. Even though majority claims that different landing pages are not required, I can see clearly top landing pages in our niche are created for same purpose of targeting to rank for particular keywords and majority of them are  successful. I would like to know if there will be any penalty if we create related landing pages.

  • Interested to know why you have opted for subcategories rather than faceting the blazers category as a whole, ie having a domain.com.au/womens-blazers?style=boyfriend style URL. Also, is there a reason you've not used .au in the second URL?

  • I'm not understanding. Is the URL Alias a canonical or a redirect? If it is canonical, then Google should not redirect but stay on the URL you've entered into the address bar. It may or may not show up in search results. The canonical is telling Google that your preference is to have only the Alias indexed but it's okay to have visitors land and stay on the original URL. Google treats it as a preference, not a directive, meaning it may or may not respect your wishes. If the alias is a redirect, then when you enter the first URL into the address bar you should be automatically redirected to the second. Only the 2nd will be indexed and show up in search results. If Google is finding those, perhaps they were indexed at one time and still haven't fallen out. I'd also check the sitemap to see if they're listed there. Hope that helps.

  • Just to clarify, my recommended format is not exactly Option 1, but it is close. They need to be sure to encase each individual 'affiliation/example' within it's own set of quotation marks, not just separated by a comma. Without doing so, search engines will see all the affiliations as a single entity rather than individual affiliations. Also, be sure to include all 'affiliations/examples' within brackets [ ] See how Moz's set up their 'sameAs' schema? This is the format that should be followed.

  • So, since I first posed this question i've tried adding schema structured data illustrating that the page is associated with 5 distinct locations.  Been over a week and the problem persists.

  • I'm not aware of any recent updates to Bing's algo (sometimes they are documented on their blog). Since Yahoo is largely powered by Bing, it is reasonable to expect that you would see both drop in performance. Are there any similar features across all your sites which may have become devalued? Are you using Bing Webmaster Tools (which are great BTW)?

  • Excellent to hear. Ruling that possibility out, then, here are some additional questions in regards to Indexation, Accessibility, and Content taken directly form the Moz Site Audit Bootcamp: Is the load speed acceptable? Are any page errors inhibiting visitors? Are crawlers accidentally being disallowed? Has the page been affected by any search engine algorithm updates? Has the site been checked for duplicate page content, 5XX errors, 4XX errors, and crawl attempt errors? Does the page use any non-crawlable items such as iframes, flash, java, etc.? Are any other pages on the website internally linking to this page to indicate it's importance? Could the page be receiving a content penalty due to bad user experience, low quality content, irrelevance to topic, thin / short page, etc.? My hope is that you'll be able to use this as a checklist to further troubleshoot via the process of elimination. Also, if these aren't helpful, would you be up for sharing the URLs mentioned in your original question? Best, Zack

  • Simple answer - use rel=canonical to indicate which article you care the most.

  • The client sells school uniforms. I have now discovered he has created a number of 'hub' pages which simply contain lists of school names for each region, where each of the school names link to a page of fairly banal blurb about each school. Given that he does not sell uniforms for most of these schools, it looks like classic keyword stuffing. This being the case, surely it wouldn't be wise to preserve this type of content, even though this strategy has gotten him some pretty good rankings?

  • Okay, great. I'm thinking on the right track here then. I'm mostly after the user's experience here. I want it to be clear they're still dealing with the same site/brand.  I have the same feeling about the 3rd party domain. I just want it all under the same umbrella here as much as I can while being able to keep this fairly easy and low cost.  Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

  • I'm glad those resources helped! There are lots of things you can do. You can frequent forums or Facebook groups to see what your target audience are talking about. Start discussions on Twitter or other social platforms. You could also put some content live and see if it resonates. I would recommend starting with this Whiteboard Friday on knowing your audience https://moz.com/blog/know-what-your-audience-wants-before-creating-content-whiteboard-friday And this one on more data driven audience analysis https://moz.com/blog/discovering-which-sites-your-target-audience-visits-whiteboard-friday Let me know how you get on Cheers!
