  • I don't understand. If I do a 301 from my blog posts to this new website, where will I direct it to if all the posts are on the blog??? I also need help with my posting. If google has already indexed my blogger posts as well as the posts from my domain, should I redirect all the posts from the blogger to my domain using the 301 or do I do something else?

  • Thanks for the kind compliment, Dino. Sounds like hunting down citations may be your smartest move. Google draws from so many sources and even a little confusion of data can lead to significant problems. Good luck in the hunt! Miriam

  • Hi Storwell, I hear you on that. Google, for all its support of human usability, has not done anything to make the review process easy. I truly hope they can refine it in future, but they are going for authenticity, so they want everybody signed in. I'll be interested to hear if your technique works. My cell is not an iPhone, so I've not been able to test this myself. Miriam

  • Mark- Need more info.  Are you linking between the sites? Do you have truly unique content on each site for a majority of the content? Here are some reasons why you could have the issue: You are linking between the sites and passing link juice from the Uk sites to the other sites. You have duplicate content issues on the UK site ( you dont have entirely unique content on the UK site). For example, you might have 60-70% of the same verbiage on the NY site as the UK site. Assuming that the NY site is being seen by Google as the original site with this content, then the UK site content will be seen as duplicate content and will be discounted in  SEO value. If you run an opensite explorer report on each site, you will be able to see what type of authority the pages have for specific keywords and then this will help you determine if you have the above issue..... Hope this helps. Mark

  • Hi, you can start with this helpful tool: http://schema-creator.org/organization.php . Once you have filled the text fileds you're ready to go. You can add rich snippets wherever is necessary. You may use it for company's adress/informations for example. And then test it: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets I used them on this page (in the footer): http://www.posamarmizanon.it/servizi_posa_lucidatura_marmi_graniti.html I also suggest you to check out this Introduction guide from google: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=eng&answer=99170

  • Hi Joel, That's an interesting nugget about Bing taking into consideration the code being used for the site, especially in relation to older versions of IE. Would you be able to share where you heard that information so we can get a little more background? I'm more familiar with Microsoft trying to get people away from using older versions of IE, such as this page from Microsoft with "Death to IE6" in the title tag. http://www.ie6countdown.com/

  • PDFs accumulate and pass link equity, so add a link back to your site in the PDF itself to avoid it becoming a dead end. An added bonus is the many sites that scrape user manuals and other PDFs and republish them, usually with your link intact.

  • Andy, Thanks for the confirmation. I will, indeed, keep writing for human readers, but with wide-open eyes on how Google interprets what we write. Have a great day! John

  • That link is really bothering me. I have never personally used that dirty piece of software, and I've contacted the guy who owns the website several times asking him to remove that link. It appears other links have been built without my knowledge but nothing OTT. So I don't think that's the issue. The drop on Jan 20th is just too much of a coincidence. I've lost over $20k. Fortunately Adsense ecpm is a lot higher, after decreasing bounce rate etc. Despite how it may appear, I've actually got quite a lot of experience fixing Google penalties. This is the first time I've ever been stumped and with it being my own site and getting desperate, I've made some choices against my better judgement. I've also hired a couple of other SEO's, which is actually how I ended up on a wild goose chase, trying to combat Panda, when I was certain it wasn't the issue. I did submit a reconsideration request and got the automated response that there was no manual penalties. I may take the loss and remove the ads for a week, at the end of the day, I need to get to the bottom of it. Thanks a lot for all your input Ryan.

  • Thanks very much Keri. It's refreshing to know that people like Doug and yourself care enough to help people like me especially after getting hacked by some of the baddies out there. Thanks for your advice. It's much appreciated. Colin

  • Once you have stepped up your game and you have some money, go to Market Motive and take Avinash's Analytics class. http://www.marketmotive.com/internet-marketing-training-and-certification-signup?top=home&topic=WebAnalytics It's not always about SEO. For my clients, it's about more money in the bank. SEO is only a part of the puzzle.

  • If you have thousands of articles that are not pulling search traffic, dropping them from your site allows the PR that's trapped in those pages to flow into the rest of the site.

  • Same with me. The index page disappeared but internal pages started ranking, but not as high. It might not be penguin. Google sent out all those email's pre-penguin scaring the life out of webmasters. If you think about it, 700,000 emails sent out by Google. If only half of them took pages down, we are talking 350,000 pages missing. If the other 350,000 cancelled or deleted lots of incoming links to their sites/pages too and you had a links across a few to 1000 of these, you are going/have lost a load of link power. Have a look on LinkDetective.com. I think its quite accurate. After Penguin I lost nearly 13% of links (dead links) and I never deleted or asked for any links to be cancelled or terminated. Makes you wonder if there really was a Penguin update or if google just scared the webmaster community into deleting dodgy or paid links or getting rid of pages or sites with dodgy links. I visited loads of forums, watched post-penguin videos etc and the general consensus is to carry on link building but try to get it more natural. Get your links pointing to you with your domain as the anchor. However, you may be lucky, and when you get crawled again with no server error, things may return to normal. It is possible to do a 'fetch' through your webmaster account on the pages that had the error, but I think you are limited to about 100 fetches. See if any navigational pages can be fetched. They could get crawled quicker and help get the errors sorted. Good luck with everything.
