  • Hi Perfect Pitch Concepts, Bede has pretty much said it all in his awesome response! I'll only add, as you build out those new pages on your website, make maximum effort to make them totally unique and helpful to the user. Don't take the shortcut of publishing duplicate or thin pages. Find great things to write about regarding your client's involvement in his new service areas.

  • Option A seems to be the best option as it can pass linkjuice you could get on a deep page (training-course/date/time) to the main course page.

  • Something's going on but not determined what yet. I've seem a fair amount of movement in the SERPs for non-US territories (UK, IE, SE, IN, DE, FR, CH, +). Assuming Google are denying a Pan-guin update of any sort there are a few theories about what it could be. Crawl based link devaluation. I'm inclined to think that this has something to do with linking but it would make sense that they include Penguin within the main algo if they can do it as they go. Specifically might have an effect on old links as well as spammy links. Alternatively might be ignoring anchor text on low PR sites. Maybe ignoring some directories specifically. Disavow data. Doubt they've had time to sort through the amount of data they've been getting, but they'll have to look at it at some point. User metrics. CTR, return to SERPs within same session, refined searches. I'm not leaning towards this one as most of what I've seen slip has been among the (if not 'the') best result. Social signal devaluation If Facebook can figure out what likes are fake then Google can probably see which 'authors' are fake. They're definitely pushing for authorship, rolling out something to figure out who's legit could have an impact, but I'm not sure authorship rank is a big enough of a part of the algo currently to affect this kind of change. EMD update. Not keen on this as a theory. Not seen anything to back it up and plenty of EMDs still up there. Google are telling lies! Somebody's made a change and they're not letting on or haven't told the people communicating the changes. Ultimately I'm shooting in the dark here. Although I'm seeing a lot of changes not all of my sites have been effected and I'm doing similar promotion for most. If anybody wants to chime in maybe we can put our heads together. I'm seeing a bit more clustering again with the same domain showing up more often in the results (though not as bad as it was). Anybody else seeing any sort of pattern?

  • This action is pretty much possible as Google can pick the most relevant description or title for your page if your given description or title is week against the key phrase. I have the similar kind of thing on my website where I witness a different title tag upon keyword and different with the brand name. This is common... if you want Google to stop it you should try concrete and more powerful descriptions.

  • Hi Vegitss, Great topic as I'm actually working on a blog post about this as we speak. Since Penguin and the over-optimization updates, we've seen an explosion of "click here" and "example.com" links in an effort to "normalize" folks' backlink profiles. The article that David mentioned on Microsite Masters did a lot to propel this myth. But there's a downside too. Links like "click here" don't communicate much information to Google about context. In fact, the last time Google updated it's SEO Starter Guide, it officially discouraged these types of links: Avoid: writing generic anchor text like "page", "article", or "click here" using text that is off-topic or has no relation to the content of the page linked to using the page's URL as the anchor text in most cases - although there are certainly legitimate uses of this, such as promoting or referencing a new website's address Bill Slawski has written extensively about anchor text and their use in Phrase Based Indexing through Google patent filings. If I may quote one of his summaries: "Anchor text in links pointing to a page that include the phrase or a related phrase (one that tends to co-occur on pages that rank for that phrase) should be given more weight than anchor text that doesn’t." Of course, a lot has changed in the past couple of years. Google is undoubtedly much better at using contextual analysis and techniques like co-citation at inferring link context. So I do my best to avoid generic anchors whenever possible. 4 alternatives to generic anchors that I like to use include: Brand/Business Name - I see it's on your list - There is potential for problems if your brand name is also keyword rich, like "Best Blue Widgets Inc" - This is almost the same as exact match keywords, so it's best to proceed cautiously. People's Names - Such as folks who work in your organization. Got this tip from Dan Shure - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dt_0u98gVE Partial Match - The problem with partial match is that folks over-do it. Loan Payday Loan Fast Cash Loan... These are obviously intended for search engines and not for users. A true partial match anchor text puts the user first, like "find consumer friendly loan options here" or "a great borrowing program" are more indicative of what I would prefer. Related Text - Again, from Bill Slawski - "(as defined by the phrase-based indexing patents) than generic text, especially if the anchor text gives potential visitors a good idea of what they might find on the other side of a link." Of course, I could be wrong about all of this. But I think if we look at Google's intent - create content for users and not search engines - adopting this strategy will go much further long term than any short term gains had by trying to "trick" search engines by using "click" here type anchor text. Just my 2 cents

  • Have you review your backlinks in Open Site Explorer? Some of them look a little fishy, especially the ones for kriskris with the anchor text "lose weight fast" from sights that are mainly in Chinese and also have links to viagra and other such sites (http://www.xshz.com.cn/shownews.asp?id=220 for example).

  • Darren is absolutely right. However, it seems unclear as to whether or not you set up 301-redirects from your old URLs to your new URLs. If you did, then the drop should only be temporary as Google figures out where the new URLs are and the old authority is passed to the new pages (or at least most of it). If you didn't do any 301-redirects, and you still have access to a spreadsheet or sitemap of your old URLs I'd encourage you to set up 301 redirects as soon as possible. Otherwise, it will indeed be like starting completely over with a new site, regardless of hyphens or underscores.

  • 1. No, it doesn't affect your SERP. For some mobile browsers, Google will display a small phone icon near your webiste in the search results, to notify the users that your website is mobile-friendly. 2. There is no way, other than submitting maybe your website to mobile directories or resource websites.

  • Hi Samuel I checked his backlink profile, he is on no. 2 for Search term "f--k buddy" & he is getting links from unique 27 domains. I see his backlinks too, backlinks are not so good.. I think the reason why his ranking is not drop or are on no.2 is because of his domain name & the domain age (Created Date : 1st May 2006).. Hope this helps.
