  • Thanks - I know about the apparent dupe there, I had canonical tag, removed it. I'll check on reconsideration request,

  • Hi, Just had my latest crawl test completed and unfortunately I am still getting thousands of Dup Page Title / Content errors. It seems that adding /subfolder/my__forum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=* to my disallowed list hasn't worked. Can you think of anyting else I can try? Thanks guys Gareth

  • Hmm, what about a G+ business page that is not verified?  ie if I want to post something on a G+ community as the service company, I can not do that without a company page... Is it really best to delete the company G+ page? Lets say wee add a G+ button to our site, that links to the G+ page, correct? Do we not have the same privileges other sites do because we are a service?

  • It has to be noindex because our development team does not have the capacity to make these websites unique structure/template from our main site. For example - the main site is www.red.com and the new site will be www.blue.com and the only way to launch www.blue.com is to have it basically be the same site as www.red.com (and it needs to be launched now for legal reasons). We are also launching localized versions of our website such as www.red.co.uk and are planning on using the canonical tag for these sites.  However, I thought that for the sites with a different URL we could risk having Google see us as a Network since the content will be so similar and traffic flowing in both directions - and this is something important to avoid so in order to use the completely new sites they need to be separate in terms of content, ip, hosting, etc... (and have traffic only flow in one direction). Do you disagree?

  • Definitely too many times since the end of last month. Server problems do happen and I've never come across a 100% perfect host, but a site going down 4 times in just a few weeks is no good, especially if it's for more than just a few seconds. I would talk to your host and see if they have an explanation...and if not, I'd search for a new one.

  • I actually agree with what Mark Ginsberg said that it might be an SEO firm we hired way in the past (we don't have anyone for over 6 months) and might have pipe lined articles on our behalf. But yes, main keywords to the exact landing pages

  • No way ..   however, Google Webmaster Tools never have any link to this tool probably they feel that it is not safe for everyone and people may try this powerful feature for fun. You can find the option here still intact  http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main

  • Internal linking is a space where nothing works more than experiments and trying... talking from the experience that with reference to internal linking the website reacts differently... i think overdoing of links from video to category pages will be a bit of a problem in my opinion but if you set it nicely then i guess its fine!

  • No worries. And, I agree with you on the drawbacks. I know I've made changes like this before and caused more problems than I think I had in the first place

  • I would try to make the 301s fit where they fit best.  Surely he still has some of the same type of pages - contact page, some informational pages, etc?  When I redid my SEO page, I had a lot of "loose" pages lying around. I put them on what I thought they fit best - so instead of having 3 or 4 sales pages, now I have 1.  I redirected all 3 to the 1. Where would your biggest issues be? He will have had old canonical links and new ... is so much changed that the site isn't really related to the old?  If you want more info, you may have to give a bit more on exact issues. ~M

  • Paul, Thanks for your reply! I have used the paid version of Screaming Frog with regex to exclude pages with certain parameters, but I have not tried the custom queries. Could you give me an example of a custom query that would find empty canonical tags? That would be extremely helpful.
