  • Hi there. Sorry for late reply. Been busy Answered from ipad - so structure was totally messed up in my reply. Sorry! From SeoConsult.com: "But it’s not until a recent study was conducted by SEO Moz that we realised just how much fluctuation was happening on a daily basis. On average 80% of SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) that were tracked changed every 24 hours over a period of 30 days. Granted most of these changes were small (1 or 2 positions) but for someone who is on page 1 for their favourite keyword this can have a big effect, everyone knows there’s a huge difference from position 1 to position 3. 4 out of 5 SERPS change every day which shows just how dynamic the ranking game has become in 2012." This sounds like normal fluctuation, but what you describe is more than that. I have not seen this myself, but perhaps everybody is working hard at SEO - hence changes are ongoing: This could be relevant for you: http://www.seobook.com/rank-modifying-spammers "So, Google may shift the rankings of your site, in what appears to be a random manner, before Google settles on a target rank" Is it far fetched to believe that sometimes google "randomise" the fSERP to achieve more biased data to calculate from CTR?. If I had a hard time choosing which page to present for customers I would A/B-test it. Perhaps google is A/B-testing the SERP for your keyword? By the way : I have keywords changing back and forward from 19 to 39 within a day. But I guess it is very different when it comes to first page SERP. Update: During the last week your rankings have been pretty steady for both keywords: Turnstiles steady at #4-5 Time and attendance Software at #18-19

  • I don't think anyone really knows how much of the text needs to be unique in order to trigger Panda. I just finished an audit for a site that had pages that had content that was completely duplicated on another site, yet the information was all in a different order than the other site.  The site was not affected by Panda.  But does that mean that simply changing up the order of text is enough to evade Panda?  One case like this is not enough to prove anything. I think you need more than just a change in the meta description though.

  • Go do a search for "property" and "properties" on Google. You will see that the results that are returned are different. This is because Google treats singulars and plurals as different keywords. Someone searching for "property" has a different search intent than someone searching for "properties". Think about the search intent of someone searching for property vs properties. Properties to me suggests someone looking for a list of a bunch of different properties on one page, whereas "property" seems more specific. If you think that your page is relevant to both queries, then include both keywords on the page and possibly in the title to increase your relevance for those terms. Get backlinks to that page using both keywords as anchor text. If you don't think your page can adequately serve people searching for both keywords, then it makes sense to create two separate pages targeted at each keyword. Yes, this can be done in a spammy way, but it can also be done in a way that adds value to the user and provides a better fit for what your user is searching for.

  • This is the code you want to add to your /htaccess file: #Options +FollowSymlinks Options +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch RewriteEngine on rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] redirect 301 index.html http://www.domain.com/ This will make it so http://www.domain.com/ is the correct link for your site. This should not result in any redirect loops unless you already have redirects in place.

  • Hi Nakul, Forgive me if this is too simplistic... The following rewrite rules should cover the examples you provided: RedirectMatch 301 red-widgets-cid-1234.html http://www.domain.com/red-widgets-cid-4567.html RedirectMatch 301 red-widgets-cid-1234- http://www.domain.com/red-widgets-cid-4567.html RedirectMatch 301 red-widgets-cid-1234+ http://www.domain.com/red-widgets-cid-6789.html We just need to escape the special characters (period, hyphen and plus sign). This should cover the examples you provided, and no need for any elaborate RegEx patterns. Of course, if there are variants your example doesn't mention, things could get more complicated. (I'm also assuming here you're on an Apache environment.) If I've misunderstood your question or the situation is more complicated than your example demonstrates, let me know. Thanks, Mike

  • Can you provide a few example URL's of this error.  I will take a closer look and give you a better response.

  • Separate sites are better than subdomains, but you probably could have done this all under the one main domain. If you're doing interlinking i would nofollow the links, or if you need to dofollow the links then i would only link from the microsites to the main site.

  • For what it's worth and to update my previous response, see this from Search Engine Land. I think the URL is self-explanatory: http://searchengineland.com/links-from-press-releases-do-have-ranking-benefit-despite-what-google-says-145139

  • Hi, Thanks for the video, a novelty to say the least. Again I think your response just further justifies the changes i am going to make to the primary nav. Thanks again. Regards Craig

  • Hard to say, but I'd be hesitant to include any "money" keyword in sitewide footer links.

  • Thanks for sharing. I've always built using pages as well, and the pages as posts idea was presented to me as, I guess, just a way to keep the webmaster in one place when in the dashboard. By webmaster, I mean basically a word processor. It actually sounds more confusing now, especially the idea of them forgetting to tag something as a page and having to search through hundreds of posts a few years from now. Good reasoning, and I think I'll stick to the traditional architecture.

  • If he is an aspx developer, send him this. Thinking about it, its better than the jquery. It would go to the url you set, read in the html outputted, and echo is onto the page.
