Duplicate Page Content - Shopify
Hello Chris, I saw that Brett added rel="canonical" to his product template in shopify but wouldn't that tell Google not to look at all the products now? (ignore them) What if you want the images and the content of your product pages indexed by Google and showing up in results? Thank you!

How correcttly redirect to http://m.mobile.com website
Is it a redirect you actually want? Using a redirect would mean that mobile users would see your non-mobile site and this isn't a good user experience. If it is a redirect you are after (because you no longer want your mobile domain) then you must use a 301 permanent redirect if you want to pass any SEO goodness from old domain to new domain. Where possible redirect relative mobile pages to desktop pages (e.g. mobile homepage to desktop homepage and mobile blue shoes page to desktop blue shoes page). If it's not a redirect that you are after you may be looking for information on canonical and alternate tags. This allows you to have both sites running duplicate content without it affecting rankings and helps search engines understand the relationship between your mobile and desktop versions. More information here https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details But, ideally your website would be built using responsive design, then you wouldn't need a redirect or canonical tags for mobile site. Hope that helps. Davinia

Updated Wordpress version and installed SEO plugin, ranking went down
Hi Safia, If you saw an immediate change in rankings then there probably was an issue or something affected your rankings before you upgrade and installed the SEO plugin. Google is in most cases not able to directly crawl your site and recalculate the index for specific keywords.

Any arguments against eliminating all (non-blog) subfolders?
Having some level of structure in you site can be helpful for analytics, too. For Moz for example, we can look at everything happening on the blog by looking at /blog, everything on Q&A by looking at /community/q/, etc.

Dramatic Ranking Changes
Usually your site tends to bounce around a lot when it's new, as Google tries to figure out where you belong in your SERPs. If your site has been around for 10 years, then that's probably not the case. Personalization is the first culprit I would look to, and if it wasn't that then it could just be Google testing a new algo tweak.

If we remove all of the content for a branch office in one city from a web site, will it harm rankings for the other branches?
Thanks, Kyle. I appreciate the thorough response. These are great points, many of which, I tried to make without success. Everyone tried to keep the site together, and indeed the majority of the concern is definitely for the defecting office, but this particular branch seems pretty determined to go its own way. Some SEO companies can be so persuasive...top 3 ranking for every keyword under the sun...guaranteed. So, now the main goal for the group is to ensure that the rest of the branches in the organization to not have any negative SEO impact as a result of this switch. Thanks again.

Rich Snippets
I think it is. Crawlers might understand data-vocabulary, but if they're not committed to using it when creating search results, you might miss out on things like Google's new product search info panels. Google's actually still using a number of different microdata formats right now, but kind of as a means of a fallback method, so it could be phased out in the future (for example, we all know Open Graph is Facebook's gig) Schema.org is the only one which the big three search companies have all pledged to support in the future, so any new features that improve search results are likely to happen first to schema.org

HELP! How does one prevent regional pages as being counted as "duplicate content," "duplicate meta descriptions," et cetera...?
Are they showing as duplicate content within Moz Analytics? As long as the search engines don't see it as duplicate content you shouldn't have a problem. Here are some things to check for: The content should be localised as best as possible (e.g. the differences between US, Canadian and British English). I'm not sure it's possible with your sites, but things like contact details and local currency can help send the right signals to Google etc. - so the address and phone number if you have a HQ in each country. Each site should be registered separately with Bing and Google Webmaster Tools and geotargeted to the relevant location. Use the hreflang attribute if you're not already (triple-check to make sure it is set up properly): https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en - you can set Canadian English (en-ca) and Canadian French (fr-ca) - the language always comes before the country. As you mentioned your terms and conditions, I noticed a lot of companies are using very similar wording to yours, so that could be an issue of duplicate content that features on completely different websites. You could rewrite the t's and c's, though I wouldn't see any harm in noindexing those particular pages.

What is going on with Pinterest ?
Thank you for the feedback Martijn, I was aware that Pinterest was technically a No follow domain. However in my regular link profile updates and reviews I have noticed them turning to Do follow and back to No follow again. I was wondering if anyone was noticing the same thing ?

Do image "lightbox" photo gallery links on a page count as links and dilute PageRank?
Here is the best answer to your question. Dr. Pete did a great job rating this article. http://moz.com/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many More info here http://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/understanding-site-architecture-with-xenu-and-excel/ http://www.searchenginesbook.com/absolutelinks.html Thomas

How to deal with duplicates on an e-commerce website
Thanks dude. But there's a of these pages, the damage control is just too much. But if I set products as configurable can Google read the products that are not visible individually or it just reads the configurable. We use Magento so it creates simple product variations which are then used to create the configurable. Like if you visit samsonite.com they have different products of different variations but it is one product that is configurable.

Best Way to Optimize 38 Local Directory Listing In Major Directories
This is probably too late to help, but here goes... We actually had this exact same issue with a client. Ideally we would use a toll free number for all locations. These locations do interact with customers, but it is not the preferred method for new customers to contact us. (about 30% of transactions occur with the local location and 70% happen online, or with the call center) In the end we sent in all the information ourselves but had each location verify by having a postcard sent to them. This was a huge pain. We had to contact each location manager as the post card was sent and have them make sure every employee who might touch the mail was aware that the postcard was coming. I believe it was worth it. Everything is managed from the corporate office as well. But we had to make sure everything was verified properly. We are also a little wary of messing with anything Google has set up because we didn't want to have to go back and undo, then redo everything we set up. I do have a follow up question for you, and anyone else who cares to chime in. Do you think there is value in having social media pages for every location? Just managing the corporate social media pages requires staff. To manage for 45 locations seems like an overwhelming task. However, if the value is really there, it is something we would have interest in exploring. Best, Joe
