  • Thank you for Ryan, I also read this post after posting my question, and also read another post about getting traffic dropping after moving blog from XXX.com/blog to blog.XXX.com. https://iwantmyname.com/blog/2015/01/seo-penalties-of-moving-our-blog-to-a-subdomain.html  And I will show our boss the disadvantage of moving support form subfolder to subdomain. Thank you!

  • Good answer Ryan. Moreover, Howard, remember that Google - via John Mueller - advised that if site A is penalized, simply deleting it and cloning in a new domain B but not having solved the issues that cause site A being penalized, that won't "save" domain B from being penalized too after short time.

  • H2s are valuable, but in the context of organizing information on a page. Let's stick with the "Wheelchair Accessible Houses for sale in Houston" example. That phrase could be the H1.  A great H2 would be, "Single Level Homes" Another, "Houses with Wheelchair Elevators" "Homes with Power Stair Lifts" and so on. Even though the main theme / keyword is the H1 example, all of those H2s are going to contribute to it and help the user navigate to the types of homes they're most interested in. you could also link to those sections of the page with on-page anchor links (#) to make navigation simpler (or dynamically rendered). So what I'm saying is they don't need to have the exact phrase you're targeting in each one as you used in your example above.

  • Hi Kane, thanks for that. After a fair bit of trawling the internet I eventually found the article below which provides a great way of doing what I wanted. For anyone else with an application built on rails (of which I'm sure there are quite a few!) then the following might make a lot of sense to those wishing to utilize the benefits of a Wordpress blog platform: https://medium.com/@parterburn/wordpress-inside-a-ruby-on-rails-app-c324fbf39ad8

  • Brand or domain anchor text links are far more natural than keyword anchor text. Gaining links that are brand or raw domain from an authority site will benefit your sites authority. I always look at it like this - if you didn't know anything about SEO and you liked a site that you wanted to link to and this site sold blue widgets for example would you link via the domain/brand name or by entering "blue widgets"? You would go with the more obvious, easier option domain or brand - hence this is far more natural in the eyes of Google and far more likely to have been earned naturally. Increasing authority is all about earning links not (dare I say it..) link building. Focus on creating great content and making people aware of it then the links will start to come naturally. SEO isn't a quick fix, so approach this with a strategy looking to build a quality online presence and establish a relevant audience for your site through social and other channels.

  • Looks like a lot of good information from folks here so I'll be brief. Technically, there's no practical way to redirect the page without redirecting the links. Unless your page serves a 404 or 410 response code, those links will be associated with your domain. The only way to disassociate yourself from these links is through use of the Disavow Tool.

  • Hi there, and welcome! Wow, you've asked a lot of great questions. Would you mind asking them one at a time as new questions? You are more likely to get each question answered completely that way.

  • Im not sure your really in the right place for that kind of question (its not really SEO related, more technical web development) To point you in the right direction though, stackoverflow is a good resource for development questions: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14520036/how-to-detect-user-is-on-a-mobile-device-and-offer-app

  • John Mueller Webmaster Central Hangouts.  Learnt quite alot from these hangouts over the last few months, and you can also submit your questions to be answered.

  • Hi Tamir, Matt has already done a great job in answering this and I would add just a small side note - my guess for the new domain came from someone reading that keyword matching between domains and content was a great way to get better results in SERPs. It's antiquated thinking but that's what it looks like (adding "travel" to the domain in the hopes that potential customers would better understand what they were all about). As Matt said, the big issue is the way the redirects were handled (should be 301'd to a similar site structure for the smallest possible rankings impact). If you were to create a site structure similar to that found on the previous site, you would probably see a return to those traffic levels (or close) fairly quickly. Another method might be to re-institute the previous site by reloading the site map on the old domain (there are tools for this). This would permit you to use the old site until you could get a proper site structure set up for the new one. You don't have to move back to the previous website permanently, but it wouldn't be a bad idea until to have sorted out what you want to do with the new site moving forward. A properly-executed 301 redirect should cost you between 1-3% of your overall link juice. Hope this helps a bit. Rob

  • Agree with Ryan - if you want to make changes - better make the image name a descriptive one. Also, take care if you get search traffic from image search - changing the name of your images could cause a big negative impact on your traffic. In my experience the image index is updated slower than the normal index - so if 2554.jpg is indexed and you change it to 6842.jpg or even better red-ford-truck.jpg the image in the result will return a 404 and be replaced by the same image from another site (if it's a stock photo) or dropped from the results. Better to keep the old image in the initial location until the index is updated rgds Dirk

  • Of course adding unique content is the only way. add unique categories description if you have a blog, last excerpt of posts related to the category alternative categories info try to figure out possible user generated content, category related define an algo to present different set of products for each category, even if many products fall on multiple categories you don't have to show always exactly the same multiple product descriptions for the same peoduct, one for each category... do some brainstorming and you will come up with more ideas

  • Hi Joseph. This will probably be the quickest way for you to gain links. Go to the OSE Link Opportunities Tab: https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/opportunities/link-intersect?site=fillinyoursite.com At top, add your site, in the the tab "Link Intersect" add competitors. Look at ways to acquire links where your competition has them, but you do not. This varies quite a bit, sometimes you're emailing someone, sometimes it's a relationship over social, sometimes PR, and so on.

  • Hello StoryScout, I apologize for the wait on this. You may get a response sooner next time by providing more detail. Could you please elaborate on the situation and what you're trying to accomplish? What content management system or shopping cart system is your client's website on now? What do you mean by "link their website to eBay"? Do you mean linking an affiliate feed so your client can earn eBay affiliate revenue? Do you mean hyperlinking to a page on eBay, such as your client's eBay store landing page and/or product pages? Do you just want an "iframe" of their eBay store on their site? Or are you looking to migrate their entire store over to eBay? I look forward to helping further if I can.

  • That Stack Overflow discussion goes into getting Google Tag Manager up and running. It's best to clean up URLs to get as many as possible pointing to HTTPS.  That way you're not making unnecessary redirection hops with things you can control.  Cheers!

  • Hi, From above example I can tell you very clearly that keyword with UK is less competitive that is why keywords with UK appearing on better position in comparison to other keywords even without doing any seo. Second as you said that you are not doing any seo but I presume you could have use UK anywhere on webpage or define target country as UK  in webmaster tools . If that is not the case your site is ranking for UK keywords because your domain is co.uk Thanks
