SSL Certificate valid for SEO https
As long as you properly redirect all pages to the https version, you should be fine. Google released an update a while back stating that secure sites could perform better in search results as it offered users additional security and trust. If you are going through the trouble of updating your site to an SSL, I would set the entire site to fall under the https, not just the payment pages. Google will like it, users will like it. The only drawback I can see is if your account is set up to use shared IP's, in which case you may have to make some modifications if required by your development team. Here is the quote from Google on this subject: "Security is a top priority for Google. We invest a lot in making sure that our services use industry-leading security, like strong HTTPS encryption by default. That means that people using Search, Gmail and Google Drive, for example, automatically have a secure connection to Google. Beyond our own stuff, we’re also working to make the Internet safer more broadly. A big part of that is making sure that websites people access from Google are secure. For instance, we have created resources to help webmasters prevent and fix security breaches on their sites. We want to go even further. At Google I/O a few months ago, we called for “HTTPS everywhere” on the web. We’ve also seen more and more webmasters adopting HTTPS (also known as HTTP over TLS, or Transport Layer Security), on their website, which is encouraging. For these reasons, over the past few months we’ve been running tests taking into account whether sites use secure, encrypted connections as a signal in our search ranking algorithms. We've seen positive results, so we're starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it's only a very lightweight signal — affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content — while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web." It's worth mentioning that if the SEO on the site stinks, an SSL will not rescue it from the bowels of page 10 ranking status. Hope this helps!

Multiple Blog Postings
We both posted at the same time. We both recommended Rand's post and I like how you say that sometimes the site or the niche might not require sending out the entire United States Navy.

ScreamingFrog won't crawl my site.
Hi, Thank you for this question and the responses because we encountered the same issue; Screaming Frog was only crawling a handful of products out of hundreds, because of JS. We made significant changes to the redirect rules on our dev site, and we want to make sure that the changes will not cause any crawling errors before we deploy to the live site. Is there any way to disable JS just for the purpose of a Screaming Frog crawl? Our dev site is: https://msc-nop.com Our regular site is: https://medicalscrubscollection.com Thanks in advance!

Anyone know how to outrank a stock ticker symbol?
Hi Matt, In circumstances like this, it is generally down to the fact that your clients company doesn't carry the trust and authority to outrank the ticker. If someone searches for the acronym, I am assuming that most want to find the stock info, rather than your client. Of course, this is something you need to change. This can only come from building that trust. Google made a change a while back that gave more bias to brands - this is where you want to be. There is a wonderful article here on Search Engine Land that I suggest you spend some time going through as it will take you through many steps that you would need to take. The same with the article here on MOZ. -Andy

Hreflang Tags with Errors in Google Webmaster Tools

What would you do with this odd Blog configuration?
In reality it's up to you. If you think the site makes more sense using the /blog/BLOGPOST format, then go for it. It can help search engines and users to understand that this is the blog section of the site. If all of your posts fall under a certain category or topic, you could also change the separator to use something that is more SEO-friendly, such as yoursite.com/marketing/your-blog-post. The whole site and all the linked pages share your "homepage authority". Because you are not using a blog URL in between makes little difference. Your sitemap is the area that you can set the importance of these pages, which we generally set as a 5 or 6 out of 10 if you are concerned about the way that they show up in accordance with your main site in search results. Also, it may take a bit of time to process all the redirects, so see if that is truly a matter of importance. Hope this helps!

Website architecture - levels vs filters and authority loss - Enterprise SEO
Hi Ryan, Thank you for your advise. The marketplace is going to be a big site so I think we will go with using both filters (mostly for product segmentation) and folders for blog pages, contact pages and so forth. Thanks again.

Sitemap Indexation
if you have a /sitemap.xml file you shouldn't need an html one unless you find users are using it and finding it helpful.

Using on two pages a keyword in alternative language in the title
Hi there Ideally, if you're trying to capture regional or international traffic, you would have different directories or ccTLDs dedicated to targeted content for specific audiences in different countries. You can learn about how to do so here: International SEO (Moz) The International SEO Checklist (Moz) By following the resources above, you can target your site and content more specifically which would see you having much better chances of success in international visibility. To me, it just creates a confusing user experience (most important) and can also confuse crawlers, decreasing your chances of visibility, especially if it's not targeted. It could potentially be viewed as spammy as well, since the site is in English, and you're trying to capitalize on foreign traffic. Review the resources above and those will help guide you. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Where do we focus from an SEO perspective?
Hi there I answered a similar question recently in another Q+A thread - you can read that here. But, if that's not possible for knowledge or resource reasons, some of the above will require a professional and technical expertise. I highly suggest you take advantage of the Recommended Companies from Moz - there are a TON of experts there that can help you take care of these issues if you're not equipped to do so yourself. If you are interested in learning some tactics yourself, Moz has a great learning section to read through - it will help you immensely going forward. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Questions on Google Penguin Clean-up Strategy
You're very welcome. When I'm auditing links, I don't pay huge attention to DA and PA. You can still have unnatural links on a high DA site. But, it's often harder for a site owner to axe those links because if you're wrong, you're going to end up losing some PageRank. With that said, links on resource pages can often be ok. If your link is relevant to the page then it may be ok. But, let's say you were a realtor and you had links on the resource page of all sorts of casino sites, baby apparel sites, exercise equipment sites, etc. then it's pretty obvious that you were just getting links wherever someone would trade a link. The other thing to consider is scale and whether there is a link scheme going on. The Google Quality Guidelines tell us that creating resource pages solely for the purpose of linking is not a good thing. So, again, if you were a realtor and you had links from 100 other realtors and all of those realtors were linking with each other, there's a good chance that Google will see this as a link scheme. It may or may not be picked up by Penguin but I've seen sites get manual penalties for link schemes like this. It's hard to answer the question without seeing more of the link profile, but in general, if you have a link on a resource page and it legitimately makes sense for them to be linking to you and it's not part of an elaborate link scheme then I'd keep that link. Sometimes the decisions in cases like this can be hard though.

How long will this Site be punished? (place your bets!)
Yah it took us 6 reconsideration letters to get out of the 'manual penalty'. I thought you meant there was another way to contact them after the fact.

URL Errors for SmartPhone in Google Search Console/Webmaster Tools
Haha, you wrote this as I was writing my reply to you both below. Yup! That earlier Q&A is a great resource. Screaming Frog should give you insight into where the links might have gone bad. 301 redirection is always an option as well for the few links that may be causing issues. Cheers!

Duplicate content, the distrubutors are copying the content of the manufacturer
I recommend the manufacturer creates two separate descriptions - one for themselves, and one for their distributors. Requires more work, but I think is a nice solution to this problem.

I'm invisible!
Update: The bad links have been disavowed and WMT does not mention them anymore (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/external-links). Also the no-follow tags have been removed. Still working on high-quality links (:-)) and im trying to add content on a daily basis. So far no results.

Will obfuscating HTML have a bad effect on my ranking?
Hey, Yes, it may impact. Here I mean, if it's creating crawling & confusion for search engines and readers then you might see a drop. Always make sure, the important HTML tags that are crucial for SEO like meta and header tags are properly placed and not repeating, canonical issues are addressed and unnecessary scripting is not there. Seo for international sites
Patrick has answered your question. Are you specifically asking how to verify the clickability of the translation of the title and meta descriptions and confirm they are also optimized for SEO?
