  • Brandon- I'm a big fan of optimizing images to use descriptive names; it seems to have worked quite a bit in the past. Search engines often will look for contextual clues about the content of an image, and this includes ALT tags, photo captions, and the image name. In a Moz blog posting by Kasy Allen in 2011: http://moz.com/blog/is-optimizing-photos-more-important-than-you-think "The Google image bot definitely seems to be looking at filename and the alt tag, but it also looks at a lot of the same factors that the Google search bot looks at - title tag, meta description, heading tags, links and anchor text. If we are already focused on optimizing our individual pages, maybe it's time to remember that image optimization is just as important. Oh, and it also seems to be important that you host your own images, but you already knew that, right?" I've found that it's best to name each image during the product creation process. It's nice to have the product name and SKU in the image, and I also like to use directories, too. So if a product named Canon 50 mm f/1.4 lens in category Canon Camera Lenses, you might want to name it here with this directory structure: http://www.domain.com/images/canon/DSLR/lens/canon-50mm-f-1.4-lens.jpg But if you need to do this in a bulk fashion, you can create the category and directory structure using a spreadsheet and the concatenate feature. You can also do a find-replace on spaces in a product name to insert dashes, etc. See the screenshot here: http://www.customerparadigm.com/images/moz-screenshots/concatenation-bulk-renaming.gif You could also use LightRoom or Photoshop to help automate photo names as well.   • I think you mean Wistia.com? "Going viral" usually happens naturally. People want to share your video because it is that good/funny/shocking. What is your video of? How does it relate to your business or website? What is your end goal?

  • Google just ran a new Panda update targeting quality content. It looks for words related such as synonyms and well written content. Over use of keywords will not help you it will harm you. Google around a bit and read about Panda and quality content. It will become very clear that the methods you describe will only hurt you. @sachin-sv also makes a very valid point that your content should be written with your users in mind. This will help with trust, if users thing your English is poor they may choose to distrust your product. A regular user has no idea why you would mention the word phone so many times. Better ti choose your main key-phrase and a write a compelling sales paragraph such as Our x Phone is [sales pitch] additionally we have durable cases in multiple colours available, replacement batteries, chargers and lots more..... (try using words like mobile/cell etc... and other synonyms where appropriate, the diversity will be good) You could look for other well written sites that sell the same product and rank well in Google, take that a rewrite it with more detailed information. This is going to work much better for you and will not get you penalised for keyword stuffing.

  • Hey Josh! With the latest increase of crawl limits for all campaign, unfortunately the lowest is set for 10,000. If you have less than 10,000 pages then we will only crawl the total amount of pages you have. Takeshi has great tips on excluding certain pages from being crawled in robots.txt Our user-agent is rogerbot so an example would be User-agent: rogerbot Disallow: /categories/ Hope this helps!

  • It doesn't really matter that much if you use the alt text, and title well to describe the image. However, I always recommend (and do it myself) renaming the image to match the title, in your case something like orange-campervan-cornwall-uk.jpg. Always use dashed to separate words, not underscores

  • Ok, I guess it's maily a matter of doing general domain wide seo then and being patient. Still not entirely sure why a subpage would be considered higher authority as the main page all other things being equal, but thanks for the answers!

A lot branding already tied to the domain that would make this into more of a total re-brand project vs. just a merger. Thanks again!

  • Yes it is true that the link is outdated, but not the key idea that it supports. You need to target the right keywords to bring the right people to your site. And as we know a SEO strategy is not just the keywords, it is also the right content and the way you display it. Meaning that you should be able to support the keywords that you chose to target.

  • We saw some similar ranking movement, in which sites rose very high, then settled towards the bottom of the page. This could possibly be due to the update getting implemented, then being finalized. I am all for the proactive approach, but I think you should wait about a week before making any changes on your site. While you are waiting to see if anything shifts again, do some competitor analysis. Take a look and see who replaced your spot. See if there is anything they do better. This way, if nothing changes you have a better plan of action of what areas need "fixing"
