Determining When You May Have Too Many Links
Agreed with Matt. It's not about "too many" but more about too many crappy links. If you get deemed with too many shite links, chances are the rest of your good links will also get devalued. Best of luck

Best way to use badges for link building?
check out this one which may or may not apply to your business. takes a bit of thought into setting it up. the only problem with this sites example is that you need to step thru a process to create it. it would be better if the code was just on the doctors page available by clicking a small button http://www.vitals.com/doctor-resources/badges take a look at the badge code once you create one, each badge generated will have it's own anchor text. If you can do something like this it makes sense, if you're going to create a badge with the same anchor text for everyone who grabs it you can get your rankings suppressed if it gets posted a lot of places.

How to do SEO for a social networking site?
Is there going to be any text on the home page at all? If so, carefully consider your wording on that page, and try to incorporate at least one keyword anywhere. Besides that it's going to be all about links. I'd highly suggest creating a blog, and using that as a way to reach out to universities and such. Find an article on an educational website that is out of date, or incomplete, and write an updated more complete version. Then contact that university to link over to your article as a resource for further reading.

Seo industry for seasonal items
Nobody ever knows for sure what their competitors are doing.... so take this comment as a "suspicion" rather than a fact....... I have a site that sells items that are really popular at Christmas. It usually ranks really well from about February through October... then the same few competitors jump above me for the Christmas season then drop several places in the SERPs shortly after New Year. I believe that they buy a big load of temporary links that are displayed starting about September 1 and are taken down at the end of December. This gives them the big boost in the SERPs for Christmas but does not have those links in their profile all year long which could flag them for manipulation. Just sayin' what I think.

Do links from the second page of an article pass link juice?
I am unable to click the canonical links EGOL provided, but i see the page two is canonicalled to itself, and the page has PR2 which is good. Maybe cut out some of the extra links in the article, for each extra link you include you dilute the PR being passed to your page. Whether or not this article is posted on other sites does not matter if he is concerned with links and PR and not as with this page ranking and bringing him traffic. If it's indexed and has PR this is a good page to be linked on, plus it's forbes which is a powerful site so i see good link building here. Mix up the anchor texts if possible between posts, even if it's off by one character or so. Please let me know if I have bad backlinks...
Hi AutoGlassRescue, The report you have made available here does not provide sufficient information to make an informed decision on your backlink situation...this report provides only the domains that link to your site. Within this list I see root domains that may well be hiding large numbers of hosted sites that might have been created for manipulative purposes. For example: wordpress.com could host just a few subdomain.wordpress.com blogs, or perhaps hundreds or even thousands. Without the actual URL list, (as you would get from the most recent links report in Webmaster tools), it is impossible to know. yahoo.com could be playing host to some harmless posts from answers.yahoo.com, or it could be concealing an orchestrated effort to manipulate search results via bogus posts on the groups.yahoo.com subdomain. Again, there might be just a few, or hundreds, or even thousands. There are a number of sites that offer individuals the option of claiming a subdomain which is essentially independent of the domain owner. These also include blogspot.com (and a range of country specific duplicates), tumblr.com and more. This Link Removal flowchart from the Bruce Clay blog will give you an idea of what to look for when analyzing your backlink profile, but you will need to be looking at individual URLs to get a clear picture of your situation. You could also take a look at our October Webinar recording and slide deck which focused on link analysis for some more information. Hope that helps, Sha

Dmoz need help
Hi Davinia, I will tell you a case of mine, so you know what I have been thinking about when I said other things. The category that I manage has two editors. We had a new submitting and the other editor picked it up, but wrote a note next to the website... then, although I found the website good and DMOZ ready (as per guidelines) I had to wait and see what the other editor have seen, why he didn't approve. Now if you are waiting for months then it could be: the editor is slow the category doesn't have an editor (why don't you apply to be an editor there?) the editor found something that is not 100% as per guidelines If someone is resubmitting all the time I usually double and triple check the website before approval. Although I am an online marketer, I am also a DMOZ editor and you need to know the DMOZ is not set up for SEO purposes only. I hope that helped and good luck with your website. Greetings, Istvan

Blog comments question
Thanks for reply. That put some confidence in my commenting activity. Anchor text titles worry me a little because if I spend the time writing a nice comment I wouldn't want it to be removed. I look at it as if I was running a blog, if someone placed an anchor text title on the comment I would straight away assume they was posting for one reason. Although I would love to gain a few more anchor text links this way. Thanks.

Hunting the White Whales?
There is several ways to obtain links from the big sites, but as you might understand, the less cost involved the more competition you are facing. Running good PR effort, might get you the attention (and links) from these big sites. Try not to promote your product as much as providing something that has significant news value related to the site you would like to get featured on. It might be a story of how you are helping in the solving of a problem users are facing, it might be funding news - ask yourself what the users of the big site would LIKE to read, and not what YOU would like them to read. Typical mistake in PR campaigns, is focusing on features instead of benefits. Adding social bookmarking to your website, might help as well, but again ask your self what the USERS would like to share, and not what YOU want the users to share. In the past, providing valuable easy-to-digest content like infographics was the way to go.

Best way to structure a service area page with many locations to maximize internal links to them?
No. What matters is that the page for each area that you service gets Indexed. Unique content is necessary for this to happen.

Do backlinks take effect as soon as they are crawled?
YES, we have a methodology that yields results both on the short and long terms. Nothing has really changed for us since those updates as we already had very cautious linkbuilding strategies done 100% manually, the hard way!

How to get fast indexing for e-commerce websites?
1. Make sure to verify your website in Google Webmaster Tools. 2. Go to the GWT Dashboard -> Health -> Fetch as Google. 3. Enter the homepage of your website in the appearing text box and click "Fetch". 4. Within a few seconds your website should be listed with fetch status "Succes". 5. Click "Submit to index" and select " URL and all linked pages". In less than a few hours your entire website (presuming it has a smooth linking structure) will be indexed to Google.

Sort of lost my way - Links, SEO
Yes scraper sites are common and again devalued by Google. But, you are judged by the company you keep. So cleaning up an ugly link profile is important.
