Continuous variation of a keyword
What I find strange is the keyword disappear for a day or two and then come back, often. Normal would not be lose her position and then win or vice versa?

Keywords in URL:
Usually you won't need the plural form. As for your main question, I agree with previous responders: Option #2!

IPAD AND IPHONE RESULTS
Lets say, some sites that are normally ranked high on Google could be displayed completly wrong on iPad or iPhone devices, so this different results based on wich platform the user is using would make a perfect sense. Anyway would like to read more on the subject if anyone have any info about it.

Is an Overflow SEO friendly
Ryan, Why do you say z-indexing is a blackhat trick? I use it for my float bar on a few of my pages just to keep it on top, and it moves with the scrolling of the page. I'm not hiding anything with it.

Optimizing Wordpress Categories
A quick little tip, whatever SEO plugin you choose, make sure you choose one you like and want to continue to use. If you write a bunch of meta descriptions in one plugin and decide to switch you'll need to figure out how to migrate your existing descriptions or you'll lose them. This is not so much an issue for categories as it is for posts and WordPress ages.

Blog content on homepage - Dupe Content Penalty?
I discovered recently that you can control the blog page appearance in your profile settings, and view just snippets if you'd like for the SEOmoz and YOUmoz blog pages. I prefer the snippets myself. I haven't gone geeky and looked at how it's presented to the bots.

Too many On-Page Links on a WP based Website
If you decide you absolutely must use tags I recommend creating or buying a wordpress theme that only shows post excerpts on the tag pages. That should help with duplicate content. Categories in WordPress are better for SEO b/c wordpress stores a description for categories and SEO plugins can grab this descrption and add it to the meta descrption tag in your posts HTML header.

Can Google read text in scroll box.
I think the general rule is, if you can read it in the "view source" then google can read it. But I agree with Damien scrollbars remind me of 90s web design ( remember the <marquee>tag_)_</marquee>

Linking Back to the Same Page
I don't see any reason why you would do this unless you are trying to manipulate the search engines. I would expect that Google and Bing would eventually find a way to ignore these links if they haven't done so already.

Expanding into different territories
Dylan, Building up depth of unique quality localized content, combined with links and citations from sites that themselves are devoted to each location / area pointing to that localized content is vital. How much you'll need depends on the competition in each local market. Some might be easier to break into than others. It's also easier to go after regions as opposed to individual cities or towns. So here where I live/work, it's "Bay area" and "San Francisco Bay Area", instead of just San Francisco or just Marin County.

Pop up livechat - annoying or better conversions?
I find it annoying. There's one site that has the prompt asking if you if you want to chat show up in the middle of the page (and need to be dismissed) on every page on the site. I avoid using that site if at all possible. As a user, it's nice to have the option to chat now, but prefer that it not be in my face. I don't have any experience with conversion data, however. The searches I did on the web return data from vendors offering the service, so it's biased, but it may provide some insight for you.

How deep should I go with a directory site?
the past couple years, industry thinking had it that architecture should be as flat as possible. I never held that belief, and all my clients who employed the "2 - 3 layers, 4 at most" policy all sailed through the Panda update. The issue is as much about deep internal linking as it is about topical organization and a major signal about topical relationships is in folder keyword seeding, along with breadcrumb navigation, supported by inbound links pointing to that 2nd and 3rd layer.
